I have the 175s and I love them too. They are insanely big when you get above 130ish, but if you’re tall and big they are not too bad. My only gripe is the stand. I wish the had a walkthrough stand. It is tough grabbing the higher weight all hunched over. On the plus side I 12.5-175 for $1700. No better value out there if you lift heavy.

I love that for the portability. I bought this model because I’m a truck driver and need something I can just haul out of a compartment and get to work. The stands do not lend themselves to that.

I've had Powerblocks for almost 5 years and they've been amazing, the speed you can adjust is perfect. I honestly am so used to the square shape, and cage style it has never been an issue. Sometimes the square shape actually helps because they don't roll and you can get great range of motion when lifting from the ground. I have the originals which don't have a metal handle and plastic adjuster, amazingly it hasn't degraded at all, the magnet, bungee even have never failed.

Bought a set of Nuobells and a stand last year. LOVE them. They're so fast and easy to change that they've increased how often I work out, because I hated dealing with the hassle of other adjustable dumbbells and don't have space for fixed ones. If they work so well that they make me work out more, that's a big win in my book.

Had Ironmasters for four years. No regrets. Super high weights. Relatively compact. Very tight. Great accessories. Regarding changing the weights: Do not do it like he does. I don't know why he does it that way. Put the dumbbells flat and do both sides at the same time. Easy. I've seen a story of people reclaiming these after their house burned. They are expensive but they are an inheritance for your grandkids.
@TheTW139 ай бұрын
I have them too. Yeah, they're square and have notches on the handles and locking pins for a reason. He loaded them in the slowest and hardest way possible. He really left out how versatile they are also. They have kettlebells, mace, straight, and EZ bars that all work with the plates and locking pins you already have from the dumbbells.
@waynebrissette94598 ай бұрын
@@TheTW13 : I think the whole Ironmaster eco system is what keeps me going back to them. Ironmaster sold me another set of handles so both my wife and I can workout at the same time. That's part of why I am sold on Ironmaster, between the kettlebell, bench, and dumbells I didn't need to go to the gym any more (I was just lucky I had all of these before the pandemic).

I bought Snode AD80s with the magnets last November and I'm generally happy with the purchase. I've done a couple of things to enhance my enjoyment of it. I bought a pair of Mad Spotter pros so I'm able to position these better when I do some heavy presses and make weight adjustments via magnets. When I use the magnets I place them inside the dumbbell plates closest to the handle. The 4-8 magnets has never come off unless it's dropped. I've tried placing it on the outside plate and even on top/bottom but drops tend to damage the paint or scuff up the magnet. Overall I'm thrilled to own these (as well as the filthy-diesel cast iron stand)!

I have the Pepin handles that fit standard plates. Fantastic knurling and compact. Used standard plates are easy to find and cheap. So nice to be able to bounce them off my knees with no bar sticking out! They don’t seem expensive when you start stacking the weight on. Great space savers in my small basement gym.
@Olmekc11 ай бұрын
I bought Ironmasters in October and do not regret it. I think the only way they lose is, as you mentioned, you are supersetting AND need to adjust weights for that specific superset. Otherwise you can do the adjusting during your rest time anyway. Plus you can expand the set and buy other attachments/accessories (weight vest, straight bar, EZ bar, etc.).
@joshgarofalo254411 ай бұрын
I got around this by buying hex dumbbells up to 50lbs (5lb increments), plus IronMaster with the heavy handle kit. Dumbbells start getting big and expensive after 50lbs, so I dodge that. But, I have all of the lighter weights available for supersets or shorter rest periods. Wife also appreciates it. I leave the IronMasters loaded at 55lbs. I use them for everything heavier. The heavy handle kit also makes these feel better as it shortens the handle length. Best of both worlds.

I’ve been doing the same. Just wondering what made u pick nuobells?
@Fluster10 ай бұрын
@@Crabguts I picked it because of the ease of use, compact space and its familiarity to a regular dumbbell. Additionally, because I live in Hong Kong, Nuobells are one of the few options that are easily available to purchase online. I have had them for about a month now and have had no issues whatsoever. It feels good, the quick-changing mechanism is snappy and nice, and it takes up very little space. But, when I shake it or move it, it does make some clanging noises which I am still a bit scared of. I think this is probably normal, but I am still a bit sketched and paranoid about doing exercises like overhead triceps extensions because I am scared of the plates falling. This is probably just me, and it is most likely secure. Other than that’s it’s been perfect. I am happy to answer questions if you have them.

