Kevin it might help on the front corners of the 2X4's to cut the edge off so it want dig into the ground as you try to pull it. Put rabbit wire around the bottom for the quail and it will also help with the snakes. Well it looks like you may already have it.

Kevin I live in Oklahoma also so I know how destructive the wind can get here. A trick I have learned to make your tarp last a little longer is put nylon webbing like on a ratchet strap over the tarp every 3 to 4 feet and nail it down to the wood sides. This stops the wind from getting under the tarp and ripping it to shreds and pulling out your grommets in the first week.

I like your chicken tractor design . I like watching the whole family get into the action. Your children are such great helpers. They show no fear moving the chickens for you .Perhaps the meat birds were created ugly so it would not be so difficult butchering them. Skeeter has such a great 👍 personality!! He's so awesome 👌 of a FAMILY member 💙 to have fun with!! Do you think that just one strap will hold it?? Nice to see that the kids were out taking 👌 part in the moving. I think that the quail will enjoy being in there once the meat chicken is done. If you could figure out how to keep the snakes out from the bottom. Could you put a small perch up on one side for the quail to get up on???

So true, dogs want jobs and if you don't give them a job they will give themselves a job. My son has a Chihuahua who takes his jobs very serious, jobs he gave himself. He is so funny, he stands up next to my chair, makes a noise that sounds like clearing his throat and flicks his head in the direction of what needs doing like add water or food or change the piddle paper...and since I would say, "pew pew" when I changed it, he now tries to say it, it comes out "shew shew" LOL. He goes in the bathroom and watches the door while we go to the bathroom...if anyone tries to open the door, he runs at the door, throws himself against it to close it and barks! My son's other dog is always up to no good...I am pretty sure because she has no jobs LOL.

I'm glad you used the wheels! I've even seen a tractor with drop down training wheels that they lower and raise once in place on very uneven ground. Kinfolk farm has Quail in hoop houses with old Christmas trees and Cedar branches for roosts. He put in solar lights on the Hoop Coops that have afternoon shade so they can have enough light. Go check him out, he does a lot of good things.
@susanmarsh28564 жыл бұрын
Aaah Skeeter is such a hoot! He has everything worked out and knows exactly where his expertise is required and when. He is gorgeous. I am not local but my understanding is you can’t get some torrential rain. Would you consider coving the rear of the tractor to provide cover during storms? A couple of broomstick handles foe perches in the wet? Sowing The Land has larger removable wheels for ease of use. If you put a piece of old hose tubing or something like narrow reticulation pipe it will be easier to move the tractor.

@kathymcleod14603 жыл бұрын
I used something similar for my quail. I used hardware cloth instead of chicken wire. Quail aren't too bright so I found it was easier to scoop up my 20+ quail into a tub, move the tractor, then put the quail back. The quail loved it and even started to make nests. I loved sitting inside with them. Unfortunately neighbour complained and bylaw made me rehome them.
