Came from a struggling 1060 and bought a used RX6600 for cheap as a placeholder card but was pleasantly surprised with how it managed to handle everything I threw at it so far at 1080p with very little compromise and at ridiculously low power consumption. I decided to just stick with it for a while. 😄

Just got my RX6600. It's great for markets like Brazil (where I live) where $200 is almost the monthly minimum wage. Got mine for R$1140, which is about $230. Considering import taxes would >usually< make the price much higher than that, I think it's a great deal. Now I can finally play Starfield without my eyes bleeding lol

Great video! I've always hung around the midtier/budget CPU-bracket because I just don't have the need for super highend cards, so nice to see these kinds of videos. I just picked up a new 6750xt for my new build for 350usd/320euro (EU customer). It was not just cheaper than any Nvidia equivalents but also cheaper than any 6700xt I could find, so felt like a good deal and performance wise it looks like I'll be satisifed.

Better to save your money and actually get meaningful differences for the amount you’re willing to spend for your needs of now and the future. I have a gigabyte 1080ti and it’s good for what i currently need and have. I just got a 165hz and gaming with my old ass pc is a lot better. I think that the RX 6600 is the clear winner here because it's a low power card and mostly because it's such a good value! Let's be honest here, if someone is still using a 9th-gen Intel CPU it's NOT because they have money to burn and the bottlenecking of the RX 6600 will be rather mild which means you won't be paying a lot more for performance that you won't be able to use. The fact that it's a great card only seals the win for the RX 6600.

A very useful perspective. I am interested in dropping a budget GPU into a Lenovo Thinkstation P520 with either a Xeon W-2133 or W-2135 CPU. As the W-2133 is only slightly faster than the i5-9600K, then I can get by with a $200-ish GPU, but if I want my money's worth with a $300-ish GPU, I will definitely need the W-2135, which is about 25% stronger than the i5-9600K. A very good presentation, thank you.

The intel arc A750 currently after all new updates sounds like the best choice for midrange stuff... I found one on Amazon for 225 euro, compared to RTX4060 which is 310+... The A750 is neck to neck now with the RX7600 which has almost the same price as the RTX4060... Yes the Nvidia still has better Win drivers, but in the long term the intel could only get better, will have better Linux support with the open source driver which is improved constantly and has better video encoder than both amd and nvidia. The Arc 770 doesn't seem like a good option due to its price and just 5-10% performance bump compared to the A750, unless you're dealing with machine learning and just needs lots of video memory.

I've just come out of a very failed upgrade - bought an RX 6650 XT 8GB to replace my 1050Ti 4GB.... and... NOTHING.... returned it and the seller sent me 3 reports - basically nothing wrong with the card - it was my system that couldn't handle it. So I accepted a very genrous 80% refund (they could have offered only 50% under the terms), and now I'm looking at a new PSU before I try again. Very annoying, but also - very good of the seller to be so kind as to offer 80% when they didn't have to - they could have screwed me over easily. So I've lost £40 on my stupidity, which I deserve for wasting everyones time. But at least I learned the limitations of my system - I thought my 550w (branded, proper) PSU could handle it - even the seller did. Turns out... nope. So I am now buying a new PSU, much higher spec. Get to the GPU ... later.... All these toys cost money and... I don't have much. I have to save up - even that £40 hit on the return hurt (but to be clear - they were nice about it!) On paper there is nothing wrong with my PC. Corsair VS550 CPU, MSI B450 Tomohawk Max II, AMD Ryzen 5600X, 4x Cruical 8GB DDR4 3200Mhz, 2TB Nvme..... it SHOULD work... but it doesn't. Upp'ing the PSU, and hoping that helps. I mean - it DOES work - I'm using it right now - it just doest like the new GPU..... or 12TB HDD.... I think - think.... not enough power.....

