I can only consider maybe 4 or 5 truly great tracks - no way George would have got away with recording most of this album's tracks within The Beatles due to the group's quality control!

Norman.. I wish I had found your channel when you first opened it. Not only am I a Beatles fan but have been loving rock since I was young. I was born in 1960 so I feel very lucky to have been be born just at the right time for the British explosion along with the other huge American rock that came in the 60's. I greatly appreciate your channel and love this video about the Beatles Solo albums. Thank you very much for putting out the video. Regards from Ody Slim

Thank you for highlighting many of the lesser known albums - really interesting! I'm going to download 'Wonderwall', because i've always loved eclectic mixtures of genres. Thank you for getting me interested in that. 'Plastic Ono Band' is phenomenal - personal, passionate and unforgiving in its emotion.

I loved hearing what your favorites are. I agree with so many of them. I would have to fit Tug Of War in there somewhere. It's so good and sentimental to me. I would love to know where McCartney 3 falls for you. Is it end of the line, middle of the road or a rising star? Great video Mazzy. Have a great weekend.

Not sure I'd have the stamina to actually rank every single solo album,. Maybe someday...who knows?? I think Macca III would be somewhere in the middle right now. People sometimes tend to rank new albums higher than they might after some time. I like the record but still need to live with it for awhile. I Like Egypt Station better though.

I agree , All Things Must Pass is phenomenal,,, I do find the vocals are muddled in the mix, and I would like to see the anniversary release have more clarity. The first box set for me was also the Donovan “Garden” release,, ( I’m 54 years old) and I think it’s an overlooked classic.

Wonderwall is very interesting. It's a film soundtrack George did for a friend who was a filmmaker and it is a departure from his Beatle like material for the most part. Very good listening. I found it on CD in the 90s. It's also the first non-Beatle album by a Beatle, and while still a Beatle. It predates Paul's first solo album.

Back in my hitch hiking days me, a friend and another couple were picked up by German roadies of Wings in Freiburg. Germany Two large vans (not trucks) Crazy fun guys, we slept in one of the empty vans that night. They drove us to the Marseille Airport the next day where they were going to pick up the band (on the run) and the equipement. We stayed a while maybe catch a glimp of Macca, Linda, Denny Laine ... but we decided to catch a train to downtown Marseille. Great times. I was a big Beatles fan had a life size poster of the Fab Four in my room. Should have kept all that stuff. Thanks again. Love your vids. Cheers from Holland.

I really enjoyed this video. I have all of these albums, and all of your choices are very good (and some are better than others). Being born in 1963, I was aware of the Beatles from an early age, but really knew them as active musicians when they were releasing their initial solo albums in the 1970s. I recall getting the new "Ringo" album for my 10th birthday in December 1973, and 8-tracks of "Walls and Bridges" and "Band on the Run" the following Christmas. Those 3 albums in particular will always be big favorites of mine. I remember coveting my older cousin's duo 8-tracks of "All Things Must Pass". I'd probably substitute "Wild Life" and "Electric Arguments" with "Tug of War", "Chaos & Creation in the Backyard.", and/or "Venus & Mars", but I must say that I think quite similar to you per the Lennon & Harrison (and single Ringo) selections. I find it hard to rank things like this in numerical order. Keep up the good work!

Just subscribed to your channel… ATMP is my #1 with “Ram” being second. I keep alternating between Lennon’s first 2 REAL solo albums. So i kinda have to cheat and put them together…which is the reason why I don’t personally like to rank. And as for Paul’s BOTR album, i love it but this is an album that can’t decide if it wants “Helen Wheels” on it or not. Personally in my own humble opinion its not BOTR without it. I know thats not what Paul himself wanted but… give me a break! He mentions Sailor Sam in there, a character mentioned on the BOTR titletrack! GEESH! 😄 that’s a whole controversy in itself…

Thanks for your take on your 13 favorite solo Beatles. I really enjoyed how you talk through each one with passion. I listen to Wonderwall very often. It doesn't really grow old. One thing I think is funny, when you held up the back cover of Ram, the beetles screwing became very prominent. It's hilarious!! I think that should have taken up more of the back cover of Ram. Anyway, thank you!!!!

