Welcome to Varkala in Kerala, my favourite beach destination in all of India! Morning yoga in the clean white sand beach, playing in the huge waves of the clear blue water, bodyboarding, amazing sunset views from the cliffside, yoga schools, meditation, Ayurveda, shopping and a few absolutely amazing restaurants with Pina Coladas that might be just a tad too strong - you name it, Varkala has it. You will also see foreigners reacting to Indian food 😉
DISCLAIMER: This vlog was filmed during our Kerala roadtrip last December and January, well before the Coronavirus pandemic and following lockdowns and travel restrictions. I do not want to encourage people to travel in the current situation, but hope to share the beauty of India to inspire future adventures once they are safe again.

Just a small tip. Varkala has 3 syllables, Var-ka-la. When the locals pronounce this, all the syllables are considerably shortened, so it should sound more like Vrkla. Also when you say Kerala, the first syllable should be slightly longer than the other two, so it should sound more like Ker-la. Hope you don't mind me saying this.
@JohannaNorth

Looks like a beautiful place. I have seen Goa vlogs from another KZbin, it is a similar beach setup, except hippies in Goa, and Kerala looks different from Goa. Both are places to be at. India is so different from one place to another, it is like many countries in one. I hope to visit someday. Need atleast a year vacation to visit and see India. Your vlogs are very well done and informative. 100% pure vegetarians and vegans do not want any kind of animal food cooked in the same vessels would have a hard time finding pure vegetarian food in Kerala?
@JohannaNorth
@JohannaNorth 4 жыл бұрын
I've spent a lot of time in Goa too, but I prefer Varkala and Kerala. Goa is a bit too crowded, noisy and westernised in my honest opinion. And I also think the food is overall healthier in kerala. 😊 But don't get me wrong, I LOVE Goa too! Especially South Goa, though I fear it would have also become too popular since the last time I visited 😬 It's easy to find veg/pure veg restaurants anywhere in India, Kerala too. And I strongly doubt they'd use the same utensils for cooking veg and non-veg. To my understanding that goes even against ayurvedic principles.🙂

Hey Great 🏊 . Amazing trip to Varkala with you. Such a beautiful beaches, yoga on beach, sunbathing and amazing water sports, Really enjoyable . And special 💃 🌃 where we got many varieties of dances like Finnish dance, Bro dance, single rock star dance and many more. But mam @Johanna didn't leave her great madness of food, get many more recipes every where but happy that you like Indian foods. Ur special attraction towards small shops, many places & many things gives us many hidden information about our country , which is really beautiful and amazing. Hoping that ur family got ur posts that you posted on the occasion of 🎄. Sorry for asking, but maybe you have tattoos on ur back just below ur neck. What is that and its significance? Thank you ma'am for such a beautiful video. In waiting for others.... 👍👌 💐🙏

The locals do go out in the water- be it rivers or beaches.The reason why most other Indians dont get into the water is SAFETY. There are hardly any decent lifeguards in these beaches. Add to this the fact that surfing equipment is expensive.
@JohannaNorth
@JohannaNorth 4 жыл бұрын
You don't need surfing equipment to get into the water and renting the bodyboard wasn't that expensive for someone who is there on a holiday anyways 😊 also if you know how to swim and have some common sense, for example not going too far away from the beach, I hardly see there any safety issues

But isn't it the moonsoon there at the moment? I've been there years ago and although I thought it was beautiful, of course, I found it too noisy at times, particularly in the evenings and it was almost impossible to rest. It's the sort of tourism you get everywhere now, it's a bit like Thailand.. Still, I enjoyed your vlog!
@JohannaNorth
@JohannaNorth 4 жыл бұрын
Like I say both in the vlog and its description, we were in Varkala during the last New Year's celebrations. I personally didn't find it too noisy when staying a bit further away from the cliff. Obviously when we stayed right next to the restaurants, it was quite noisy especially during the celebrations. I haven't been to Thailand, but I find Varkala different from other beach destinations in Europe I've been to. My favourite part is the absolutely fantastic, authentic yoga/meditation/Ayurveda selection 😊

It's hard to whatch those people that live on a base "day by day". The irrational lock-down has ruined many peoples lifes. It shows one more time that the governments (I mean worldwide) don't know their own people they are ruling. I hope that better days will come and the tourists come again bringing money to India. And for me: I want to come and travel through India again, meet my Indian friends and see more of this beautiful country. I was there 5 times for a few months and I just got an idea what it is. I reside in Germany but I live in India because I left my heart there! Namaste.
