Great review dude! It’s kind of funny that most if the things you didn’t like are things I love about the series as a lifelong Dragon Quest fan. Status effects and Buffs/Debuffs are the biggest! Most JRPGs HAVE status effects and buffs/debuffs; but they either barely do anything, or never work. DQ requires you to buff and use/put up status protections/preventions. The only other game I can think of where this stuff matters as much as it does in DQ games is Final Fantasy 4.

you mean ff2 for the nes?
@pixelbroleeАй бұрын
ff2 can be pretty annoying with it at times. Not like those Courles or whatever though lol

Thanks so much for watching and commenting, dude! Yeah, you make a great point! Most of the time status effects are pretty negligent in other games. I guess that's why this one shook me up so much. That hydra boss, dude. I don't particularly remember 4 giving me issues with status effects though!

No FF4 where slow IS worth using on enemies those Cait Sith death using enemies still EXIST In FF4 starting with the Magnetic cave where the Dark Elf boss is fought and since you can't USE your best weapons/armors their while Dark Elf is still alive its not worth fighting those.

I used the Rousing Ring to help with sleep. I had equipment to resist breath attacks while also using Insulate and Magic Barrier to reduce damage
@pixelbroleeАй бұрын
I actually did exactly the same thing but it didn't prevent it! It DID reduce it though. Man had me on tilt. Even when I won I felt it was just some lucky crits on my part lol To be fair, maybe I'm just not great at dq games so far! I've only beaten 1 2 and 3 now! Thanks for the tips, though! I recognize it takes time to respond in the comments and I appreciate your time ♡

King Hydra is a breeze if you use Monster Wrangler's "Fog of War". He cannot cast shit on you then and you can just mollywhop him into the afterlife.
@pixelbroleeАй бұрын
Dude whatt!?!?!?! I had no idea! Breath doesn't hit either?! Thanks for the tip!!!!
@LrbearclawАй бұрын
@@pixelbrolee He can still do Breath attacks, so if you have someone faster with Isulatle you fire that off first. However, Hydra will most often use spells and fail. (He becomes a "regular" enemy in the post-game dungeon on a couple floors and you even face 1-3 of them per fight.) If you can, equip your team with Fire-resistant gear to help and he just becomes an annoying slog. (Sage's Stone's heal and all item-based spells get around the Fog.) This works well as Zoma uses Fog of War too, so having a Magic-free strategy helps.

I was about to say... I used the rock throw àbility from a few different characters and turned him to mush.

Even on Dracky mode that's NOT needed the POST game King Hydra's wil randomly USE Fog of War anyways.

After seeing you hate buffs/debuffs maybe my recent video game recommendation might not be best for you for a bit after this game xD. Great Review man! Make me wanna drop Metaphor and play this gem.
@pixelbroleeАй бұрын
Thanks so much! Dude, did you have issues in that game with the hydra sort of problem?! If so... hrm. I can't stand that stuff lol give me a freaking chance or some way to better mitigate those issues!
@jonneydb4133Ай бұрын
@ I only had a problem with that stuff and had to strategize with growth charts and put certain equipments in that nulls or buff up the healing or damage outputs. Each boss has a method to beat instead of hit with dps unga bunga lol

thwack can be dealt with dieamends and can be bought so not entirely un-preventable.
@pixelbroleeАй бұрын
This is also true! It'll keep ya busy buying those up to deal with that, but that's a fantastic point! Sharing my frustrations has given me a ton of information from comments! Thanks!
@veghesther320428 күн бұрын
Play on Dracky/can't DIE mode and Thwack will NEVER kill you those same enemies are kind of IMMUNE to being killed by the SAME spell.

I’ve never dipped my toes in the Dragon Quest series. And I have to admit that these 2D-HD Remakes look amazing. They make it a lot more palletable to play the old games. Especially for players that didn’t grow up with the old games and might find the original too crunchy.

I would encourage you to DEFINITELY play the remake if you go to play DQ3. This version makes a lot of quality of life changes AND the graphics are beautiful :) Great stuff if you want to sink 40 hours or so in. If you play this one, though, it's unlikely you'll be able to appreciate the first one or even the 2nd for a while- this one just upped the quality of the series SO much. I love DQ1, but it's mostly for nostalgia and the simplicity of it.

Though you can't DIE on Dracky mode starting with 3x Gadabouts is still going to be BRUTAL after lv 20.
@pixelbrolee26 күн бұрын
Hahaha dude I couldn't imagine. They get some neat abilities, but it doesn't really seem to compare? I didn't play with even 1 gadabout :P
@Ragnarok182Ай бұрын
Surely, you have played the original DQ games. Those status effects have always been a nuscince in the original DQ3. (at least all the times I played them) But it's part of the charm, and it encourages you to adapt a conquer.
@pixelbrolee29 күн бұрын
I did play 1 and 2 before this, actually! I played 1 as a child and beat it as an adult about 15 years ago. 2 I finished about 10 years ago. I remember 2 being freaking AWFUL with death spells near the end, and, after reading your comment, I do remember sleep being BRUTAL in part 1, especially since you only have the 1 party member!
