This is the Best 50's P90 comparison I've seen. I was in the market 6months ago for a P90 for a Grote "Jazz Guitar", and wish the video existed. I ultimately went with the Duncan. Absolutely love it! I went with a LP J.R. 50's wiring, harness. It really gives some additional character to that pickup.

Thanks for the comparison. I am shopping for some p90s to put in a Tele build. Lollar gets my vote between these two.

Definitely sounds like an upgrade to me. Thanks for the info.

Great comparo, thanks! The Lollar gets my vote. To my ears, through my Bose headphones, the Lollars just seem to have more clarity, bite and spank. Would love to have heard this comparison in person. Of course, feel is a huge part for me. I'm curious how different they felt under the fingers.

Hey man, thanks for the well thought out comparison. I’m looking for new pickups for my Casino. The Antiquity has much nicer harmonics and isn’t as harsh to my ears. Did you stick with it? Sounds nice. Thanks again for the video. Well done.

Ended up keeping the antiquity in. I really like it

I have an Epiphone LP Junior. My two choices are SD Antiquity or Lollar P90 50s. I have a 335 Epiphone with Antiquities which I love. But for clarity, I would have to go with Lollar.

go with the Duncan. it's clearer, with better string to string balance and definition; and it doesn't push as hard, which suits your style of playing, since you play with the sensibilities of an acoustic player

I like the Antiquity a little bit more

Fyi, Lollar makes many variations of P90s. Lollar has 50s wind, low, medium and high wind, staples which has 3 takes which is low, medium and high, alnico pole, noiseless DC90. Every brand nowadays produces low to high output P90s. So I think this comparison is supposed to be 7k P90 vs 8k P90 instead of Lollar vs Duncan. If it's gonna be Lollar vs Duncan, to be fair, you should compare with the same output, Lollar has the 8 k output P90.

If you haven't already, check out porter pickups vintage p90s. Best p90s I ever heard. Great video btw

The Duncan sounded more towards a humbucker with it's thickness whereas the Lollar had that clear grittiness.
@denmut10 ай бұрын
How about the hum/noise? Thanks
@boechlerguitarsandrepair10 ай бұрын
Its not a humbucker, so standard 60 cycle hum with dirt, but its tame

To me, the Seymour Duncan sounds like it has a little less output than the Lollar. I think I'd be happy with either of these pickups, though I do prefer a little less output, so I'd probably lean toward the Duncan.

Lollar has a bit more sparkle on the top end. I definitely give it to the lollar

Lollars always sound brittle and harsh too me. I have the SB55. Great guitar but the pickup ain't happening. I just got a ron ellis...have not put it in yet...🤞

I prefer low output P90s because of the clarity. High output P90s kinda become less dynamic with overdrives. The dynamic range narrows.
@criscaires67133 ай бұрын
For me, Duncan the best!!!
@mattrogers19469 ай бұрын
Low wind pickups generally have more clarity, so maybe you should have looked for a guitar that has a pickup with more output...
@boechlerguitarsandrepair9 ай бұрын
Both pickups I found quite clear, the duncan just has a bit less harsh highs and more midrange which is what I liked best. It's true the duncan also broke up a bit easier being a bit higher output.

What i would like is to see 5 of the same brand and type compared. for examp[e 5 different SD anthiquity's compard. i'm sure we are gonna see inconsistant behaviour. if not, then this is a good comaprision, if it is, this is just a lucky gamble. An please tune the guitar properly :):):):)

From what I can hear over YT the Duncan wins, it is fuller, it sounds almost like a Humbucker.

I wouldn't give seymor duncan any money.he sold that co.long ago.since then soo much better has come along. Even lollar has become too precious for me.i love quality but something about this company bothers me...i really dont know what it is.
@rajkomilosevichguera45477 ай бұрын
Lollar wins every time, not sure what was the point. I'd go & start composing & using it, not splitting hairs on video like this one (tho nicely done). All this on net is beyond ridiculous - you're buying & comparing elements of guitars you don't know HOW to USE - ts becoming same as purchasing some plastic dolls, all of it. Nobody shows their music around pickups. Cause they don't have it. Same old exercises for achieving - nothing. Plastic doll.

This process, for me, is about finding your "tool". Once you find an instrument that speaks to you the music can begin. Sometimes it's close, but it needs "something " to get it "there" Instead of needing to find a whole new instrument, sometimes things can be tweaked to taste. I've since used this guitar on a new album I have been working on and I'm pleased with the results. Otherwise I would have likely sold it and continued searching for a guitar that spoke to me.
