Oh P.S. How do you clean the bottom of your nano tanks? Do you gravel vac them? I have a 3 gallon tank and thought maybe I should get a turkey baster....the space is so small and there are rocks and plants in there...hard to gravel vac with the usual siphon.

I haven’t kept Anubis’s yet….but I will now, my first ever live plant is Java moss, and my 2nd is hornwort. 47 years of fishkeeping and got my first plants in 2020, after my entry in this hobby in 1974🙂 and I must say watching your tanks and scapes is what brought me to live plants👍🏻⭐️

The only downside to anubius is I wish it would grow a thousand times faster so I can have more and more and more and more and more real quick 😂😂😂 I started off a year ago with a couple of little tiny pieces and it's so exciting because now they're all getting going and I'm getting some pretty neat plants going!! The anubias nana is just so adorable and beautiful 💚 I want every type of anubius there is!! I want to be a anubia's collector 💪🌿 I really appreciate you taking the time discuss and introduce us to all the types that are out there!! I love all the new merch and items that you have! I'm definitely going to have to get some of the buttons 😁💚 It's always so fun to stop by and hang out with you and talk about all this cool stuff for our aquariums 🙏 I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend!!🌿🐟🌿💚🙏 PS someday if you would ever consider it because I know how busy you are,it would be so amazing to have you come up on our live stream with Foxie's Fishes.it's just a fun and laid back stream with this great community. We love you so much 💚🥰

As a kid, I was given a 10-gallon chrome-framed tank, and it had about the only lighting that was available, 2 screw-in sockets. The gravel was a mix of colors, some of which had worn out and turned white. So, having only an allowance to spend, I kept buying the cheapest plant at Zellers (Canadian and now defunct) around the corner, hornwort. It never grew, and it was only a matter of time until it died, dropping all its’ needles. Eventually, I took up the hobby again as an adult, and discovered fluorescent lighting. That made me very happy, and grew a healthy crop of Vallisnaria. Now, I’m taking up the hobby again, with aqua soil, a Walstad dirted bowl, and 3 different LED fixtures, the largest of which is dim and flickering, so not great, but the other 2 have appeal, and I have bought and traded for a wide variety of plants, including at least 3 varieties of anubias, which is indeed great, thank you. I’m looking for increased scale these days, so I’m hoping to get an Amazon sword, too.

Good luck!! I got into love plants about ten years ago, after 15-20 years in the hobby. Most lighting these days will grow plants. Amazon swords are awesome. Please remember they feed at the roots, and they’re HEAVY feeders. As they grow, they need more and more food. So root tabs are great for them. Just trying to help! Best of luck.

This was the first time I ever saw a video of yours, and guess why: I've been researching (for more Anubias) Anubias. 🙂 There were moments where I had to take a deep breath on your behalf, you do seem to talk without breathing 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I love your enthusiasm and I couldn't have put it any better than you did. I'd like to add: Anubias are of the aroid family: Epipremnum, Scindapsus, arum lilies, philodendron, peace lilies and the stars know how many more. Once I learned that, I went crazy with Anubias as I have nearly 100 aroids in my home. My first aquatic plant was Marimo moss, 5 balls in a small jar, 1 week later that wasn't enough and I bought a 8lt tank, sand, and various plants, amongst which one Anubias gold coin... 2 years on, now I have 11 aquariums of various sizes - I have several Anubias in every aquarium and I'm getting to a point that it is more about the plants than the fish. Like you say: Anubias are great plants.

I love anubias because it does grow so slow. I used to have all stem plants that required so much maintenance. Then I discovered the beauty and variety of anubias. I can enjoy my aquariums so much more now rather than always just seeing plants that need a haircut! Lol

You did another awesome show! I agree with you on all of the pros and cons of anubias. For a while there, I was having a hard time growing them. I've actually killed a few. I once had them in a tank and they got covered with algae. I was informed that you can drain the water below the plants affected and paint them with Flourish Excel. Trust me, that's a bad decision. It burned up the plant leaves. When it comes to aquarium lighting. It truly is a low light plant. I'd love for you to see my new betta tank. I have anubias, Java ferns, and one of my new favorites, bucephalandra plants too. Oh yeah, when I was at Aquashella, I was fortunate to pick up a tissue culture cup of variagated anubias. Right now, they are almost solid white. I can't wait to get them planted.

