Whether it was intended for the public or not, I have to say I also respect the designer's no-nonsense response to being pressed about the product's issues, just laid it out exactly how it was.

I don’t understand how you would know our approach was not so diplomatic. I was extremely respectful given what happened. The context is they sold us hundreds of defective products and risked disappointing our customers. We also spent time and resources making a review that we had to scrap. My question was about an uncomfortable topic but it had to be asked. It was asked respectfully. Their answer was fantastic and mature. They did well considering what happened.

@@asmallkitten In hindsight I was out of line here, my bad. Edit: When I said "diplomatically," I meant it more in a negative sense, as in pussyfooting around so as to not offend anyone, as opposed to being very straightforward as you were in this case. I don't think that's a mischaracterization at all now that I think about it, but I didn't realize that the way I put it could mean something very differently entirely. Either way, I obviously don't know the full nature of your correspondence, so I just shouldn't have assumed at all.

The MGC, Aosu and Vin actually appear have different design concepts. The deeper domain of the mech are pretty similar, all have double anchors which is a feature since 2014 Aosu, but the shallow domains nearer the corner heads are where the cubes defer very signifcantly. The Aosu has a Weilong mech where the 2nd layer sticks into the first layer, and from past experience, this seems to be better for corner cutting. The MGC has a similar design concept to multiple cubes from the Yuxin little magic series where the cut lines of a third anchor (or stepped design that Phil pointed out) are visible on the edges and centers but trimmed away from the corners, creating some empty space and a lighter and airer feel. The Vin has an RS3 mech where there is a square tip on the centers, but the corners are hollowed out at the same height at the square tip. The square tip makes the cube more stable, but the reverse corner cutting is not compromised due to that specific part of the corner being hollow and giving nothing for the center to catch on. I personally think this is a super smart way to make the most of reverse corner cutting and avoid the negative consequences of rounding or squaring the pieces too much. I made a full video and a short where I compare the Vin and Aosu more clearly. Dislike the act of self promo but seeing the differences visually is better than that huge wall of text.

I 100% agree that it feels similar to the MGC and it definitely has a lot of the same strengths, but I personally feel the VIN is more flexible and I find myself catching a bit because of that. Regardless though, it’s definitely my backup main now.

My vin cube came pre-lubed. Though it’s not the end of the world, it was less desirable in this case due to there actually being way too much lube so I cleaned it out and re lubed it before using it. It’s a nice cube, I never liked the Mgc and my aosu was starting to destroy itself after 2 years of use so it’s nice to see a new release for 4x4 after a while.

Maybe I got the original version last week but I immediately returned mine in favor of my mgc. Despite tensioning and lube it felt sluggish and didn't feel like it had any magnets the finish was very dull not as shiny as my mgc. If there is a newer improved version I'd be happy to try again

i havent watched the video but im glad you made a review on this cube i got one myself and its very smooth and performs very well, even though it lacks a bit of inner layer corner cutting imo (probably a skill issue in my part though cause i havent tried any other flagship 4x4s) also the unboxing experience is among the best of any 4x4, and when you start turning it makes up for it (except it comes very loose and wet with lube so youre definitely gonna need a screwdriver and something to wipe the lube off the surface)

I use the rs3m v5 and its really good, it requires a bit of setup tho. I recommend loosening the screws by 45/90 degrees since its a bit tight out of the box, also it does need a bit of lube on the pieces and the screws, but after setup it works pretty much perfectly

@gcolombelli8 ай бұрын
What kind of setup have you done to your zhilong? I like carrying it around as it fits in almost any 3x3x3 case, but I have to be very careful with it as it likes to pop from time to time. Gotta carry tweezers with it to put the internal pieces back into place without disassembling the entire thing. 😅 At home I also like to use my Valk 4M, but it's box is just way too big and not very good at keeping the cube safely in place if I throw it in my backpack.
