Good advice thank you. I do what you suggest, and buy the highest quality gold I can find for the lowest possible premium. The one piece to the equation that is actually an unknown is picking a product that will be easy to sell in the future. The best we can do is stick to products that are easy to sell now, but that is no guarantee that they will still be easy to sell at the point where we are looking to convert them back to cash. There are lots of different ways to invest in precious metals. My plan involves accumulating as much Bullion as I can and holding it for the long-haul. There are people who buy and sell gold the way daytraders churn stocks. Constantly buying when it's low and constantly selling when it's high. I accumulate bullion as a protector of wealth not a generator of income. If that works for them great. It isn't how I want to spend my time. Great channel keep up the good work.

You're assuming that the premium instantly evaporates the moment the transaction is completed. This is a false assumption. However, if your only purpose is to accumulate gold for just the metal content and do not care how it looks, or if you expect to be selling it in a financial pinch/liquidity crunch as a savings strategy, then yes, higher premiums are bad. I think this should not be overlooked.
@MidwestCoinHunter4 жыл бұрын
THIS! This gets overlooked all the time. Almost all videos talking about fractional being bad don’t seem to differentiate between preservation of personal wealth and investing for profit. When selling a fractional piece for profit the premium is typically returned (amount depending on who you’re selling too). My first gold purchase and second and third... and 20th were 1 gram bars. Back then I was buying them all day long for $45 each. I paid a premium but these days I could turn around and sell them today for almost double that. The people buying fractional are willing to pay the same premiums I did so I get my money back for that plus a profit on top of it. That’s investing. Fractional is great in my opinion for investing purposes considering there are far fewer people who can afford a full ounce of gold than those who can only afford a smaller fractional piece and because of that there will always be a market for the smaller pieces.

Please allow me to share my POV, I have a slightly different take. Even though I've had a long professional career as an Engineer, I have been transitioning since 2015 to having passive income as an entrepreneur and a professional investor. Today my main source of cash for day-to-day living is investments. Also, I have been a coin collector since I was 6 or 7 years old. Because many of you, influencers (Dragons, International, Bean, BYB, among many others who really set the standards for the community), I transitioned from coin collector to silver coin collector. It was a major personal change to "exchange" my decades-long collection without loss. Silver is a precious metal that behaves like a commodity. You are an investor of silver if you behave like a petrol or cattle investor. Having 1,000 Ozt of Silver in boxes is not an investment. Also, and I know this opinion is not a popular one within the community, the liquidity of 1,000 Ozt of Silver, well there is no liquidity. Use the example of the Ukrainian crisis: it is not Silver (not even Gold) that is making the refugees and other suffering to get through the days. Not even close. To the topic, the right Gold to buy is the cheap one. I travel considerably, I love to access local government minted gold (and silver), and boy places like Vietnam have cheap "fractional" 9999 gold. Also, the right gold to buy is that you want to buy. If one intends to be a small (eBay) level flipper, choices are obvious. You are not a gold investor if you don't have buckets of $100,000 in gold that you move according to market trends. Don't think if something like Ukraine happens close to home Slver/Gold will make you access anything and everything. Far from that. It is unpractical, it is dangerous, it does not add value for those who are ill or starving to death. I am not an Investor of commodities, nor even Gold for that matter. I changed my habits, instead of dumping thousands in OCD stuff like action figures or comics, my Senior years are witnessing my fun acquiring gold. This will be left for the kids, while those 10,000 LPs and CDs (for serious) will likely be a huge nuisance for the family when I leave. I always find deals in gold: I prefer coins, while abroad I get whatever the local country provides if the cost is right. Realistically, my gold will help kids to do something like purchasing a car each. Beyond that, it is not the world we live in today. Cheers

Word of warning. Check your state laws and regs. Some states (florida) require businesses to register sellers who sell things other than coins with the police dept. They also require the shop to hold onto these items for 30 days. So you will not get spot price if you try to sell. Bullion coins with a face value are exempt.
@papiparsons90452 жыл бұрын
One of my sources for stacking is by doing math... I will find out what spot is per gram, then divide it to 14k which most jewelry in the US is. Then go to pawn shops and bid well below spot on gold jewelry (the uglier the better). I've had many shops that are in a slump sell to me. This is especially true if they bought the jewelry when the spot was lower. As they will look at what they paid as well as how long it sat on the shelf. You will end up with ugly jewelry, but you are less likely to lose $ when selling to refineries.

A retail jeweller can put a 300% markup on the price of the gold jewellry they source from a manufacturing jeweller which obviously has added prices for fabrication and overheads. Collectable Gold eg: coins are what you want to be doing: 1. It's sellable to the Gold market 2. It's sellable to the Collector market 3. There's only a few coins that are legal tender - The Queens beast, Britannia etc are legal, exempt from VAT & CGT (UK only). Retailers have to legally accept them in the UK, although obviously the gold content is worth far more than the face vale of the coin. In any case there's no wrong piece of Gold, it can be sent to a refinery and melted down into bars, and thus it's gold, which keeps it's value at worst.

