Hey David, I actually settled for the 420 after asking people who had both the 820 and 420. I reason, is I don't have a Dolby Vision compatible TV, or a receiver that would use the analog outputs. So, I felt it was better to just buy what I need to save money, and If I ever get a second TV again, buy a player for that one as well, with the compatible specs. I'm not anti DV, I just have low vision, so I would rather be sure I'd benefit from DV visually before spending the money on it, so that's why I've stuck with HDR10. I can tell SD, from HD, and HDR from SDR, but comparing two HDR standards might be a bit tougher, at least my player does HDR10+, so that's still an upgrade option on a new display. By the way, I own an iPhone 12 Pro Max, and it supports DV, but I think I notice more of a difference in display type over HDR standards. I have a Sony UBP-X700 as well, I got that one a couple years ago, and recently had more freezing and skips, so decided to get the Panasonic, and keep the Sony as a second backup player. It has DV, if I ever get a compatible display. I found your video yesterday about the settings, and turned on the HDR optimizer, and set BD audio mix to off, even though i was still getting atmos with it set to auto. Overall, I've had a very positive experience. FYI: The current TV I have is a Sony XBR-43X800D (2016 model.) Very nice reliable TV with a great picture, and for the most part I've had to stick with smaller TVs due to physical space limitations (hence why I don't own an OLED.)
@DavidSusiloUnscripted
@DavidSusiloUnscripted Жыл бұрын
Dolby Vision, while advantageous, has been overly hyped by the users. It’s good if you have it but not a necessity. This is merely subjective opinion of course. Another thing with DV, there are different standards of DV. DV for commercial cinema vs DV for mobile devices vs DV for TV vs DV for projectors are all different and they are ranging from a great experience to a negligible one. Don’t fret it too much. You’ll be happier too by not minding it too much. :)

Hi David, thank you for this updated video on these Panasonic players. (My set-up is 5.1.2 on a Sony STR-DN1080 AVR). 4) In 'BD - Video Secondary Audio': Auto or Off? And can you explain the difference on this one please. Best regards, Perry
@DavidSusiloUnscripted
@DavidSusiloUnscripted 3 жыл бұрын
1. If you use Auto, usually it handshakes to 4:2:0 (using TV’s own conversion);instead of the 4:4:4 (using Panasonic’s far superior conversion) 2. 25/50p depends whether your display can handle 25/50 natively. Ideally Auto 3. That feature doesnt work properly anyway, auto or off doesn’t make any difference. 4. Set to OFF in order to 100% ensure you always get Atmos/DTS:X whenever it is available.

Having the same chip does not mean the picture quality will be the same. The better the data obtained from the drive, the better the quality will be on both audio and video. Just like because VW Golf and VW Golf R and Audi TT are using the same engine, the performance are not the same. The disc drive from 420/820/9000 are all different. Colours will pop out more on the 9000 and the HDMI audio jitter value is audible on the 420/820 and not audible on the 9000. You WILL be able to see and hear the difference if you do an A/B comparison, but if you don’t A/B it, I don’t think many people can tell the difference.

Hello, David!!! I already subscribed, please, I need to know, please tell me which model has the best sound to play CDs and audio files (lossles, FLAC, aiff, alac, etc) please, in the specifications of both (420 and 820) Panasonic tells us that they both have (the 820) 192-Khz/32-bit 4-Dac and (the 420) 192 khz/32-bit 4-Dac, so they are supposed to have the same audio quality when playing CDs, and any audio file. Hi, David. I'm wondering if you have any advice. I'm considering upgrading to a 55inch 4k oled tv. I'm interested in the Panasonic JZ1000 & the Sony A80J. I've been told that the out of the box filmmaker mode on the Panasonic is basically almost at a level of a calibrated tv. However, I've read that the upscaling of bluray content (1080p) isn't as good as some other tvs such as the Sony. But it is excellent with naitive 4k content. I'm wondering if this upscaling issue would be something I need to be concerned about if I use the Panasonic ub9000 4k player to upscale bluray discs? That way the tv doesn't have to do the upscaling. I have a ps5 and both tvs have vrr mode up to 120hz, so no problem there. I know the sony tv has better sound but I'm not overly concerned as for films and games I'd use my onkyo surround receiver. I am not concerned about Standard definition tv images either. Its bluray and 4k uhd I want the best quality for. Thank you for any advice.
@DavidSusiloUnscripted
@DavidSusiloUnscripted 2 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely correct. The JZ1000 is the most accurate TV out of the box. I personally would rather get that than a Sony. At 55”, the upscaling quality difference vs the Sony is very negligible. If you already use the 9000, you won’t be able to tell the difference unless you are comparing the upscaling using test patterns instead of real-life materials.
@MarkTallen
@MarkTallen 2 жыл бұрын
@@DavidSusiloUnscripted Thanks David. So perhaps the Sony A80j might be the better upscaler for sub 4k content, besting both the Panasonic tv (JZ100) and the Panasonic 4k player (UB9000), but at 55 inch it won't be noticeable. That's good to know and at least I still get the excellent chroma of 4.4.4 from the Panasonic ub9000. As a film fan, the Panasonic jz1000 seems the way to go then.

You make a good point about the "gifting" of review machines, perhaps that 'can' influence some reviewers.
