Brooklyn, I raised birds for several years. When they peck at you, it's just an instinctive defense move. If it works, they know to keep doing it when you try to get close. The trick is put on so.e thick gloves, pick one up, and let it peck the gloves all it wants to. When it realizes that it's not working anymore, it gives up. Then you can rub behind their head. They love it. After about three times, they either don't try to peck, or they don't peck hard enough to hurt anything. The main thing is, never ever put one down when she's pecking at you. She has to be trained to think it's not making you leave her alone. Meanwhile this makes them tamer and tamer. Let them eat a special treat out of your hand sometimes too, if you can, even if you have to wear a glove to do it. If you can't handle this, you can also come at them from above with a small towel. They will get used to it so much that they will put their head down and fold in their wings, when they see you coming with a towel. This takes a few times too. But the first way is better. If you can do it, your babies will be much tamer as they grow up. You can do this!!!😃😃

Sooooo chickens poop a bunch at night while sleeping so you want the roost to be higher than the nest box for laying. So roosting bars higher than the nest and not over top of the nest. I hope that helps because clean eggs are a delight. Happy Chicken keeping!❤️🎉

I should have shown the roosting bars in the video. They're above the ladder, but opposite of the nesting box. Now if we can just get them to use them. They've been laying on the ground every night since we put them in their new home.

It looks like popcorn is a fun crop to grow if you have the room. You have to make room for growing some fun stuff like that in your garden I think. I love the first tomatoes, but growing melons is my favorite. There's nothing like a vine ripe watermelon or cantaloupe, and we've usually had enough fresh tomatoes to suit us by the time they are ready to pick. The kids love that stuff too and helps get them involved in the garden. It'll change their lives for the better. Life's a dance, you learn as you go, ♪ ♪ ♪

There be chickens! Where I live in LA... lower Alabama... coyotes and foxes will dig under the perimeter of the coop. For a standing coop we put chicken wire down but for chicken tractors a game camera with flash (even low flash) will deter the coyotes but not so much the foxes. A short width strip of chicken wire laid down around the tractor will work. And then just unpin it from the ground when you're ready to move the tractor. Good luck! and may God bless.

Brooklyn, honey, I just about peed myself laughing at you trying to pick up those pullets! Just wait until they're full-sized and go broody on you....I'd pay to see that, LOL! I can do that. Like that I guess they are good for a couple days. It will be nice to see the difference between breeds. All things equal I like the sweet gray one. Working hard on hot days I eat light. Pickled eggs really hit the spot. As kids we would ride bikes to the little country store and get a coke and occasionally a box of Cracker Jack. That's the mushroom works better with coatings. Now they have "gormet" popcorn. But trust me Snappy butter oil and Flavacol will do the trick. Looks like UGA is off to a good start I guess they won. On the back, where you grab the nesting box for clean out, you might want to put a flap of rubber type material covering it, as you know how hard the wind and rain gets in this country. It might keep your nesting box from getting soaked. Free eggs, free fertilizer, free mowing and weed control...key word free :). One other thing, for the kids, alot of different chickens are cool I get it, but... though they are not the most touted breed on KZbin...leghorns are the best producers, bar none. They eat less than other breeds and lay an egg every day, rain or shine. Alot of times their eggs are bigger...so what if they are white, they all taste the same. That home made popcorn makes me jealous now :) gg

I have a crazy whiting true blue chick, she was picking on her sisters today so I put her in the coop which is a converted horse stall , well she flew out the top of the barn:( went to get her she was sitting in the window but she flew away then started walking around their run so I called her and opened the door to the run and she came to my call:) Had to go buy screen material to put on the rafters on the outside of the barn so she can't get out again. the chicks are only seven weeks old. Its my first time having chickens and I have 18.

@@joshsparks8152 Sometimes you've just gotta aggravate the weeds to death. Once you get the weed seed bank down to a manageable level, you can reduce the amount of cultivation. But initially, sometimes it takes a lot of cultivation to get those weed seeds germinated and subsequently killed.

Can't believe momma and the kids didn't have fun painting the chicken condo with flowers and designs🤣 you mentioned covering the no-till plot with compost, where in the world do you get that much compost to cover that size plot. I am trying to make some out of the leaves and stuff around my place for this new garden of mine but don't have near the volume I need but if I could get a few truck loads to spread around it would probably help this new garden. Glad to see the back is getting better love the videos keep on coming. Y'all have a blessed day!
