Generally, horses are loyal and will do as they're asked, even to their detriment, and even destruction. Mules have opinions. Very stubborn ones sometimes. Both of these traits are a double edged sword. If the mission is a "suicide" mission, I'd go with the horse. If it's a difficult, laborious and long mission, requiring extra strength and endurance, the mule is the better choice. A mule is the product of a female mare and a donkey stud. I would like to see a video about the "Henny." A Henny is the product of a donkey mother and a horse father. These days they can be produced by artificial insemination, in the old days they were very rare because for mules, they can restrain the mare and the donkey will mount her, no problem, but it it is exceedingly difficult to get a stallion interested in a female donkey. During the late middle ages, they were produced on a Spanish island on which horse mares were absolutely banned, and horse stallions that had never seen a horse mare would mount female donkeys because they had never been around or ever seen any female horses. The operation was managed by a monastery of monks, and these hennies were highly sought after for their good personalities, lach of stubborness, but much of the strength and of the good properties. Once trained, they would almost never buck, bite, or refuse commands. They were safer for women and children, too.🤔

I love love love these mules are better videos. Please keep them coming. I've been around horses my whole life. I've known people who have been killed. There is a risk in everything but having a wife and kids mules are much safer. They love you more too. These videos have helped me convert some people I'm very confident there's a chance that these videos could save some lives someday.

Thank you so so much! I agree mules are more personable and rational than a lot of horses. Of course there are good horses out there for sure, but mules really are special. We appreciate you watching and sharing our videos! ☺️

My buddy I work for had a mule. We did trail repair the horses we had to corral the mule got to walk around like a pet dog. He was so cool. Absolutely loved camping with that Mule

That final was the gospel truth, I have ridden mules in places I would never ride a horse, in the bad country. A mule will not hurt itself trying to toss you in a panic.

A couple of other things is they have a strong sense of self preservation and are less likely to get into trouble on steep slopes etc. They also have amazing endurance and balance. I'm down to 3 mules now but I have raised many mules When I lived in Idaho and Oregon in the snake River country. The best thing you can do with a mare is to raise mules.

3: Horses often don’t have to have shoes, they can go without shoes. 2: Horses are bigger than mules so much weight can just be put on a big horse. 1: Horses also can be calm and steady and every thing you said, just look at Icelandic horses. They can walk many miles in the toughest places with rocks everywhere.
@MTN_BUILT6 ай бұрын
Yeah, there are some amazing mountain horses out there that are FAR better than my personal mule. And yeah, we have a friend who has a mustang that doesn’t need shoes… our horse defined them though… her feet are more prone to chipping, and you can tell that she gets sore on rocky terrain without them. Same diet, same living situation, same farrier, just different feet 😊

The writer and rider are correct. I rescued horses and I noted the difference. Donkeys made great defenders, yes, never lost an animal to predators. The mules were ace protectors because they were happy to give kids a ride and just went at their own speed. Those same kids learned how to ride on a mule and then trained a horse of their own. They wanted a horse for about 20 minutes. Then they wanted THEIR mule back. The horses were rescues but I had to pay money for a good mule. And hunters loved mules. If they smelled bear they turned around. The horses walked straight between between Mom and Cub. Therefore, when we are in the glades, it was mules all the way around. 😂😂❤❤
@MTN_BUILT4 ай бұрын
Haha that’s awesome that they wanted “their” mule back 😂 We love all equines (hopefully we can end up like you- having horses mules and donkey one day), but it seems like mules are just the perfect mountain animal! 😊🙌🏼

Yikes! I don’t blame you for hating them. I would be real nervous to work with other people’s mules on a regular basis. Our farrier was really hesitant around ours the first several times

@@MTN_BUILT I worked on a small three person trail crew where we had to re-bed long stretches of damaged trail with dirt we would have to get from as far as a quarter of a mile away. We used 'dump boxes' that we built over the winter. The horses had problems with the dirt being dropped at their feet but the mules had no problem with it. Each of the three of us had a string of four mules each that we would form a circuit with and that's all we would do for our eight days out. I loved the work and did it until I went into the Peace Corp.

@@randmayfield5695 wow! What a cool experience! I can’t imagine a job that would be much better than that 😊 I used to work for the Forest Service marking Timber in Eastern Washington, and even that was fun… it was probably way more enjoyable to have your job and work out there with the equines 😊
