Certainly, a lot of others are following the Grove pattern for 4-pin connectors: "-+12" Makes sense, but sure wish they had used belt-buckle DuPont-style, or 0.254" JST connectors, as they are inexpensive and commonly available. I feel the 6-pin, keyed, IDT connector makes the best sense for SPI devices. Easy to make a cable from scrap IDE/Floppy connectors. Have miles of those.

Yeah. You're definitely not wrong on that. I'm sure reverse polarity is the number 1 factor for not using regular dupont/.254 but those can be keyed as well.
