That long stem (the valve) sticking off the stove looks like its begging to be broken off, especially in a soft case.

My thoughts as well, and same thought for a MSR stove config. ~ And here iyam, why here is my 20 year old(perfect condition) Peak1 Apex (Coleman) made their pump assembly of some type of plastic/cracked for no reason where braided meets the plastic. waaaa! ~ Wishin' Coleman would have camp up with a metal solution. ~ ~ But as we know.. If wishes were horses, beggers would ride.

Love this stove... Demonstration... have my doubts: you light the stove with the regulator on your opposite site (for filming reasons I suppose) that way your face is above or to close to the burner. Never do that.

Now you can replace the flame spreader with a multi hole (3D metal printed?) silencer cap that's good for simmering as well. Got the stove and will get the "silencer" too. Simply the best. Built like a tank. Very clever and easy design.

It's compact cone design is maximally efficient at melting snow in cold windy conditions. It's essentially a mountaineering stove like the Svea 123. People complain about it's fuel consumption but it's actually more efficient than the MSR in wind.

Greetings from the UK Eugene! A great demonstration of another lovely stove. I've only used the Polaris Optifuel once, but swear by my Primus Omnifuel for most of my outdoor cooking and have even used it at home on more than one occasion. These stoves are virtually bombproof! What I feel the Primus stoves have over the Polaris and MSR competitors is the fact that they have a built in converter for LP gas canisters but it's all apples and pears. For instance, I like the self cleaning needle that's present in the MSR stoves, whereas the Primus stove jets have to be cleaned manually - still no big deal! Your Polaris has a great system for cleaning the jets! The pump also looks strong and sturdy, much like the ergopump for the Primus stoves. The MSR pumps are primarily plastic based and that isn't a great comfort to me. I am Welsh and Wales is one of the countries of the UK, where you can really put a multifuel stove through its paces. Wales is a hilly and mountainous country where we get all kinds of weathers. Scotland is very similar, whereas England just a few miles from where I live, tends to just piss it down with rain all the time. I've always been mighty jealous of you good American folks to be able to live in such an amazing country with every type of terrain imaginable. From mountains to great lakes, to huge woodlands and forests - an adventurers dream come true! My dream is to trek the Appalachian Trail with my Primus... ..Ahh, maybe one day! Great video again mate and I may just bite the bullet and purchase the Polaris Optifuel. Chris 🖒.

White gas has 8% fewer BTU per unit than Kerosene. White gas is cleaner and very volatile, . Kerosene has 8% more BTU per unit than White gas is less volatile, but smells and is oily feel to fingers. Kerosene has twice the number of BTU than Alcohol. Another point of reference is the old brass Optimus 00 weighs the same as the Optimus Nova. and packs smaller. and has the same output, Both to pressurize and need priming. and heating the tower. On the Optimus 00 the tower screws directly to the top of the brass fuel tank and burns at full flam for an hour. My other Go To stove is the Svea 123 which tank the tower and the wind screen weigh in at 1.28 lb or 532g and require no setting up which is great at the end of the long day on the trail or a bike. All the white gas and Kerosene ( and auto fuel in most countries) pressurized stoves work better at altitude and temps around minus 20-30 than canister burners. I never cook for two hours so I never need two hours of fuel in my tank. Of course, for maximum output on any stove requires cooking out of the wind and a wind screen. Thanks for the Demo. Optimus has been making powerful stoves for well over 100 years using the same basic physics.. I have five or six variation of Optimus stoves in a variety of sizes for different types of trips. The Eskimo's have been using Optimus stoves dating back 120 years.

Great video! I love white gas stoves! Most folks use canisters. But me I prefer white gas. I have an old Bruton Optimus stove that is built really well. It just oozes quality! Love the stability of white gas stoves in general. I think the older Brunton's are better made than the MSR's. The Nova will simmer down to the strength of a candle, yet boil water in short order. I also have the Crux canister stove. I like it better than any other canister I have used. But I don't like canisters in general. They are very unstable with a pot on top of it, and waste a ton of fuel in windy conditions since you can't use a wind screen.

