I just finished reading the manga. The game between Akagi and Washizu is actually completed in there: it lasts almost 30 volumes and it took the author twenty years to complete. I loved every single chapter of it. EDIT: I now know how to play mahjong but back when I watched the anime for the first time I didn't. Knowing mahjong I was actually able to predict some stuff that would happen in the manga, but the suspense is still there

@@ksamarth0 pretty much, 20 years of monthly installments. The part where the villain dies and goes to hell and gets tormented in a nightclub of the damned before fighting the Japanese Devil and goes on a kaiju rampage really caught me off guard. Would recommend

I watched Akagi after playing Riichi Mahjong for some time, and I can assure you, it definitely will hit differently when you know Mahjong. It is also one reason why I adore this anime so much, because every game he plays has a new feel to it. All within the vast rule set of Riichi Mahjong (when he doesn't cheat, obviously), but some of the moves he pulls off are quite near improbable. It makes it so investing and interesting.

Here my fukumoto fans at? Akagi, Kaiji Ten, Zero, Gin to Kin, Buraiden Gai, Legend of the Strongest: Kurosawa... all amazing. Fun fact: Akagi is a prequel to Ten. Ten was published first and in it we see an elderly Akagi

Akagi is the first complete Anime I ever watched start to finish(2006). Akagi is top tier, gritty, suspenseful and I loved watching it. I watched a bunch of episodes of other Anime (DBZ,YuYuHakusho,RurouniKenshin) here and there throughout the 90s & early 2000s, but with school, sports, extra curricular activities, and sporadic air times, I was always missing episodes and watching stuff out of order.

I watched akagi because a collaboration with mahjong souls and i loved this video. The feeling a non mahjong player has whatching akagi is the game i hard watching initial D as a non car enthusiast And i get why akagi might be a anime for everyone.

My Childhood Anime was Dragon Ball Z! Pretty good and I still watch it from this day on! Today I still like it because I’m a teen and it has a good storyline and has good characters! Good Vid! 👍 Keep it Up!!!

Akagi is way better in the manga because there are way more comebacks between Akagi and Washizu; it took 20 years, 20 YEARS!!!!, to finish their arc (And you thought Goku and Freeza battle was long).

Tbh, Akagi really falls very short compared to Kaiji, whereas Akagi is pretty much a gary stu from the beginning, what negates most of the tension, Kaiji loses many times and man, what a great cost he tends to take. Heck, even the worst part of the Kaiji manga was the Mahjong arc for god's sake

I definitely think kaiji is better for sure but I actually saw akagi first which made me end up searching for similar anime since I enjoyed it so much which is how I actually discovered kaiji 😅 I definitely agree with you tho, I just think if anything the feel of akagi is going for something else I guess lol
