Even getting this "early game" build is complicated in this game. Everything is difficult to achieve, even the smallest things that in any other mmorpg are super normal and easy. I don't see the point in suffering so much to see your damage increase by 10 final points. That's enough for me with this little game.

question mate, do armor not give any damage mitigation at all? I thought i had to wear full plate/iron armor.
