I went to guitar shop yesterday, played this suspicious brand guitar called alvarez, beautiful looks, just smooth sexy sound, nice earthy and warm tone. One of the most underrated guitar brands.

I've owned one for years. They used to have duds, so quality was hit or miss. Mine was a great find and beautiful to look at. I hear the quality has really improved and it's one of the best bargains out there. Enjoy!

Love these! So punchy, yet they cut through a mix. I have mixed a Yairi, and it needed next to no EQ. The amazing thing is that when the band comes in, most guitars kinda turn in to just a high end, clicky, ticky, changy sound, IF you can still hear it. These things still sound like a wooden instrument. You will not be sad to spend your money on one. Even the less expensive ones sound great. Live, mic'd, or in a mix, they are totally there. If you think Taylors are just the best things ever....well, they may not be for you. If you enjoy, well, tone....check these out.

My favorite guitar I own is a 1978 Alvarez Yairi My dad bought new in 78'. He gave it to me when I was young and I still have it. I learned how to play on that guitar. I still play it everyday. It sits beside my cpu and I learn and write parts on it every day. GREAT GUITARS.

Kudos for finally carrying Alvarez guitars. Hopefully this will give them a little more widespread public awareness and cred. I own 3 myself - an AD70 dread, an ap70 parlor and the ABT60E baritone. As you can hopefully now tell, really amazing quality guitars for the price. Add to the fact that they all dispose of my least liked guitar feature - top fret markers!! That single 12th fret design is just so elegant. If you're thinking about spending 8 to 1200 on a guitar, try to find these to try out first. You will be very pleasantly surprised. And brilliant to have all the clips of Pete and Chris to demo them!! So nice...

Loved this video. Have been playing the guitar for the greatest part of my life but never really learned much about the specifics of how the guitars' construction affects their tone... these guys certainly seem to have their stuff together. Also, holy man, the baritone sounds amazing! Didn't know Alvarez before (guess they aren't very common here in Brazil), but this really made me want to get my hands on some of these guitars! Will certainly be looking for them in the music shops I go through. Maybe the time is coming for me to arrange that trip to Guildford once and for all... 👹

Great shout out to Alvarez. My dad has an old Alvarez that I grew up listening to. So I picked up an AP70 Parlor guitar last year - what you call a light night couch guitar. It as just 12 frets, but as part of the Artist series unbelievable sound and fit/finish for the price. You also touched that the dreadnaught shape is phasing out. I really like the small size of the parlor but not compromise on sound.

I've had an AD70SC for about 15 years now. I still remember walking into the shop and the guy brought out 3 guitars for me to try that were within my modest budget, the Alvarez being the last. I don't remember what the first 2 were but as soon as I started playing the Alvarez I had to stop and check the price tag cause I was sure the salesman had handed me something far too expensive. Easiest purchase decision of my life.

My first acoustic guitar was an all mahogany Alvarez over 30 yrs ago, which I still have to this day. It is my favorite sounding acoustic and plays like a dream. Only modification made was filing down the bridge to lower the action a tad. Everybody loved playing it because it was so easy to play and still has great resonance and warmth. I play Martin Silk and Steel strings to add a little brightness. Bronze strings sound good at first but muddied the sound from the guitar as they aged which is not the sound I like. I am very picky about strings which I view like tires on a car. You can have a Corvette but without good tires it will not handle like it was designed to do.

I have a 1990 Alverez Yairi DY-77 that I bought new. It has been a wonderful instrument. Absolutly trouble free. I have traveled with it, taken it on camping trips and played it almost daily. I have never had to adjust the truss rod, the action is still low without buzz. I have replaced the first 5 frets from normal wear, but that is it. It just sounds better and better with age. Glad to see Alverez is getting their name out there. There are not a lot of dealers in their network and it is impossible to find a Yairi to play in stock at any walk-in store.

This vid put me over the top on my decision to pick up the MD60BG. I've been looking for a decent all solid dreadnaught for a while but I was always put off by the pricing. I had been considering the Yamaha FGX5 ($1400), but the MD60BG at less than half the price was worth taking a closer look at. My local retail had just gotten the MD60BG in, and it took about 5 seconds to figure out it was what I was looking for. The bass response is authoritative, but not boomy, and the highs are clear and present but not tinny... had a bit of "roundness" to the tone on the high end. Lovely, lively resonance and richness throughout. The neck feels great, and the guitar is gorgeous. What the rep was saying about how they improved techniques for between-coat sanding on the finish was dead on. The woodgrain really shows through without that slight cloudiness you get on many other finishes on similarly priced guitars. The mahogany on the back and sides has a rich, 3 dimensional quality to the grain that really shows through the finish. The "silking" on the top the rep referenced due to the true quarter-cut top woods was there as advertised. I have to commend Alvarez on being able to put out an instrument of this high quality at a price point most of us working folk can justify. Bravo!