Just started getting into The Beatles' solo work after years of being a fan. I so far have listened to Ram, McCartney, Wings at the Speed of Sound, Wild Life, and Band on the Run. Rankings don't bother me. Whatever you like, you like. Do you. 13 is Taylor Swift's most important number and often comes up in her career.

Funny I, earlier today, had "My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts" on the turntable and thought wouldn't "Wonderwall Music" make for a nice follow? One of my favorite George albums and one I've not spun often enough of late. Possibly my favorite solo Beatles album cover too for whatever that's worth. Was surprised, delightedly so, by its appearance in your ranking. Nor do I disagree on your "Wild Life" take, an album I detested once but quite love now. Shocked though that "Ringo the 4th" didn't top the poll but "ATMP" is swell too I suppose. Seriously though, the "Egg's' omission stung somewhat. Interesting, in the best of ways, video.

Very interesting. I am a major fan of The Beatles, living in South Africa. I have everything ever released by The Beatles and by all four Beatles as solo artistes, or (in Paul's case, of course) with Wings. I like your top few places in your ranking, particularly the prominence you give to Ram, which I have always regarded as Paul's best album (ahead of even Band on the Run). My favourite three solo Beatle albums are 1) All Things Must Pass, 2) Ram and 3) John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, so my taste in solo Beatle music is very similar to yours. I also regard Living in the Material World as one of the 20 or so best albums of all time, even though many other music fans may regard that choice as being a bit eccentric.

Great list. Agree with your choices. The order is always subjective. For me George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass" is the best solo Beatle album. I know I might get belted for the next comment, however, as just a fun non complex album, Ringo Starr's Christmas album "I Wanna Be Santa Claus" is a great rocking fun Christmas album. It gets played regularly at Christmas at our place.

When Paul doesn't bother at all with lyrics he sometimes creates his best rockers. The lyrics are really there just to phonetically fit in as one with the raw energy. I don't think anyone has ever really understood this. Yes on other songs his lyrics have at times been woeful when they needed to be strong. But when it comes to rockers they don't really need to necessarily matter. So many fifties rockers had silly lyrics because they served to belt out the material. It is Paul being almost primeval. On albums like Wild Life it works. It's Tutti-Fruit- ing. It's Be-bop a Lula, It's sh-boom. It's words there for sound rather than meaning. And it has it's place in music.

Can’t argue with any of your choices. I like what you have to say each time I tune you in. I’ve always felt ‘I’d Have You Anytime’ was, in the verses, a John Lennon sort of feel. I disagree with you only on ‘Mamunia.’ I think of it almost like ‘Mucho Mungo.’ I can’t make a solo Beatles Top 10 now because I agree with this list so much. I’d have to fit in ‘Mind Games’ somehow, which would prevent me from a Top 10.

At three LP's I think ATMP is bloated beyond belief, and I cannot abide Spector's production on any Beatle project. Sure, ATMP has some good tunes on it, but I not buying into it's current hagiography. Certainly not #1. I still choose Band on the Run. Back to the Egg is also one of my favorites.

Famously Rolling Stone deliberately turned sour on RAM and played up John Lennon. I love John, George and Ringo as much as their bass player... But I have always felt-since it came out-that RAM was a TOP Beatles solo album. Plastic Ono Band or Imagine? Hard to know which one to play first. And All Things Must Pass? Yeah, I love the Phil Spector influence on George's music. As well as the George's stories about the musicians in the studio playing a track, feeling good about it. Then going up to the booth and hearing Spector's mix and not recognizing the song at first hearing. But growing to love it later. Like we did all. However... I would call this segment "13 Best Beatle Solo Records on Apple Records." Except for the first album, "Cloud Nine" all the selections are pre-1975. The exception proves the rule...

I agree with your views on Band on the run. I never got it then, to be honest, though I do enjoy Bluebird and the title track. My favourite Paul solo album is Chaos and Creation in the Back yard. John's oeuvre sadly depleted by an idiot in NYC. One wonders what he might have produced after the comeback in 1980.

Wow- Great summary! I like your observations and pretty closely track with your rankings. I’d probably swap in Chaos & Creation for Fireman. I also really like Wonderwall, but would probably rate Mind Games ahead of it. I also think of Mind Games & Walls & Bridges as kindred spirits somehow. Wings Wild Life has many great tunes-Tomorrow has always been high on my list of obscure McCartney gems. I can see I Lie Around fitting in well on that LP (though that’s probably a year or so later). I like your appreciation for 33&1/3- I also loved Woman Don’t You Cry For Me, Beautiful Girl, Pure Smoky, it’s what you Value. MaMunia never bothered me-I especially like when the synths come in and kick it to another level around 4:07 or so. And I’ve always liked No Words. I could do without Bluebird & Picasso’s Last Words. But BOTR, Let Me Roll It, Jet, Helen Wheels and 1985 remain my favorites.

