I actually just went to their office in Los Angeles and picked up a set of three. Very excited to give them a try as I am shooting a small doc overseas in a couple of weeks and wanted to experiment. I think the new lens that they have coming is an 85 rather than a 35 as they were speaking about it being available already. Anyway, great video and excited to own a set of these alongside of some more vintage spherical lenses I own

Hey, I have these on preorder. Wondering if you had to do any shimming on the lenses? Footage looks amazing and I love the character out of these. Also is most of the footage 3:2 and de squeezed? I'm on the Lumix s5iix and curious how it'll match up. Thanks!
@TheFilmGuyOfficial8 ай бұрын
We have a whole section in the video talking about shimming. I encourage you to watch it! I would say most of our footage is 16:9 But we have some 3:2 shots in there also! Mostly because the majority of cameras we have access to don’t shoot 3:2 Plus there is less cropping involving.

amazing video. it is a bit unusual to have only one focal length for s35, but I guess they will add some more. I think I still prefer Laowa Nanomorph lenses tho. How would you compare them?
@TheFilmGuyOfficial7 ай бұрын
I’m not actually sure that’s what they’re going to do. I think it’s more that they think a lot of people will use these specifically on S35 cameras to avoid the strong edges. For them the 35mm makes sense.
@user-2fkheS6COV1UKE68 ай бұрын
Today I got my 65mm Amber and I was surprised how sharp it is on T2.8, I easily can get image in focus on the RED V-Raptor VV. Probably latest instances of this lenses have better sharpness by default from manufacture and do not required shimming. But they definitely softer then DZOFILM Vespid for example.
@ShaneVanLitz8 ай бұрын
Could be, but across our two sets some needed shimming and others didnt. I'd still take them to a lens projector for peace of mind personally.

@TheFilmGuyOfficial5 ай бұрын
@@bommelsstuff1109 hey we do get them occasionally most lens manufacturers use a coding these days to reduce CA and oversensitive flaring which tends to make things go green. I assume that’s going on here. That being said in the shot you are referencing we didn’t use an an ND filter! Which can also cause the green flaring depending on the brand

I have the Great Joy 50mm, but your opening montage persuaded me I need at least the 35mm Remus for my BMPCC6k Pro. The one thing that puts me off is the shimming: I'm just a guy at home with no lens projector and some sample footage I have seen elsewhere looked really very bad-like one of those cheap plastic lomo lenses.
@ShaneVanLitz7 ай бұрын
Thanks! You can use the video tutorials Blazar have to shim without a projector, but it's still our opinion that you try find a rental house or similar where you can use a lens projector to check calibration. It's so much easier and nothing is better than being sure your lenses are operating at their best!

Hey there :) Thank's a lot for your videos! You also reviewed the Viltrox Epic Anamorphics. After using both, which set do you prefer?
@TheFilmGuyOfficial7 ай бұрын
You are very welcome! Honestly, it’s very much the Blazars! The viltrox lenses are sharper! But they are also very clean looking and don’t have a lot of anamorphic character! They are better for people who just want the resolution more than the look .

1. Can you combine speed booster with a variable adapter? 2. For example the Mophage Poco Variable ND adaptor with Metabones Cine speed booster on a Red Komodo-X? I would really appreciate any evidence based answer you can give.
@TheFilmGuyOfficial3 ай бұрын
@@pixsturefilms no sorry! These adapters rely on the distance between the sensor and the lens to be exact you wouldn’t have enough space for both
@ShaneVanLitz3 ай бұрын
100% no. Unfortunatly there are no adaptors that mount like you describe and if you could make it happen it would create a macro extention tube effect where you'd only be able to focus close up. Also macro tubes like that are not compatible with anamorphic lenses because flange distance (space from the rear of the lens to the camera sensor) is super important in getting sharp images with anamorphic. It'd be completely unusable. If you want a speedbooster you need internal camera nd or front filtration from screw on nds or a clamp on mattebox.
