Right around 8:24 Daniel comments on having to dig in more to get a response from the keys. Not sure if this would make a difference, but something that doesn't get mentioned much is that the Privia has settings to change the weight of the keys from heavier to lighter depending on players preference. Not sure if the other keyboards have the same settings but the presets will definitely make a difference in the action from one to another.

I originally bought the P--125 for my Grandson, but he quit lessons. I use it for a 20 piece big band I play with. I love the action and the weight, I can literally carry it under one arm. One thing to note though, which most people don't think about, at higher volumes it starts to distort and get a bit shrill, and clunky/percussive sounding. I use a QSC 12.2, so top of the line amplification. I don't use a pre-amp, maybe I should, but I have to turn the speakers almost all the way up in order to keep the piano volume down as much as possible.

The Yamaha sounds bright, and they always do, they're great keyboards, but I grew up playing classical on an acoustic, and there's something about the action and the sound and the dynamic live action of the Roland combined that gave it that ever-so-slight edge over the Yamaha. Can't go wrong with any of these 3 for sure, just depends on what you want and your budget.

My same findings after visiting a local shop to decide on a piano. Casio stuff is pretty good, Yamaha is standard middle of the road and the Roland is just that 5-10% better , mainly due to the action.
@stenaldomehilli88094 жыл бұрын
I've not had the chance to try them in person but I agree with your rendition. To me though Roland wins in sounds too, especially in the piano department. It's steady from high to low and it does provide that quasi metallic taste that a few Steinways, especially the newer models have. Yamaha doesn't quite sound like a CF S III, -they sampled P 125 from it). Plus there's a certain sharpness to its tone that makes it a little bit unpleasant, for my eaars at least. Then, when you play chromatically in the low end you can really hear its inability to sound like the real thing. I do know that there are few digital pianos that replicate an acoustic well even in the high end (god bless Nord), but overall in this price range Roland does slightly better. All the best! .

I'd love to see a blindfold challenge of the best 88 key MIDI controller keyboards, i.e. weighted or hammer action. I simply don't need a keyboard with its own sounds, but would like a good key action
@Wourghk5 жыл бұрын
There wouldn't really be a point, since any non-Roland or non-Kawai 88 key hammer / weighted MIDI controller uses Fatars, which are junk. Yamaha don't make simple 88-key MIDI controllers and Roland left that market recently, so your only choice is the Kawai VPC-1. If you're willing to spend a little extra and shop around, you can look into any 88-key stage piano and use it as a MIDI controller. All of them have USB MIDI, some have a couple extra sliders and pots, and they will have better action than any dedicated controller. A couple years back, I wanted the action in the VPC-1 but couldn't get on without a more comprehensive control surface. So I bought an MP-11. Now I want for nothing.

@p3rrypm5 жыл бұрын
Ewen Flint That’s irrelevant! Casio’s older keyboards prior to the PX-S1000 have some of the best action and feel on the market, if you’re used to pianos created before 1980, and they don’t make an acoustic piano. Also, Roland has done some serious work on completely generating the piano sounds from scratch... They’ve done a very good job at this.

I have tried all these pianos myself, and my opinion is that Roland FP30 has the best feel. I found out it is because the FP30 has key escapement, which is a feature you will only find in pianos above $1000. Also, the damper pedal is multi levels, and the piano modeling they use combined with the sampling simulates some kind of sympathetic resonance, it is really good for the money.
@kisha_music2 жыл бұрын
The escapement feature is a bit of a gimmick. And the keys of the FP30 are heavier than most acoustic grands so they might tire your fingers out. Initially i thought heavier is better but after owning a high end Yamaha Clavinova for 5 years and trying out the Roland, I realised it's not the case. I swapped it out for a cheaper P125 and now am much happier with the action. The one and only shortcoming is I can't play more than two repeated notes in quick succession since it has only two sensors so I can't play some Scarlatti and Rachmaninoff pieces authentically. Maybe the new casio px s1100 can do it but I haven't tried it yet. Agreed with the other two points though. Yamaha do sell an FC3A pedal separately that supports half pedal making it much more expensive.

@kisha_music11 ай бұрын
@@coprilettodelnapoli5466if piano playing is your focus, definitely kawai es 120 because of the action. It is even better than the p125 that I own because you can press on the inside of the keys unlike p125 where the inside gets very heavy leading to uneven playing. This is not on your list but I have seen very good things about Casio px 560 action, sounds and features. That would be my TOP recommendation and it costs about the same as the kawai es 120. Top recommendation if you can get your hands on it (the inside of the keys can be played in this one too). Casio px 160 from your list apparently has the same action as the px 560 but I have not personally tried it. I won't recommend the Roland fp10 and the korg b2 because the action feels like logs. They do make great unweighted keyboards. I own a Korg liano and love it to bits.
@sobrcelt5 жыл бұрын
I mean, he surely guessed the Yamaha right away---bright and punchy CFX sample, heavy action. That's how they roll. I really think the P-125 is a big upgrade from the P-115, especially since the price remained the same. I'm really interested in seeing how the new Yamaha P-515 stacks up against the Roland FP-90 and especially, the Kawaii ES-8, particularly as far as the action and response are concerned. I'm surprised you didn't add the new Korg to this mix. I think it costs about the same as the P-125 and has the Kronos keyboard action...
@ItsPhilH5 жыл бұрын
sobrcelt Just for clarity’s sake, the P-125 has a sample of the Yamaha CFIIIS (known as “Pure CF”) - whereas the P-515 has the CFX sample which is the current flagship and comes equipped with binaural sampling. The P-515 is essentially a portable mid range Clavinova (wooden keys with escapement) whereas the P-125 is a portable version of the previous Arius models.

Where's the Kawai ES-110?

agreed, the only one who could beat them all. especially for the keyboard action and the great pedal. when it comes to sounds, that's totally down to taste. I prefer VSTis xD

Nice, was thinking of getting a digital piano, the roland was the only one to make me feel something, very very nice sounding samples, weirdly did not like the shouty character of the Yamaha...

I'm upgrading from a $150 keyboard I've had for years, so I can't tell the difference between these three 😂