Hi Guys! Real awesome video. This helped me a lot in my `` buying gold strategy ´´. But it leaves me with one question. What about gold nuggets for an investment?

Thank you for the video (I know this is an older one). Personally I like the buffalo and maple leaf but that's me. But it was very good to learn about bars and sovereigns.

Are Mexican 50 pesos a good investment for stacking?
@TheEnneagram4 жыл бұрын
NO: Gold coins are NOT an investment, as surely as stacking is NOT investing. It’s good to know the difference if you’re spending so much time and energy, one of which is irreplaceable. The Mexican Mint is my favorite sovereign producer, and the 50 Peso is my favorite coin, but it is not an investment. Cheers.

I may be mistaken, but I do believe the mexican gold coins were the purest until the krugerrand came out. Thus their popularity with some.

Interesting video, thanks! I'm French and as most French people who buy some gold to protect part of their savings, my choice goes to the 20 Francs gold coin, also referred to as the Napoléon, which comes in 5 different designs. It's not pure gold, only 900 o/ooo but it's an elegant small coin, very popula, the most bought/sold gold coin here. Also, you can expect to sell it above spot if in good condition.It used to have a rather low premium but the price has gone up a lot as of late and I've stopped buying them. I also possess some bullion coins: a Maple Leaf, an American Buffalo, an American Eagle and an Australian nugget, which I all find beautiful. I plan to buy next a double Eagle, a Mexican 50 pesos, a Britannia and an Austrian Philharmonic, but that's when gold is more affordable. I might have to wait... Finally, I also have a bunch of silver coins, 50 and 10 Francs Hercule, which are beautiful, but those also are way too expensive at the moment. So I'm saving until better days, I'm not willing to buy precious metals at any price, that wouldn't make sense.

The gold Francs are very specific to where you live and charge a high premium since they were minted in the previous century
@laurencerivet75214 жыл бұрын
Anton V You're right, it's specific to where you live. Also, it's all about offer and demand actually. In these uncertain times, more people are willing to buy gold. Gold price and in particular premiums follow that trend. Those gold coins were way less expensive just a year ago. One 20 Francs coin was around €269 in Oct 2019, now it's around €319, a €50 rise!! I can tell you because I've been buying them regularly...

One thing with fractional metals is, if shtf you can better barter. Other than that you have taught me something valuable.

Avoid fractional proof coins , I got burned hard on that
@kenkaufman99983 жыл бұрын
Nothing wrong with proof gold fractionals as long as the premium was very small. No one really collects modern gold commeratives, so few are worth much over spot. Gold is Gold. It is all about the premium.

Proof coins are ridiculous prices given it involves the same process for regular coins where the frosting is in reverse.

Regarding the Queens beasts - I was able to get them cheaper than an American gold 1 ounce 0 but you have to buy it when they release. If you try to buy them years later then yea you'll have to pay more.

Interesting. I think the best type of (way to buy) gold to buy is have a bunch of silver and convert to gold when the GSR hits 30-50 to 1 (Or maybe, just maybe, GSR goes under 30-1!!) 😃

For plain money I like your picks, American, Canadian, sovereign. But I like pre33 American but those are more for that you like them, you have to research them, there are a few that can really go up in value but you have the bid ask spread so they are more of a collector item, I've seen a couple , one brasher doubloon, triple in price in 4 months and the one 1933 double eagle sold for 8 mil and sold for 18 mil but he had to hold it a few years. But there's a few you really like the design so they are separate from the bullion,

Actually I have been purchasing "fractional" gold Swiss, French, Italian, and Belgian 20 francs and UK sovereigns at about 3%, not too high a premium for less than one ounce coin. Local coin dealers in Texas purchase these back at spot

Do you pay consumption tax on gold coins in the US? I am in Japan and need to pay the premium + consumption tax / import tax and in the end that is about 2100 USD per ounce...
@joebob77302 жыл бұрын
If you can’t afford at least an ounce of gold at a time just buy silver. Silver besides being absolutely cheaper is also relatively cheaper on a historic basis. On a production basis (from the ground to a retailer) silver is more expensive right now than gold. But they are both fairly close in their markup around 200% retail cost over production with silver having a slightly higher retail markup as it’s more popular for normal people to buy cause it’s cheaper.
@kennethhowell1272 Жыл бұрын
I understand that fractional coins come with higher premiums to get a full ounce. But what if down the line, stackers end up using their gold to buy stuff like food and fuel a full ounce coin worth $1900-2000 would be hard to spend rather than a 1/4 or 1/10 ounce coins. My focus behind buying gold is that "it" will always have value, but we can't say that about paper American currency, and gold and other collectable will replace cash.

Quick question I'm new to this i have a decent amount of silver and looking to get gold but I'm wondering how do you know when a new coin design is coming in? is there somewhere where you can find it or smthg? Also how do you predict which coin will rise in value a lot because of the premium ?
