My first time on the Nürburgring was also a bit like this, Alex is not pushing and is showing the respect needed. Lots of upgrades as well. A really nice car. I'd prefer regular engine mounts, the vibration for a daily would get old for me. Thanks for bringing us along with Alex, thanks OLH! 👍💪✌️

I agree with you. Some extremely cautious driving there. Most of the modifications stated are not needed for that lap. I have a mk3. Sport pads, tires, stiffer suspension, alignment and engine mods for reliability in track use are enough.

I don't know guys. Looks slow and unexperienced, but thats also in my mind, when I were on a trackday with one of my relative. She took a video about a few laps and on video without proper sound and wide camera angle it looked like a slow gentlemans ride even if tyres screamed in most of the corners. And also have to mention, if you have such a rigid strenghtened frame especialy on this track you should be more cautious. I have almost the same setup, and everyone who tried it on track, even MR2 owners said it handles fantastic, but on shity roads like in my coutry it can cause a lot of surprises (mainly trying go to the opposit lane while 3wheeling)

Yes! YES! Always been saying that if I had to start over from scratch, an mr2 mk3 would be my pick for a large project. the rear weight bias is exactly what I want from a car. (hopefully the rotary miata will have the same properties) Great to see enthusiasts out there rocking the cool platforms! ❤

Well done Alex, with MR2 and with driving it as you wanted to. You're showing respect to this track and not being a hero ending in a barrier. May I ask what is the short shifter that you have in your MR2? Looks like a nice, precise short throw. 👍🏼👌👌🔝🔝
@AlexIv1155 ай бұрын
It's a fully custom shifter by a German company, I'm a bit hesitant to recommend it since I did have some quality issues and had to apply a couple of Balkan fixes to it so it's actually reliable. Currently happy with it though since the fixes.

Facebook Marketplace people are practically giving away Boxsters. The interiors always look good but they never show the mechanicals.

Mrs has lower production numbers at least here in the states. I know it doesn't mean anything, but I think it does on a special car like this.

It's not really budget tbh, the engine isn't great for track use with how unrelaible it is. Costs a lot of money to get it to be as reliable as say a K20. Crazy this was uploaded just after I get back from the nurburgring with mine haha
@2zz985 ай бұрын
Its less expensive to make a 2zz reliable than to get a K20 street legal in germany WAY less expensive
@AlexIv1155 ай бұрын
The 2ZZ is the more budget solution still BUT to be completely honest, if I had to do it again, I would probably go K20 but I'd still spend a boatload on it to make it reliable for track. Both the 2zz and the K20 suffer from the same oiling problems when put in a MR layout car, compared to, say a Miata. The reason I'd go K20 is that there are off the shelf dry sump solutions available for it, which would make it completely bulletproof for track and sadly none are available for the 2ZZ at least in Europe. I haven't had any issues with the 2ZZ since the rebuild since I set up proper oil cooling. Also the K20 conversion costs about €2k more if done properly then a 2ZZ conversion, so that's always a factor to consider.

There is no engine debate... For the track, 2zz is the wrong engine. A bit less powerful, much more difficult to upgrade and unreliable when driven as stolen. For track you want a k20. For a road driver, not the case. 2zz has much more character than a k20, the propper vvti has just the right ammount of everything to squeeze it on b-roads and enjoy it almos like if the car came like this from factory.❤.

@mixalisstathis2744 ай бұрын
The answer is not always Miata but if you have both of them enjoy the MR2-W3 as Miata's naugthy brother from another mother. And yes, I know exactly what I am talking about - '96 MX-5 NA VVT swap and '99 MR-2 W3 with some distinguished bolt-ons. I think I would only trade them both for an Exige GT, if so.
