I loved the fire station - cars parked in front of emergency doors. They would have to be moved first before a fire tender could be deployed. From my days of regularly traveling to Harare in the mid 80's, I have seen this border degrade slowly. This is such a huge difference. Now - if SA could just follow this example.....

Zambia will decide the viability of this post. It is that simple. This is because 70% of the traffic passing through it goes to Zambia and Congo. Zambia with Botswana have built Kazungula one stop border route. When Zimbabwe failed to sabotage that project, they emptied their reserves to upgrade this post, and the road from Chirundu Zambia that leads to it. This is because 70% of the road taxes Zimbabwe receives come from this route. Zambia is therefore sitting in the position of king maker. If it drives traffic from RDC and Zambia through Kazungula, Beitbridge becomes a white elephant. It should be noted that Zambia is also the conduit of traffic from as far north as Kenya and Tanzania, to South Africa.

Where are you from. I dont even live home but I know the answer to your question. Every one needs to eat. The Zim and SA side are all of full of corrupt officials high on the hog. If our governements were serious this would be a one stop, reduce processing times and implement a revenue sharing agreement but no everyone wants some form of control so the usual bribes etc can go on.

This will only work if Zambia and DRC channel their copper and other exports through this place. Fully 70% of Zimbabwe's road taxes come from this traffic. I think Zimbabwe is in for a rude shock. Zambia and Botswana spent $260 million to open the Kazungula bridge. As soon as the railroad is built, the copper of Zambia and DRC will be flowing through that route.

@@simbathomu6496 Zambia and Botswana just spent $260 million to build a bridge which Zimbabwe tried to sabotage, Botswana is expanding roads in every direction, but it wants that copper traffic from Zambia and Congo, and it is going to get it. @@dimbwemazala8978your thinking is clearly narrow. How about having nice competition and alternative routes for mvts of goods across the region? It clearly escaped your spiteful and vendata filled head, right. Zim is rebuilding it's roads, not to simply serve transit cargo, but to facilitate own trade and tourism. Remember, Zim has so much mineral wealth, and is reviving its own industry and farming sectors. This isn't to spite Zambia, Botswana or SA, but for itself.

@@simbathomu6496 The economy of South Africa is bigger than the economy of the rest of Southern Africa combined, by several orders of magnitude. Even if Zimbabwe ships all of its cargo to Beira, it will not affect Durban. Zambia will continue to ship through Durban, as will DRC. Good luck to Zimbabwe's ability to supply the traffic to repay all the loans used for that port expansion. If you are in a fight against the port of Durban, we are not with you in that fight. We have 3 ports that we will use. These are Durban, Dar Es Salaam and Walvis Bay where the Namibian government has given us a free port