My first plants were 1 anubias nana and 2 java ferns from PetSmart. I still have them in my main tank. After seeing your vid about anubias I saw that it was very easy to care for, also I was able to split my anubias in two. ☺️ Same goes for my java ferns I planted them out of the tube and later on I saw your video on java fern and you said to check for string holding a bunch of them together. So I was also able to split them and plant them around, so thank you for all the awesome videos you make! ☺️👌

As a fishkeeping member of the clergy (but of the female, Anglican / Episcopal variety) I just want to say that I think it's really nice you keep a tank at the rectory for the priests. Must provide them with a moment of relaxation here and there! I remember watching a video once that featured a priest who had a major fish / reptile room. Pretty cool! Wish I could remember who it was that had featured him on their channel. Anyway, blessings as we enter into Advent...

Thanks for the very informative video! At the end, when you are discussing color, you mentioned that Gold Coin had more of a bright green, almost golden color. In my experience, Gold Coin is named that because of the roundness of the leaves, and Anubias Golden is the one with the lighter color. At least, that's how they've been sold to me. Love your videos, I have 33 Nano tanks, and you've helped so much.

I started off the same way oinkmaster and still I don't have a budget to buy a lot of plants. Luckily over time I've been able to get some plants here and there. It's exciting when you start getting growth and have more to add to your tanks!! I wasn't very successful at first but being here and learning I'm starting to get a little collection 😁 The first plant I ever got was on Jason's recommendation for hornwort. I knew absolutely nothing about plants and the fact that I threw this stuff in my tank and it grew was one of the most exciting things ever 😂😂 Glad you're here and hanging out with all of us, hope you have a great day!!

Hi Mary! Thank you for your responding to me I didn't realize you had until now I apologize. As someone who loves external plants indoor outdoor everything I'm longing for the day that I could have a jungle room filled with plants and fish and .maybe. an axolotl? 😀😀😀 I want to have guppies eating mini tomatoes that I have grown myself out of their tanks, roses growing out of some sort of elegant fish tank, bamboo of course in the Asian themed betta tanks, etc. I would love to grow mangrove trees out of a brackish water complete with mudskippers. I got me plans! 😀😀😀😀😀💕💕💕 But for now I'm just trying to keep alive my plants that I brought in from the outdoors in and see what I can do with them. My brains in the right place but in a financial bind there's only so much I can do. No matter what happens Glad to be here and thank you for everything 🤗🤗🤗

Great breakdown of the types and i find this helpful. One BIG question i keep asking myself as i start to get back into the hobby and go with nano tanks is what dangers there might be for things escaping or dropping from the tank that is harmful to my 15-year-old terrier dog? These plants might be a good place to start but i also have not seen this subject covered in channels on youtube and thought it might be an interesting subject to cover to protect dogs and cats that might munch on things. Snails will be another concern as the tanks would probably be the low/longer variety.

Thank you so much for the Anubias lessons, I have a 225 gal Tanganyikan Tank (all carnivore) which I'm lightly planting with only Anubias inside the tank (i have Pothos planted on top of the tank). I have a Fulval 3.0 Plant light which only running at 60% the white light spectrums. I've already planted two Anubias Barteri which have already produced a new leaf each in just 4 weeks after planting even with the High PH and High GH. I love the Nana Petite (it's your fault) and planning to plant 4 or 5 on lace rock at the tank foreground, along with Gold Coin and Hastifolia in the mid and back . I do have quite a few juvenile Bristlenose which have been keeping the Barteri clean and free of algae. But I am a little concerned about Petite hoping the Plecs will not damage it if algae develops. I do keep the lights on for 12 hours to keep the Pothos happy. The Nana Petite will be in a shaded area so I'm thinking everything should be ok 🤞. This will be my first planted tank. I have allot of juvenile Cichlids (27) mostly Altolamp Comps and Calvus including 5 Frontosa which has made it easier to keep my nitrates elevated at 40ppm for the plants. The Cichlids do not seem to mind the elevated nitrates or the plants and have been placing the plants in areas the Cichlids don't hang or travel through. Your video's have been a huge help !!!