MSR WIndpro 2 + Primus Ergopump = a relativly quiet stove that can run on canister or liquid fuels WITHOUT changing the jet or any fuel line connections! When I planed the experiment I planned on needing MSR Simmerlite's liquid fuel jet Somehow the stove is able to get a clean blue flame on with both white gas and canister fuel with the same jet! I almost forgot to mention that I was able to add a shaker jet needle to the stove without affecting the fuel to air ratio.

So many choices and variations to consider and my thoughts began with ....What if ? It rains often ? Wood fuel may become a problem especially if windy conditions are added in and high fire season is a factor. Trekking over long distances becomes a different scenario where weight matters and how much you can carry. I travel over water, either by boat, canoe or Kyack which allows for more options unless portaging a lot and then weight matters more. For the hardcore, I recommend a freighter canoe, smaller engine works with more and heavier cargo up to the better part of a ton. Wall tent, chainsaw gas, tools, food supplies and emergency and communication gear all adds up with all the regular provisions. So plan your trip, know where you're going, approximate time you're gone and be sure to leave this information with a map with somebody who can call in the help if things don't go as planned. Different people think and do things differently but safety should always be the high point of a planned trip. Bear repellent may be an option but loud noise maker, flare gun may be more unexpected weight but climbing a tree doesn't always work with black bears and out running any bear is a bad idea. There is a lot to think about and know a gun is heavy, may never be needed but it might be the only thing to save your life so keep the thought close with a gun you're very familiar with knowing how to use it. Have a great time, a safe trip with camera and drone if you can handle the added weight and accessories.

I have that stove . ( literally baught it 3 days ago ) was just looking of how it competests to other styles of this stove, Before that I had a svea 123 r. still love it. I likeit equally when it weighs the pros and cons. my only dislike about the optifuuel is how long the stem the fuel line goes to is. I wish they made it like the nova plus where the valve is on the fuel line close to the fuel tank rather then on the stove. Packing it is a pain with the long stem .

Why?
@seeul8rwaynekerr
@seeul8rwaynekerr 3 жыл бұрын
@@earthstick build quality first and foremost. I've had the predecessor to the polaris and whilst okay their fuel jet is at best a compromise. The omnifuel also has the exact jet you need for every fuel including car diesel. Also that magnetic cleaning needle is a gimmick too far. Optimus lost this battle when they stopped producing the 111c and 11 explorer, both of which are military derived units. Both are vastly superior stoves to this. I've got the extremely rare 11 explorer and that'll even burn pressurised alcohol. In other words optimus is 10 years at least too late to this party.
@earthstick
@earthstick 3 жыл бұрын
@@seeul8rwaynekerr I was looking at MSR, Primus and Optimus. I like the build quality of the Primus but self cleaning needle of the MSR looked useful. The only bug drawback of the Optimus that I could see is the jet (as you describe) but is it possible to get at the jet? If so surely someone must make replacement ones that are optimal for the fuel. Then I saw the Soto and that has great features as well. But is there any reason to change from my Coleman 533 apart from weight?
@seeul8rwaynekerr
@seeul8rwaynekerr 3 жыл бұрын
@@earthstick the polaris is a disappointment because they haven't added a specific jet for the lpg based fuels. I'm sure optimus could produce a specific jet, but whether they've bothered or not is the question. By not doing so you sacrifice fuel efficiency and flame temperatures. Millilitres per dinner etc etc and boil times etc etc. Your Coleman will do you fine for gasoline/petrol, they are known to furr up their vaporiser lines, but if its still working fine then stick with it. I got mine specifically for diesel as that's what most cars here in the UK use. The omnifuel does have the widest cut of available fuels of all the stoves.

