When I saw the word "lightgun" I was gonna comment about my old lightgun I had. It was a "Scorpion" made for PS1 and Sega Saturn (and looked like a Walther PPK). It looks kinda silly by today's standards but I maxed out Virtua Cop and the Die Hard games with it. I also clocked Virtua Cop whilst I was at a bar and everyone stopped drinking to stand and watch. @@hpttg8685 You will need the kit. This one has everything you need. You’ll also need a PC and some light gun build either by Integrim Retro or Kriscoolmod. RS3 Reaper Pro - 2 Gun bundle has everything. It does come with a Pandora’s box but it only has some mini games on it so you’ll want to either make your own build or buy one of the ones I mentioned.

If you visit the Retro Shooter website at retroshooter.com/, you can find all the information you need. If you're looking for a gun to play most games, I’d recommend the RS3. The MX24 is awesome, but it can get a bit heavy for extended play sessions.

How close to the screen can you get this gun before it starts getting all jittery and inaccurate? I would love a solution that allows you to play about 1x the screen size if possible without issues. Sinden and Gun4IR seems to be wanting a 1.5x - 2.0x the size of your screen

if you have anything over a 27" screen, we recommend at least a meter from the screen. If it's bigger and you still want to play close you can toss on the fisheye lens. Smaller than 27" you should have the lens if you want to be closer than a meter.

I've had such a hard time with my Sinden guns. I spent more time fiddling with them than playing games, I finally just gave up. Looked at the gun4ir, but the US distributor wanted to charge for the license twice when you only need one, inflating the price. This looks to be a good set it and forget it option. May sell off my Sinden guns to offset the cost.

I have a lot of Gun4IR content on my channel explaining why but I can cover a little here. First, I love the GunCon 1 mold they offer. It’s all hand-built, and RPEG Electronics does an excellent job with their attention to detail. The tracking is accurate and fast, and they also have the ability to create custom gun mods if needed. Another great feature is that it doesn’t require recalibration often, so it's typically accurate no matter where you’re playing. Additionally, they offer a DIY kit if you want to build your own. That said, it is expensive because it's essentially a one-man operation, which means their production capacity is much lower than that of RetroShooter. You're paying for a hand-built product, and that comes with a higher price tag. However, they really do a fantastic job, and I’ve never had a single issue. You get what you pay for, and it’s always been top-notch quality. I do think RetroShooter is a good alternative, especially for those who can’t afford the higher price. It gives people more options, so there’s something for almost every budget.

yes please. There were ZERO instructions in the box with the retro shooter guns, fyi. It's not hard to plug all of it in.... just 4 light sensors with 2 USBc cables to link them, then another to plug either in the PC or the box that you plug the guns and pedals into. With a bit of searching I found a link to download a calibration program so I know the guns are seen and operate correctly. I'm running a KinHank 12TB drive which works fine with an xbox controller and the PS2 like one shipped with the hard drive. Only thing I have trouble with now is the light guns completely don't work, and some consoles like the Xbox and PS ones crash. I mainly got it for the arcade games anyway. I can't find much helpful info on how to set up the light guns yet for this hard drive.

I think you'll be all set if you have all that. Plus, think of it this way: you’d be very limited with the 1Up TC cabinet, in my opinion. This setup gives you access to anything you want to play, and you can enjoy it on a much larger screen.

Dave, this is an awesome idea! I could definitely do something like this as a KZbin short, but I wish I had thought of it for the video. I’m not sure it would be super noticeable on video, though. The latency on all these guns is pretty good. However, I think you’d absolutely notice the difference between the Retro Shooter (2IR Version 1) and the RS3 Reaper. dealing with this myself. KinHank 12TB drive and just got the RetroShooter kit with the handgun and MP5 yesterday. I can get the guns to calibrate and operate only there, but not with the arcade games or console games yet. Strangely the trigger isn't allowed to be used as an input when control mapping. If I move the mouse (like in Operation Wolf), I can see the crosshairs move, but if I use the gun nothing happens. I'm at a loss how to get it all working, but I've only just started.

You can get a decen mini-pc for under 300 that will play a couple hundred lightgun games. You can also find some resellers with the games box. Still plug-n-play with these guns, you will need the 24v power for the recoil though.

@ only thing I’m not as happy with is my jolt gun is 12v so the recoil feels weaker. It’s honestly such a nitpick, I don’t know that it’s worth switching my entire light gun platform over it. But I definitely am not dropping 900 to get that with Gun4ir. I also worry that I might sacrifice tracking speed/response, the people I have asked about this all say they wouldn’t switch from Gun4ir.

@ Gun4IR is great, if someone already has a Gun4IR setup, I wouldn’t suggest they switch over. Unless they don’t like the gun they have or feel they want to upgrade it because of the sliding recoil or something like that. I think at that point, it would be worth considering the RS3 Reaper because the cost to upgrade can get really expensive and the RetroShooter is a more cost effective solution and with the improvements they’ve made, you’re not really making any consessions.

I think if you really want to unlock the full potential of these, you need to use a PC (with a solid gun build like KriscoolMod or Integrum Retro) instead of just the RS box by itself. That said, the plug-and-play nature of the RS box is definitely appealing. I just think they run into licensing issues, so I don’t anticipate they’ll continue including ROMs on the box. You need IR lights that attach to the screen. It can work on any screen

@johnmiceter if you go to the site selling the guns, they offer a bundle of plug in IR lights. It's like $30 for four. You just stick them on top and bottom of the screen you're using. Basically works similar to how Wii remotes works.