My first Acoustic was an Alvarez I bought used in 1978. It was a good sounding, good playing well made guitar I paid $150 for. I played that Alvarez for 30 years then in 2008 I bought my Gibson and gave the Alvarez to a relative. After 30 years it was still a good sounding, good playing guitar and though there is no comparison to my Gibson I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for that Alvarez.

I've had an ARD70 for several years now and the only guitars I've found I could maybe replace it with have costed well over a grand or two. Sadly Alvarez axed it pretty quickly since it's a 12 fret slope shoulder dread which is a very niche style. But god it sounds beautiful and comes to life with nickel brass strings. Its almost identical to the AP70 parlor in terms of construction and everything so I have the two and they make a perfect pair for every type of sound. These guitars are incredibly underrated and I highly highly suggest everyone try some out. They can be a little hit or miss sometimes, and they all need daddario nickel bronze strings to fill out and sparkle.

I had recently gifted a 1976 Alvarez 5056 Tree of Life guitar in near perfect condition to my daughter . My sister had found it at a rummage sale for $175. It had sat in a closet for years. i jumped at the chance to get it from her for work done and it needed some work though. I had a friend of mine adjust the truss rod and action, He also put some new martin marquis lights strings on it. She seems happy!

I own an Alvarez AJ80CE-12 Artist Series Guitar, which is the 12-string jumbo version of the last one you showed here, and I absolutely love it! Years ago, I had a beautiful blue colored Alvarez fusion guitar that was fantastic! However, it got traded in for an electric guitar, and I sure wish I'd just kept it. Picked one up yesterday from my local GC, used for just under $400. Was delivered to my local GC from a different store. I Initially thought that i had a dud with the high E string touching the fret board but once the strings got some tension on them the guitar souinded fine. Not a scratch on it! Wow, nice upgrade from my FG800 Yammie which was my first acoustic (coming from a classic nylon guitar) Wow this Alvie is something else! Loud bright sound, very nice shall we say separation of sound! It must be the whole wood case that makes it so bright and articulated. It is also easier to play than my yammie. Barre cords and cord changes just a lot smoother. It seems to have a lower action but unlike my yammie no fret buzz. It'sa beautiful looker also. Looks and feels like an upscale instrument. I tried a few other guitars in the store including a S6 Seagull and a mahogany D10 road series. This one beat both! Overall a great purchase, i am pretty buzzed about it!

I picked up and played an AGW77 at my local guitar store (Riff City) and really, really liked it. Unfortunately, when I came back two days later to get it, someone had already taken it home. Very nice guitar. Comfortable to play, well-made, good volume, and nice tone. The only guitars in that price range I liked as much were the Canadian-built "Art & Lutherie" guitars. For the sub-$500 market, both brands are really good.

The first thing I noticed about these more affordable Alvarez models is that they feature a sort of "fake Alvarez" bridge. That part of the design seems crucial to the construction of their high end guitars. When you look at an expensive Alvarez Yairi, you'll see that the bridge saddle sits in an element that's completely separate from the part that has the bridge pins. There’s an ebony inlay on the top, flush with the surface, and the pins sit directly in that inlay. The idea behind this design, if I understand it correctly, is to have a steeper angle of the strings after they run across the bridge saddle (which would increase the downward pressure and create more vibration), and to minimize the forward pull the strings exercise on the bridge unit. The one-piece bridge design in these cheaper guitars gives up on those advantages. I don't know how these would sound with a "correct" Yairi bridge, but I don't understand why they'd sacrifice the most obvious characteristic that sets their guitars apart from others. Is it that much cheaper to make a "faux-Yairi" bridge?

I've owned several Alvarez guitars over the last 4 decades, and still own 3 of them. IMHO, they are the best sounding guitars for way less the money. I have 2 more that I'm going to purchase in 2023: the MD60EBG, and the ADE90CEAR Artist Elite. Maybe one day I can afford the Yairi DYM60HD, but in the mean time, all these other Alvarez models stand strong over much more expensive Martins, Taylors, Yamahas, etc. I know...because I own those, too...

I own 2 Alvarez guitars. One is a Grand Auditorium, the other is a mini jumbo. Both are outstanding. I set out to prove to myself that I could find an acoustic guitar that is every bit as good as a Taylor or Martin, but not spend that kind of money. BINGO - I was right. I went to a few music shops and tried many brands and Alvarez blew me away. Then, I almost bought a mini Taylor or Martin because I work at a music store and get a big discount. But, I found the Alvarez mini jumbo on musiciansfriend's website as an "open box" option and went for it. Holy crap. It's a wonderful little guitar.