Firebox Stove has some nice Hard Anodized Aluminum pans. ~ ...yet to use to date, but the 8" kit seems nice(there's a handle option for one of the pans in kit) Although it's recommended to season them, I'm not sure one has to, as there are hard ano cookware out there for the home. Which can't be seasoned due to wooden/plastic handled. ~ Seems the Hard Anodized is a type of protection from Alu. (research is always key) ...like some say there's two standards of titanium. (1 and 2?) ~~ While ima twaddling here, there are different grades of stainless as well. Some are an alloy(still magnetic) vs stainless steel(not magnetic) ...My Zebra Billy pot is near a work of art (lol, oh no!, soot?) is slightly magnetic while the missuses pricey chicken fryer(just tested it) is not magnetic...but recommended temp limit at 400°..was it?..400/450 for sure. ~ blah blah...as a chem operator for forty years, I'm prolly the biggest fan of stainless steel on the planet, being I've had to clean A to Z equipment one could live in, so messed up beyond belief and...."wow, nice job Bri, we could eat off that". My pack is getting heavy, so I'm limiting how much stainless(alloy or not) I pack. There is titanium(TI): after retirement/never had a canteen..lol, canteen for 150.00, 750ml Toaks cup/bailed 35.00 er so. What baby wants baby gets. (-: Not all TI-ware is crazy over priced if care not to squish for lifetime vs cheapo aluminum which bugs me of toxic possible/stainless weight. 150.00 for a canteen was, but I liked the Keith/Heavy Cover kit. eesh! I babbled on too long again. But before I go Atlas: Them folks at ROG did me well six months back.. ~ They put out a video where the guy said "we'll do custom leather work per request too". I was in the market for a wooden handled hatchet holster and theirs looked of quality leather/riveting/color, and they modified a stock item for me. Woot! Nice stuff! (once they figured out what the heck I was talking about) lol, I added reason for the mod, instead of only what I wanted.)

size matters when packing for a bike, kayak or back pack trip. That is the reason I have stuck with the old style Optimus stoves, The stove and parts fit in the pots.

Hi! could you please explain what type of adapter is needed for gas canisters? I saw videos of people connecting canisters right away without any additions. Thanks a lot in advance!

Realy want to buy this but the regulator with pipe is to long to fit in pots or even in regular paniers. They should do it shorter. Would be a winner.

I thought the connector on the end of the fuel line would connect to a canister or the pump... Isn't this Polaris universal fit...?

Have you had problems with leakage from the fuel connector (the big black ring where you screw on the fuel cable)

Looks like a much better stove than an msr. It's just as loud though.

Would you say the Polaris is worth the price over the Nova? From what I can find, the main difference is that the Polaris can burn Iso fuel and the Nova can't. Are there any other differences, or am I missing anything?

Does the pump act as a sealed cap, so you don’t have to keep removing it to put the cap back on, every time you cook?

I absolutely love this stove and all others in this Class but I live in Canada where anything at a reasonable price seems to Quadruple in costs once at our Border. I don't actually Backpack due to health reasons but go to a Beach in Ontario close to our Quebec border and love it. I just now bought a tiny "Chinese" stove on eBay for $5.50 and hope it does the job of my Butane stove which (for me) has a much safer base for larger Tea Pots of water. it's too bad there aren't bases which fit onto those small cans of fuel which make them much more steady at their base!!

One of its major advantage is that the the cooking ban stay low near the ground which add a safe feeling.

My only concern with this stove is that the metal ‘nalgene’ diameter bottles and cups barely sit safely on the legs, needing some kind of mesh plate as a stove top The Primus omnilite Ti solves this specific problem but seems weaker in other areas, like needing much more maintenance, quality issues with the pump and doesn’t seem to have the ability of inverting the canister for colder weather, but it is still equivalently a multi fuel stove and is considerably lighter, but a trangia would be better for short term ‘bug out bag’ use anyway if only needing a small amount of fuel, but then once home, moving by vehicle or at an emergency relocation point the Optimus Polaris takes the cake and then combined with the ‘get home’ trangia alcohol/esbit/wood stove gives complete adaptability for every type of fuel that may become available, plus an alcohol/wood stove windscreen could be used with the Polaris too as a complete system