FINALLY. Wings - wildlife gets the VC love it deserves, an amazing record in its time and holds up extremely well today. One of my go to Paul solo LPs for years, along with Ram. I think the reason my preferences for the same records you showed is because we grew up and around these great records when they were first released. They became the soundscape to our youth at that time and are deeply imbedded in us. I believe that early US ( maybe others) releases of Ringo had the extended version of six o’clock. All Things Must Pass is such a great record and also my #1 solo LP and always has been. I like the eccentricity of at least the McCartney choices. Those of the other three ex-Beatles are more obvious. For my taste, McCartney’s dozen or so albums since Flaming Pie would include one or two other top13 albums. Memory Almost Full, Egypt Station, McCartney lll, Chaos and Creation, Flaming Pie itself… Hard choice, but one of those at least would be in my top so and so.

Imagine is Number One. All Things Must Pass #2.... somehow nothing else really matters to me from the solo Beatles except for the odd song (like Cold Turkey), and I am a huge Beatles fan.

Very interesting list. I don't think many such lists would have Wonderwall Music or Electric Arguments in them:) or even Wild Life for that matter. Interesting indeed although I would probably have gone with albums such as London Town and Back To The Egg for Paul, and Living In The Material World or George Harrison for 79 from George:) In addition to some of the classic ones you picked of course.

We are on the same page, but Plastic Ono Band will always be my #1 with All Things Must Pass as #2. In my top 10 I would also include Tug of War with McCartney. It is a very moving record.

Of Lennon's: John Lennon Plastic Ono , Imagine, Somewhere In New York (if we're counting live?), Walls And Bridges, What ever Gets You Through The Night (but could switch with Walls and..anytime),Double Fantasy,Rock And Roll, I do love shaved fish. It could be put anywhere on this list at anytime-even tied with Plastic Ono because it has sentimental value to me, even though I am not a big collector of comps. stuff. Harrison's Stuff : Of course I love All Things Must Pass but once again because of sentimental value it can tie or be bested by Living in a Material World,Concert For Bagledesh, 33 and a 3rd ,Extra Texture,Dark Horse.Wonderwall, Of Mr.Mcarteny's solos:Mcarteny, Band On The Run, Ram,Venus And Mars,Wings Over America ,Wings At The Speed Of., Wild Light..can tie with Red Rose Speedway depends on mood,Of Ringos: Ringo ,Beucoups, Good Night Vienna and Ringo The 4th could tie no.1 depends on my mood!

How apropos. I just watched Above Us Only Sky on Netflix last night, which was great. George’s All things Must pass would be my favorite as well, and I’m hoping and looking forward to the so called remaster this year. My fear is that they strip down or out all of Phil Spector’s production.

Do you have a subscription to the magazine "Beatlefan"? If so, you would probably already know what I am going to tell you. There is a write up on your channel on page 6. Two months ago, they wrote a column with a few KZbin Beatle channels recommended. I wrote to them and told them about your channel. I received the latest copy a week ago - as I was reading through it, I saw my name in dark bold print which was a bit startling for a couple seconds. They were thanking me for sending in the info on your channel. They did a short write up about it - mentioned your Vinyl series and your unique way of reviewing Mac 111. I can take a picture of the write up and send it to you if you want to give me an email address to send it to - or I could friend you on Facebook and send it through the messenger area. I have always loved Ram - and I have such a fond memory of it as well. I drove to college in Sept 1971 to live on campus so it was the first time moving away from home. I was playing Ram on 8 track as I followed my parents in their vehicle. I love your Dark Horse shirt - I was thinking of buying one, but I have SO many Beatle tshirts already!

@@mazzysmusic I figured that you knew him - I mentioned in my email to him that you had written the Beatles England book and had attended some fests. I will send you a friend request - my name is Kathy. I will probably send the write up tomorrow. I am groggy feeling today since I had my Covid #2 shot yesterday.