The Ironmaster Dumbbells are the best of the bunch. I bought the 45 lbs set with the Micro Plate Kit. The Ironmaster stand however, is not a quality stand and the PRO stand is expensive. I ordered the H-6979 Height Adjustable Machine Table (24” x 18”) from Uline with the H-6862 Lockable 4” Casters. It’s perfect for storing a set of dumbbells, plates and accessories. The table rolls smoothly and it can handle 500 lbs with the casters or 1500 lbs without the casters. I bought a set of Gorilla Grip silicone mats from Amazon to protect the table and dumbbells from scratches. The setup looks awesome in my gym.

Ironmaster is the only choice for people who are actually strong (80lbs are warmup sets), and who actually use their gear. You will inevitably drop or set down a dumbbell harder than an angel fart, which breaks the Nuobells. What good is ultra fast adjustment when it's sitting in the corner broken?

Couple months of Snode AD80 ownership here. Bought two pairs of platemate donut magnets for them (2.5lb and 5lb sets) so weight increments aren't really an issue. I like mine, but I dont love them. Interesting assessment. I actually had my mind set on getting the Snode AD80 and considered the Ironmasters. You may have just changed my mind. I also think im overvaluing weight change times since I don't even drop/superset as much. Will you still be purchasing the Ironmasters in the future?

@@Dial_J_for_Josh If my AD80s become damaged beyond repair or someone makes me a compelling offer locally, yes I would replace them with Ironmasters. In the near future I'll have expanded my home gym to include a rack and barbell setup so the necessity for larger weight changes will reduce even further. Honestly though, even should something change that keeps me from getting the barbell setup any time soon, the fact that Ironmasters can go significantly higher than Snodes to keep progress going is another strong argument for them.

Quick reminder on TRULAP: Based on very quick research it looks like this is most likely a Chinese company using an original Chinese design, but using Canada as a North American front for their business. The address on their site is a self-storage unit in Calgary, i.e. Sentinel Self Storage, their website is riddled with spelling mistakes, and their ToS is a generic template copied off of the internet. This doesn't mean the dumbbells aren't high quality but it is information worth knowing. EDIT - it looks like they updated their address. It was 7725 112 Ave NW, Calgary, AB T3R 1R8. It's now 135a 250 Aero Link Ne T2E 7X8, Calgary, Canada. It appears to be a logistics company/warehouse but it also appears to have multiple, obviously related business, operating out of that location.

Great in hand feel, great look, slick operation, and the stand is high quality as well. If I were in the market now, I would look at a few options, sure, but these are hard to beat, IMO. I would like a set that goes to 100 pounds, but 80 is fine for accessories, as I do the heavy stuff with barbells. Might just buy a set of regular 100's one of these days. Eisenlink are making some interesting products. They have a dumbbell that's exactly like the Ironmaster, only with slotted plates that you can slide on quicker without taking the pin out.
@plmn9311 ай бұрын
The original Ironmasters were like that. They had a tendency to fall off, which is why Ironmaster changed the design.
@Wally_MD11 ай бұрын
Another one that id recommend you check out for a review are the Eisenlink. They're similar to IronMasters but even quicker changing and cheaper ($500 for the 80 lb set). I really think they have the best design for a loadable style dumbbell.

Based on a tip I read somewhere, I bought two sets of Ironmaster handles without the weights. Then, I bought CAP barbell 1" weights. The 12.5# weights have a diameter slightly bigger than the corner to corner measurement of the handles. Given that they are about 1" in thickness, I can get about 160# on each handle if necessary.

If you are moving some serious weight I think it is hard to beat ironmaster's. Can be slower to change weight but they are rock solid and dropping them isn't a big concern like some of the competition.
@totallynotpaul62116 ай бұрын
I got some "adjustable" dumbbells a friend made for me in the shop. They're basically just short barbells. He made them weigh 10lb (out of a sturdy metal, I assume steel), and got the diameter to be that of a standard barbell. Which means I can just use barbell weights and clips. Sure, not very quick to adjust but only you get used to it, it only takes a minute. I also made a makeshift stand out of some spare wood to hold them and make it easier to adjust the weight.

I bought the Yes4All super cheapos. I’ve had them for five years, and, absent a small amount of rust and chipping, they are positively superb. Not convenient, but for $195 they are well worth the price. Both go up to 100 lbs and have some crazy-ass gnurling on the handles

Love my power block pro elites. Went with them because the design is so simple. They don't have any moving parts or spinning gears etc, so i felt that they would be less likely to break. They also sell expansions to the weight if you start with the 50 lb set, which is what i did. You can buy the additional in 20 lb increments as you progress and find that you need them.

I'm new to home gym stuff and I've just started looking into adjustable dumbbells, so I definitely appreciated the depth of your review, but the way you structured it made things a little bit hard to follow. In general, it would probably work better if you structured each section so that you start by explaining why it's important and what you're looking for/how your judging it, then run through each of the dumbbells in a consistent order, before finally ending with a quick recap and side-by-side graphic, if it's necessary and makes sense. Project Farms Does a good job of this, with their tool reviews, so you might want to check them out and see if there's any part of their style that you like.

