A solid video detailing the "dos" and "don't's" of Game Developer Resume writing! I watched carefully, took notes and will by applying them to my Resume restructuring. Hopefully even though I'm an early game developer I can frame myself in the best light possible to work in game development soon!

This is very insightful. My resume is not as good as either of these. I'll make a lot of improvements based on the suggestions of this video and hopefully get more interviews. Thanks Jason!

The only thing that stood out as odd to me about the last was that it seemed to imply 15 years of Unity C# experience, where they really had 15 years of C# experience and 2+ years of Unity (or so it seems based on the specifics of the experience listed)
@midniteoilsoftware2 жыл бұрын
I didn't mean to imply I had 15 years of Unity experience. How would you recommend rewording this? Maybe separate them into 2 lines? • Highly skilled using Unity, expert in C# with 15+ years of experience
@learnMax2 жыл бұрын
@@midniteoilsoftware i’d probably use two sentences
@dtoxicatedcaffe Жыл бұрын
@@midniteoilsoftware You can use something like "A 15 year Veteran in using C# for programming and experienced Unity developer with 2 years of experience". If it has to be in single line... Just a suggestion from my end

I know this is old, but i have a tiny bit of feedback: i would have tried to find (or maybe even just make) a good junior developer resume to showcase at the end alongside or even instead of the senior resume. Because the seniors experience really seems to carry your attention when reading it. I would like to see how to maxmimze having minimum.
@DesignersDelusion Жыл бұрын
100% I agree. Or at least a vid with some tips for junior/entry level candidates on how to build a resume. We need it the most since we don't have the experience to fall back on.

Great video. As a junior dev working solo at a small company I was mostly interested in looking at the skills on these resumes. There seems to be a big gap in learning intermediate and advanced game dev concepts from courses, so your course sounds great. Sadly too much for my pay grade, but great to know its there when I start earning more. Thanks for yet another great video!

@@TheBugB I got pretty lucky tbf. Switched careers by going to uniy. Got a first in my undergrad, distinction in masters, it was still hard finding a job without experience in the industry.

FYI as mentioned in Jason's commentry, Azure is not AWS, Azure is Microsoft, AWS is Amazon - similar but completely differnt services.

This is good info but you straight up doxxed someone D: super careless, very surprising coming from you. Regardless I got a lot of value out of the video, I just hope that person is safe.

i watched another video like this but from another person on Artstation (A Professional 3D Environmental Artist), which he provided a guide to Resumes and CV's. He mentions specifically about identity and how it is good for companies to be able to recognize you if your work stands out to them, which then makes it easier to network and get recommended especially when people see facial familiarity. But after watching this video, i'm suddenly on the fence here. Is it any good use to put my pfp on my resume or is it redundant? Any advice would be appreciated.

Can you do a video for those who are entirely self taught (10 years) and want to apply for a job?

A vid for junior/emerging developers with advice for resume building would be great. It's hard to know what to put on since we don't have the experince to back it up.

I kind of wish I'd gone into the games industry. Got seriously started FAR too late (despite been dabbling half-heartedly on and off for many many years) but also wasted too much of my life in bland corporate IT. At 35 I'm too old to get into the industry. Also arguably too stupid.
@locke8412 Жыл бұрын
i don't see why you would be too old. your experience in IT will be valuable in finding a job. just start learning now and maybe you could eventually switch to gamedev
@rakunn Жыл бұрын
You're not too old. That's just an excuse.

You're not too old. I'm almost a decade older than you and I'm making the career pivot as we speak. (Too stupid I can't speak to, but you're almost certainly smarter than the negative little voice in your head is telling you that you are!)

Very informative! What if I wanted to get into the other side of the game industry? I.e. community management, an office job with the studio, ect? I have a masters in entrepreneurship, but gaming is my absolute passion. I was considering using the last two years of my GI BILL to get a degree in game design, but I figured I'd ask your opinion.
@lemetamax Жыл бұрын
I'm assuming that just like other companies, gaming companies do use Application Tracking System for resumes since there are so many candidates competing for a particular position in that company. Is there a special way to beat the system (without sounding too robotic because you want to take advantage of the the keyword matching system) in order to get a recruiter to read your resume?

Honestly, with the number of templates online, any sentence would feel generic with a [Fill the blank]. Last I heard, cover letters are being deprecated. Been told by an experienced Ubisoft recruiter that they prefer you set a profile website with demos of your work.
