I grew up eating bread for everything. We were poor. We ate a slice of white bread folded over for hot dogs.My mom even made personal pizzas with white bread, ketchup, slice of cheese and a pepperoni. the bad American cheese isn't American cheese that's just Kraft Singles, real American cheese is from Wisconsin and you get wedges of it or you can buy it sliced from a local deli, a brand (idk if it's in the UK) that would represent actual American cheese is Boars Head. The lettuce thing I think is pointless unless it's romaine lettuce because A LOT of burger joints put iceberg lettuce which isn't very nutrient rich but it still provides that little crunch.

Thick patties are great too. Usually the higher end meat is thicker, so your Wagyu, brisket, short rib chuck need to be at least 1/2lb patties. The advantage there is you can really infuse the bigger ones as they cook longer. I always do summer burgers on the smoker with big thick patties and provolone cheese...absolutely top tier. Smash burgers are great too though, that's what we call them here the real thin ones with crispy edges.

@@MetalMann-de3xi Yea, no. Rhode Island isnt the most densely populated State, close, though. Still only a million people. You dont get the reputation of "the best" anything, by being unpopular and unknown. Less land area = less building structures. Densely populated area plus having a smaller footprint means word of mouth travels faster. Sure, there are hole in the wall places that have great food and largely depend on word of mouth for business, They're not on youtube part of a "Best in state" video. I just googled the place, lol They're located downtown Providence. Their website says they were voted #1 in Rhode Island... those "voted #1 in state" designations are paid for by the business owner. The way it works is, a foodie comes into your restaurant, writes a good review then offers to designate your restaurant "Voted #1 in State" for a price, usually around $150 - $200.00.
