Back when Gibson used green pearloid on lp classics, trying to look vintage. Y, l, g, u, it's even ugly backwards too.

I heard they use the yellow inlays to know it's a classic lp

90s and early 2000s classic are awesome. The classics have an interesting history. When they were released in late 89/early 90 they were meant to be above the standards at the time and were almost like proto custom shop. FOr the 1st few years it said Les Paul model on the head stock but by 94 or so it was changed to say Les Paul Classic. They do not all have the snotty inlays. That did not start until 94 or so, but even then it was not consistent. I have a 05 honey burst with piss yellow inlays like this one but also a 2000 that are barely discolored and look great. Up until 2003 they had the ABR-1 bridge but then changed to Nashville style. The necks on the early models were super thin and then became more variable, but all some variant of 60s slim. The ceramics arent for everyone, and if I only had one LP i would not keep these, but since I have several I do like the variation. They are hot for sure. I have some more recent LP standards and an R9 and have to admit that my old classics are the best.

That is one amazing guitar. Hard to find the silver sparkle, lots of gold sparkle around and not many in silver. That is a super cheap price. Congrats! Thanks for sharing!

Taping the tubes was cute but I think you should be able to see which one is the rectifier tube (the different one) and the two should be interchangeable - and if they aren't they should be replaced with a matched pair immediately. Smaller tubes might be confusing though if the texts are worn off.

I own a 94 like this one from new, ebony and gold hardware, no ebony fretboard though, mine is a very nice rosewood.

Chibson. On an actual Gibson, the G isn't that far from the D tuner. Just an opinion that is.

That would be a Murphy Lab Custom Shop Les Paul, which is their version of aging / relic.

Vertical checking can be a sign of water or moisture damage. Most GoldTop checking I have seen is the common horizontal checking.
@boechlerguitarsandrepair5 күн бұрын
I think the original owner said it was from Florida, so it might be a result of the high humidity there. That would account for some of the rust of the screws too but it's definitely not water damaged

My main Gibson Les Paul on stage and in studio, was a 93 standard, I had three translucent green 96 Epi’s as my back ups. yeah Gibson had a slightly fatter neck, Epi’s had a thinner, flatter in the back. OK so there is my comment.😊

I have a ‘56 that has a lot of repairs done and cosmetic issues, but man does it sound great. Lots of people prefer the previous generation because they had scalloped braces in stead of tapered, thinner braces. My experience is that the previous generation sounds a little better until they are strummed hard. They’re muddier under a hard strum than the tapered bracing.

I can’t tell a damn bit of difference in the two clean . Dirty I prefer the original. Audio and tuning too off to tell with accuracy imho . Good effort though
