That Vitus is nice :) I have upgraded my gravelbike to allroad. Swopped one by 40 chainring- 11-42 cassette gear with two by, 30-46 chainrings, 11-36 cassette. Heavy enough geared for ca 50 km/h slightly descending and light enough for 5 km/h in the climbs. With 45 mm tyres and 30 mm damper I survive holes in the road, and goes reasonably fast both on gravel and tarmac, although somewhat slower than my racebike with 25mm tubular tyres. My allroad gravelbike do have an affair with lycra :)

Argon 18 Krypton Pro. Got it for 6+ day mountain climbing trips (which it excels at), days out doing adventures where can include gravel light if it looks interesting and multi-day bike packing light trips. Nothing but praise for it. Got the SRAM gears as it has a wider range, particularly at the low end, than the factory Shimano gears which only go up to 30 on the rear and are 52/36 on the front (which seems ridiculous for an all-road bike. Also SRAM gives slightly more wheel clearance.

Just get a cyclocross frameset. Build it up as a roadbike or a gravelbike whatever you fancy. 1x/2x both works. Skinny or wide tires. It can do it all. They’re the actual “allroad” race bikes
@ketle369Ай бұрын
Not the same.
@bikdavАй бұрын
Cyclocross and “traditional” road bikes aren’t exactly the same. But, what you said is what I did almost ten years ago with a Redline Conquest cyclocross. It did the job very well.
@notime2stopАй бұрын
you have not understand the topic. Allroadbikes are complete different to CX framesets. Inform yourself.
@bikdavАй бұрын
@@notime2stop That's a good point. Traditional cyclocross bikes are a "unique breed." Back then, before the modern gravel bike and "all-road" bike came around, the traditional cyclocross bike was pretty much the only option. Although, one thing that I witnessed (and did) back in those days was take an old touring bike or hybrid and use it as a makeshift cyclocross or gravel bike. Times have changed since then.
@SyLens1Ай бұрын
@ u can consider a xc mtb an allroad too then. The concept of an “allroad” frame is just another marketing scheme to sell more bikes. While cyclocross frames have been out there for so long. Allroad bikes are often more endurance focused and heavy. While an cyclocross frame is light and race focused giving you a more aggressive position.

Battaglin Portofino G. Steel is real and this one is a work of art. With Campagnolo Super Record EPS 12 speed and Bora wheels and 30mm tires, mine weighs in at 8.6 kg and with carbon Levante gravel wheels and 39mm Ultradynamico tires, it’s 9.1 kg. It has dropped seatstays and decent aerodynamics for a steel bike and I don’t have problems keeping up with my mates.

I've always wanted a Giant Defy for road and light gravel. What does 'The geometry is suited more to the road' actually mean?
@roadccАй бұрын
Compared to the vitus venon for example it has a steeper head tube angle, shorter wheelbase and lower stack height, this makes it more aggressive: more agile on the road but twitchier and less stable on gravel. It is capable on very light gravel but we think it fits more in the endurance road bike category than all road

I’m probably not going to do research elsewhere without an idea of cost. Nice looking bikes, though.

Christ, am I just fucked out of luck if I want something less than $1000? The Specialized appears to be the only bike under $3k, and that's the cheapest in this category? What the hell. How can bicycling be so ludicrously inaccessible in the modern era?
@robertbradley3320Ай бұрын
There are plenty of bikes under 1k in your local classifieds, FB Marketplace, etc.
@squngy0Ай бұрын
This is a video about the BEST all-road bikes, not entry level bikes. You can get an older cyclocross bike for quite cheap and they work very well as all road bikes IMO.
@WhiteVailleАй бұрын
@squngy0 I figured it would at least offer the best in different price brackets, not best with no price ceiling. I have no idea what to look for, as I'm completely new to the modern market. I only know a little about 80s-90s era. What makes an ATB vs road or others, over the last two decades?
@squngy0Ай бұрын
@@WhiteVaille I think best of each price bracket is a great idea, but it is not usual for these sorts of videos. (most youtubers will make separate videos for each bracket) ATB is not a very common term and I am not familiar with it. Googling it, I would have called those bikes "hybrid bikes". Hybrid bikes are flat-bar bikes similar to a hard-tail MTB, but a lot less capable (and cheaper) than a full blown MTB. All-Road bikes (like in this video) are essentially road bikes (with drop-bars and no suspension) they are somewhere in the middle of gravel bikes and race bikes. They are great on the road and do OK on light gravel.
@bam0505Ай бұрын
@@squngy0second this. Just get a used cx bike like a giant tcx or crux. I wouldn’t get a new multi use bike that’s non aero (actually aero, not the “one bike to rule all”) unless it could fit a 50mm+ tire.
@salsalawyerАй бұрын
Trek Domane?
@gaborozorai3714Ай бұрын
Now that even aero bikes can take 32mm tyres what cannot be an allround bike at a little stretch?
@ketle369Ай бұрын
32 mm is no problem on packed dirt roads. Look at the pros. They ride Strada Bianchi on aero bikes. Normal people can do that too. If you come from MTB and are used to the bike skidding a little bit without panicking even 25 mm is doable on hard packed dirt roads.
@squngy0Ай бұрын
There are still quite a few bikes that can't fit 32mm, but you are right. I suspect pretty soon almost all bikes will be able to fit at least 32mm and then all-road will not make much sense as a category.