I have a set of Bowflex 552s that I bought back in 2003 (They'll be old enough to drink this year!). I have to say, they have been the most reliable piece of gym equipment I've owned. They are pretty beat to hell at this point but they've never broken and I've never had a plate slide out. I do actually hate the way they fit into the base and it's a bit of a frustration point for me that at high weight they get STUCK on the base some times. I'm looking to finally move on but it's been tough to decide what to get next. I wish REP's offering was a little better so I'm leaning towards the Nuobell.
@waltblackadar469011 ай бұрын
I've had the same exact experience with my 552s that are probably 15+ years old. Taking out 50 or 52.5 pounds requires very, very careful reinsertion or they're going to get stuck. But they've been very reliable. I'm probably upgrading to the NUOBELL since I need more weight but my 552s lasted longer than some actual "real" dumbbells. I'll keep both so I can more easily do drop sets and quicker weight changes.

Before considering price my most important consideration is the most weight in the most compact package for movements that finish with the dumbbells coming close together.

MX selects get no love from coop. I got some MX select 55s with a stand off of craigslist and I'm happy with them. The 55lb version is of reasonable compactness and I have a set of Pepin screwlocks for whenever I need heavier. One problem that I had initially with the MX selects was that sometimes the plates would stick together and a loose plate would pull out of the holster. It would stay stuck to the side of the dumbbell and then fall off unexpectedly when you started a movement. Not good... I discovered that if you shuffle the plates around you can find an order where none of them stick together. The thing is though that you now have to place the dumbbells back into their holster the same way every time to make sure that the order of the plates remain unchanged.

Coop is correct about the adder weights on the power blocks making curling feel a little strange . You can curl by turning them side ways and it helps a lot . I also own and highly recommend the New Commercial pro 100 Power blocks . They don’t have the adder weights and feel so much more natural when curling because of it . Much more balanced . Love Plower-blocks.

I bought the Trulaps on January 27 and then 2 days later I upgraded and got the extra weight. Waiting for those to come in. I've always had the BowFlex ones but I wanted to try something that was slightly less bulky, less plastic, and had heavier weights for longevity. The BowFlex ones are solid, excited to try the Trulaps. Hopefully Trulap gets the rack for the heavy ones back in stock so I can buy that too. Also considering their bench. I have the thick Rogue bench and honestly don't use it all that often.

I have a bit of nuobell drop experience. Technically mine aren't branded nuobell but I am pretty sure they come from the same factory. I was doing goblet squats with one and, like the idiot I am, I thought it would be safe to leave it vertical on a flat bench for a second. The foam of the bench took a few seconds to compress at which point it fell on to a wooden floor. The mechanism inside broke, multiple plastic dovetails broke. The retailer shrugged and said they don't sell replacement parts nor single dumbbell replacements. Someone else ended up selling their dumbbells as singles so I bought one. The mechanism in the new one eventually seized and I could not change it. I took it apart and what it appears to be is actually a little plastic piece about the size of a thumbnail. I shaved a bit of that plastic off and it worked again. A while after that one seems to be getting ready to seize again. The other dumbbell has always been very smooth in adjusting it.

Trying to apply this buying advice in Europe (Germany) is so difficult as pricing is all over the place over here. Some listed as "most affordable" in the video sell for 400€+, even the Bowflex SelectTech 552. There's a local Powerblock 2.4 Sport version were the pair sells for ~170€. But those only go up to 24 pounds and I'm not really sold on the shape of the blocks/balance, tho I also don't want to spend like 400€ on a pair of dumbbells.

First of all, love the channel. So I've had Bowflex 1090s forever now (over 15 years). Maybe the quality of the more recently produced has worsened over time, but man these have been a solid investment at $600 when I bought them. Not sure why you didn't mention those with the 552s (due to increased wt range). They also have good microloadability. Can do 2.5 lb increments, although admittedly, it then is a tad lopsided but not too big of a deal. Anyway. Thats my first comment for you. Keep it up! Would love to see more leg extension/leg curl and leg press/hack squat reviews.

I have an Ironmaster 75lb adjustable dumbbells with the 120lb add-on kit. Going from =80lbs is annoying due to putting the 22.5lb add-ons nearest to the handle. I've beening thinking about buying another pair of 75lb adjustables, so I can keep one setup for +80lbs. It drives me nuts when adjustable dumbbells giggle around in my hands, which would steer me away from most of the other sets including "Reppin". I love how solid the Ironmasters feel in your hand. They feel like a solid dumbbell. The Ironmaster handle is decent, but I do wish there was a premium "Coop Approved" handle option for them! I also have a Core Fitness 5-50lbs adjustable set I purchased during the Covid lottery Era that gets a lot of use too.