The question is more about the lows. While a constant 120 or 90 isn't bad it's the cavitation between those numbers and sudden lows that's particularly distracting and will absolutely be detectable

Why are Mining GPUs considered bad? A mining card that has been undervolted and overclocked, and ultimately went through less cold-hot-cycles than your average gaming GPU should not be considered bad. Obviously you never know how good or bad the mining rig was set up, but the same goes for a used "non mining" GPU.

So, drop-in upgrading from 1660ti for 1080p gaming just gives minimum improvement, to the point that upgrading only for 1440p matters? In that case, I think the 6700xt is the clear winner (though 3060 12gb isn't bad either), as the other cards only having 8gb will be an even worse bottleneck in the future. IMHO, either get a GPU with more than 8gb vram, or just save your money for a future system.

You recommendation of 4060 which has only PCI-E 8x bandwidth on a older generation like you mentioned, say it would be used in a pci-e gen 2, It would be catastrophic. Which believe it or not, is probably a lot. Just because you tech influencer geeks and followes are always on the latest trend, doesn't mean everyone is. And steam hardware survey doesn't begin to show the full picture. Many people outside the US are running pirated games, older games, etc. So it you are indeed running an older computer, make your own decision because no one has posted ever the performance of pci-e gen 4 8x card on a pci-e gen2 slot. But I would assume in a pci-e gen2 a 3060 (16x) would beat a 4060 (8x).

Did you listen to the whole video? Because I specifically call out ONLY three cards on the older system at 1080p and 1440p: the 6600, 6600 XT and RTX 3060 as an outlier. Everything else bottlenecks. Meanwhile the 4060 mention was in relation to NEW systems wherein CPU / interface bottlenecks are largely eliminated.
@LedNe0nDevil
@LedNe0nDevil 11 ай бұрын
@@HardwareCanucks So your argument is everything bottlenecks, just some less? That isn't news. Also, graphics cards are what die the most, so not everyone is going to go buy a full system, but replace what's dead, and one day years down a full rebuild (maybe) and keep using the card that still rocks and hopefully is pci-e 16x. So buy what you can afford or want it won't run away, it will be there if you ever rebuild. Honestly none of it makes much sense. You make up scenarios Idk. But hey gotta pump a video a collect sponsors money right?
@LedNe0nDevil
@LedNe0nDevil 11 ай бұрын
Btw, the fact that you think a 9600k is old is hilarious. And you thinking you are so thorough and effective with an arbitrary ''old'' cpu and when there isn't tests with every preset: low, medium, high, ultra tested in every single game makes this video and its recommendations pointless. The premise of the video is flawed. What information is someone supposed to get from this? Water is H2O ? Which again comes back to sponsor money. $$$ and trying to capitalize by capturing some of the subscribers of both you ad Gamers Nexus who always publishes a video at this time about Best and worst GPUs of the year. And worse is recommending a lower-end GPU, which when rebuild is not going to be up to par. The message you should have conveyed is upgrade to what GPU you can afford now and the rest down the line. Not a bad now, and another later, if you really need to express an opinion. In fact you should just leave the decision to the viewer, because you are unable to predict every personal situation, which this channel does a lot of, even directed at manufacturers like you know what is best and what everyone wants, the arrogance... which isn't really a good look or leave a good taste.

AMD strikes again! And I love that they are often seen as the underdog, especially with nVidias DLSS/ RT marketing which is only a thing in high end and with a small number of games. But IRL with a medium/ mainstream PC for something like a casual gamer considering price/ performance and VRAM ... AMD wins big time, especially used. No matter if an entry level RX 6600/ 5700, a midrange 6700 XT/ 6800 ... or even in die upper midrange like 6800 XT/ 7800 XT. Price/ Performance And what is often overseen: AMD can RT, too! Especially from RX 6700 XT and higher looking at moderate RT settings ... it's not bad either. The difference with a RTX 3070 and a RX 6800 / XT here depends already on the game and not always favours Nvidia. So anyone looking at 3060/ 4060 price and RT ... should take a look at AMD as well. It's already comparable.
