Really great ideas, i especially loved the little printer and the ideas behind it. I have bought the supervison watercolor set you mentioned and I only can say don't buy it! The dye in it will fade super quickly even inside the tubes! So only 1-2 months later it's completely gone and you're left behind with colors like ultramarine blue. And for that the colors are simply way to expensive. There are a few KZbinr which already made videos about that, i remember Kimberly Crick did one, where she shows the fading as well. Can just really recommend don't buy this set because it really is disappointing when you use it and the color separating effect is completely gone.

The Schmincke super granulation paints are wonderful 🙂 I have the mission mijellos too and I agree with you, they are terrific, very potent colors.

The Schmincke supergranulators are amazing and make a great, thoughtful gift. I'd normally advise staying away from paint sets (like the mission gold set) as gifts because the receiving artist will often find that the quality or transparency or range of colours (who needs black or white or even secondaries for some of us) whatever of the paints doesn't fit in with their style. Like buying someone a bit of music when you have no idea what they like. Either that or the artist ends up with two very similar palettes from two different manufacturers. The supergranulators, though, they're like separate standalone sets that will be very different to the artist's normal palettte. I can't see anybody not liking these. I have the tundra set. They're off the charts and it's very easy to use them and to come up with an atmospheric, chilly painting. I've found they could do with an undersaturated red for balance, so I supplement them with W&N rose dore but I'd leave it to the receiving artist to work this out for themselves rather than imposing that extra colour on them. I also find myself sometimes using cadmium yellow in the foreground to try to get some opaque greens to add some life and to stand out against the cold background. If you're buying someone this set and have more to spend, Arctic Light by David Bellamy (which I don't yet have) might go well with them as a source of inspiration. I also have the shire set. I've found these are a bit more difficult to get to work, but that may be because I'm not normally big on green. Again I supplement these with rose dore, complementary colour to green, and cadmium yellow for some foreground warmth/opacity. And I also use cerulean blue as I find the shire blue is too green for skies. The other one I like the look of but don’t have yet is the desert set. Arabian Light by David Bellamy (which I don't have) might complement this set well, although I'm not as confident as I was with the Arctic/tundra combo. The galaxy set also looks interesting. Forest and haze look good but may include some non-lightfast pigments. Volcano, glacier and deep sea don't excite me that much. Some additions to your suggestions: both Mijello and Schmincke's Super Granulating paints have dot cards available - I have both, and while the Schmincke one doesn't have the Haze set (because apparently that is exclusive to Jackson's Art) they are naturally cheaper options to view and test out the colours. For the thermal printer, as it only does monochrome colour, you can upgrade to an instant/portable photo printer - might need a bit of configuration as a lot only work from android/iOS and you need to buy the specific paper for it (which can run expensive per sheet), but it allows you to print 2x3 inch full colour pictures/images onto sticker paper for a bit more fun and variety if you have the budget for it. Some personal recommendations would include water brushes - perfect for on the go or using a small painting space with watercolour/gouache. Add a squeeze bottle filled with water for refils and it reduces the need to have water pots, though I'd suggest having a paper towel or a reusable cleaning cloth (I use a kitchen microfibre one). And please, remember some artist's soap to clean up 😄

I really want one of those little thermal printers, but only because they're so cute, heh. Perfect for packaging as you're using it, but thermal prints are the opposite of light-fast, so aren't suitable for anything that will be on a wall or in a journal etc that will be looked at often.

So glad you found Black Velvet. I have found that the expandable makeup brush covers work great for keeping the shape on wc brushes. And they would make a nice addition to your brush roll. The US doesn't allow import of Series 7 anymore . Hoping my Christmas gift cards will allow me to get the light. Been watching the price on that for a while, if for nothing else than getting the 3 light clamps off my drafting table.

They’re really only designed to hold sort handled paint brushes. Maybe in the future we’ll look at making a version for long handled brushes.

I just found this video. A little late for gift giving but just in time to spend some of my Amazon gift card ;). I have a question on the little printer. On the link you shared (I'm also in Canada) I noticed the pink one is much cheaper than the others. Is there a reason why? I could not find any difference. Also does it come with stickers or do you have to buy those separately and if so which would you recommend? Sorry for all the questions!! Thank you!

It’s probably just Amazon being weird with their pricing/wanting to get rid of more of a certain colour. I don’t think any of the sticker paper rolls come with it, you’ll need to look for the type that is meant to fit the printer. A lot of the time it’ll be a recommended product on the listing. There are different finishes to the paper, white, translucent, etc. I was a big fan of the semi transparent but I don’t think they make it anymore unfortunately.