Very good video describing the differences between models by the Alvarez rep. I have a 40 year old Yairi that is still the nicest guitar I've ever played. I really did not like the jam session at all. I really wanted to hear the individual guitars to see the subtle tone differences, which was impossible with two guitars going, so I really question that decision. Also the lead player wasn't playing anything interesting, just randomly meandering in a very boring, predictable fashion. Perhaps another video where we could actually hear the differences between models, played by someone with the goal of accentuating the guitar tones would be welcomed. Overall though interesting video.

I've had an AP710 parlour for a few years old now, and I really love it, no parlour guitars in the range any more?. I guess the blues guitars looked the closest, are they the official replacement?

I have an AP66 (all mahogany 12-fret) parlor and a Delta 610 (large parlor) from Guitar Center. GC adds the "1" to the same series of guitars. The 710 you have is still available as a 70 from other vendors. I was now looking for the AJ810 and only directed to GC website until I remembered to check out AJ80.

I've seen Alvarez around the shops here in Utah and they have been great every time I have picked them up. Yet to pull the trigger. Not sure why. This might have talked me into one.

Just to let everyone know all Alvarez and Yairi guitars with the M designation in the model number indicates a solid wood build . if you want solid wood you will have to get that . I have the MD60 and MD350 and a DYM94 they are solid ,and I had an AD 70 . it was laminate back and sides . the AD70 was a great guitar but I was looking to go up the range a little . more money more guitar . and the Alvarez connection is that Mr . Kazou Yairi had the classical guitars built by a Spanish guitar company named Alvarez . I don't know if that company still exists , but that's the history of how the Alvarez name became a part of his company . he kept the name all this time to give different models . and if you buy a YAIRI you will see the astounding differences . the guys in Japan just simply touch wood in a completely different way . they are very inspiring .

I have a 48 year old Alvarez 12string use XS 10s on it and love it and I own a3 year old Artist series grand auditorium all Acacia Famosa. Both guitars are amazing give me the sound I want. I had a $4,000.00 Martin that started to come apart after 2 years and in that same period the fish an electronics was worked on 3 times and replaced 2 times and was ready to replace when I got rid of it. I also own a 38 year old Takamine solid mahogany. And it and my 12 look like the day I bought them. So I tell everyone to at least give Alvarez a try as dollar to dollar they are hard to beat. I use XS strings on my Takamine 13ns and my grand 12 s . The XS seem to sound better on dark body guitars and Xts sound better on light top guitars. Thank you for an amazing guitar they play and sound great. Need a AG 70 BG to add to my collection. 🤠🎤🎸👍🏼

I had an alvarez 12 string , found it pawn shop, repawned it and lost it,I regret it, the sound was beautiful, the action was perfect, why! I was not thinking, I also had yari at one time, it was old and beat up but it worked good, now I got a classic alvarez from maybe the 70's model 5011 it says hand made, found it at flea market in st Louise ms. The bridge had problem, little gorilla glue fixed it sounds awesome I also have alvarez regent old beat up but I can count on it,

I'm looking for a vintage sounding all solid dreadnought around this price, would this be a good fit? I'm not keen on modern bright sounding guitars and I couldn't really tell from the demo's what it truly sounded like

I own an Alvarez Grand Auditorium and the sound is scooped. Heavy bass and treble with lowered mids. The sound is incredibly rich and deep without being muddy.

My 1977 alvarez 5022 is amazing. It laminate, but has the loudest overtones I've ever heard. sounds equal to most martins/taylors.

Great to see a major UK dealer taking Alvarez seriously. They make guitars that are great quality at the pricepoint: I have one myself. Unfortunately the guest/rep was a bit low-key ... might be worth doing another video on these.

Bought an Alvarez 6 string uke. Tuned A to A. Amazing uke very loud, for a uke, but nice sound. It is a baritone so I tuned like a baritone uke but it’s sound much better A to A. Have other guitars but this 6 string uke an awful lot of fun. If Alvarez made an affordable Archtop I would buy it.

Bought a Alvarez YARI in early 80s for 600. 00 1/in a 100,00! Can’t bear to tell The Rest Of The Story. It’s like that Girl you Loved and you didn’t hang on to her. You never get it out of your head. I guess it’s best described as “The One That got Away”. I think there’s a tear forming in my eye. Yep that’s what it is. Still HURTS.

The AG60CEAR I ordered got delivered today. Wow! I mostly use acoustic for a workout, but wanted a good quality one. I definitely got it in this guitar. I played an AF and loved the neck, but wanted something a little more advanced, solid top etc, so i ordered one and prayed the neck would be the same. It was and more as the Fretboard seems a bit wider, but that's what I was hoping for beyond just not getting a chunky neck. Amazing sound, look and feel. This guitar plays and feels more like the Taylors and Martins that are at or over $1000 for a third of the price.