I grew some beautiful anubias over three years. Without changing anything, Black Beard Algae (aka BBA) raised it's ugly head. All the plants, and I had many, ended up about 10% of their size before the BBA. I attribute this to two things, the BBA coating the leaves, and I used Seachem Flourish Excel to try to fix the pronblem which was recommended by many aquarists. I am a biologist and using a microscope discovered that the Excel was destroying the root hairs of the plants and negatively affecting their ability to absorb nutrients. I have now switched all my lights to plant spectrum from full spectrum, and I have added Siamese algae eaters. The remnants of my destroyed anubias I am attempting to restore by growing them emersed in a storage bin with a grow light. I will re-introduce them once they achieve a respectable size. Meanwhile, the Siameste Algae Eaters (SAE) have destroyed the remaining BBA on my crypts. BTW, I have seen anubias grow much faster under higher light - but you have to have a strategy that works to destroy the BBA.

I think you can plant Annubias in battery acid and it will survive. Your video just gave me an idea. It sound like Annubia would be a good idea in tanks such as Goldfish or Ciclids and you could just float them. Not a great scape but it bypasses the concern of the fish digging them up or pushing them around. Sure, you can still fix them to rocks or wood but big Goldies might still bang them around. Annubia is also a plant they won't eat. In general a good plant for scapers as one can hold their design longer. My first aquarium plant a thousand years ago was Annachris. My favorite Annubia is probably Coffeefolia as it is great for bigger tanks but I do like Nana Petite and Gold Coin for Small Scapes.

I have a new anubias coffeefolia that’s been in my 10 gallon for about a month. I just noticed today it’s got some white cloud mold/algae looking stuff around the risezom. I’m not sure if it’s because my tank lights accidentally got left on too long. I have noticed my Java fern turning black like it’s been burned from the light. None of the plants at the moment seem to be effect by the white substance, I just wanted to make sure it won’t hurt my Fish. Thanks!

I actually found some Anubias Nanas. They were pink and white leafed. It was so cool but they were to much for my wallet that day. But there are starting to be some other colors. I saw them at upscale aquatics. My first plant was an anubias. I’m not sure which one but it grew to over a foot long. The leaves never got very tall. I actually still have all of the cut pieces of that same plant now. Well I gave one away to my wife’s cousin. But they are great plants. The algae issue is my only real con with these plants. They are gorgeous.

I recently bought 3 golden wonder killifish on impulse and now I am regretting it. I didn't do any research on them and now I've noticed that my female Betta has been getting her fins bitten. She's extremely large, but the killifish are fast as heck. I'm thinking real fast about how to handle this situation without losing any fish. The killifish are absolutely beautiful, as is my Betta.

@@77slate I know. Therein lies the problem. I don't have any other space for them at the moment. The tank is filled with plants and also a floating log so it could be much worse. I let the aponegeton's grow wild and the top kinda looks like I threw lettuce in the tank, but it looks nice and it gives shelter as well. But yeah, I need to come up with something quick because I don't want to say bye to them.

I have an Anubias Nana that I attached to a piece of driftwood that some of the leaves are starting to yellow and melt back a bit. I tried to make sure I kept them wet while it was out of the water waiting for the glue to dry. Should I be concerned, or will they come back? This one is close to the top of the tank, but this is in a 5.5-gal. Top Fin tank and that light is not very strong. I did use Aquarium Co-ops liquid plant food when I first put it in the tank, maybe I used too much? I used one squirt. I have at least 4 Wentii and another 4 Nanas. I have Endler's, a Honey Gourami and Bronze corys in this tank. This Nana is starting to get a little algae but I have seen the Endler's picking at other plants. Would you suggest adding some shrimp to this set up to help with that? Love you and Mr. Prime Times' videos and live streams. Looking forward to seeing you both (?) at Daytona Aquashella! 💚💚💚💚

So guys if e ever break a leave, u can grow a new plant from it 😊

In my malawi tank i had verry low potasium levels for years (didn't knew my tapwater basicly had nothing in it). So when i started adding potasium fertilizer, my coffeefolia who was basicly stagnent with one leaf every few months, suddendly started popping out leaf one after the other. This to a rate that almost sprouted a leaf every weak. It has happened to me that because of life i didn't added potasium fertilizer to my tanks for a couple of weeks. But the instance i stat adding it to the tanks again all, but especially this one really starts to spout one leaf after the other again

I have a 75gallon tank with loads of anubias and driftwood. I have most of the varieties you talked about except the giant one. My question is if I have Amazon swords and other stem plants in my tank but my driftwood has lots of anubias on it. I am using the Fluval 3.0 I have it on from 7am till 9pm. It is at 100% from noon till 5 only yet I'm getting algae on my anubias only. I also have tons of floating plants for my Betta sorority . PH is 7 6, Kh10 Gh 9 temp is at 81 degrees.
