There is no being serious when Bruno's on set 🐕 A good tarp is something I need to pick up by spring - leaning towards a DD, either green or their MC, unless something else comes up on Varusteleka's site by then.

For me, I would say Solognac from Decathlon. Best I have used personally.

Agreed. I'm an Aussie & Decathlon don't stock Solognac tarps & hammocks here. Fortunately, with the help of a KZbinr (Shout out to Agnello from Aggy Goes Outdoors) I was able to acquire one! They are an excellent tarp. I too, have the "tarp sickness" (bashas, ponchos, hootchies, plash palatkas etc, etc, etc) & couldn't agree more, that the "best" tarp is the one you like most, use most & can afford.

i - in switzerland, settled with helikon tex (in wildwood) for summer/spring and dd-tarp (in MC) for winter/automn. supertarp is lightweight, but the dd's thicker material is good to make an "icecone"-style tarp (gives a little insulation to the floor, too)

I feel safe in dodgy conditions with my Aquaquest Safari...but man, it doesn't half stretch and sag when it gets wet. I'm looking at picking up something poly to avoid that in driving rain (nobody needs to be getting out into the rain in winter to re-tension tie outs). I'm thinking of the Lomo, based on your experiences with their tarps.

200 sheets for a tarp?! I would not pay £200 for a tarp! Survived under the surplus Basha more time than I care to remember! I only paid out for the USMC shelter sheet when I was over there 'cos it looked cool (and "Looking Ally Saves Lives", as we all know!)

Varusteleke Sarma TST.... I am seriously considering it - but probably the 2.5m version. I need to know how much better it really is compared to say a DD standard. If it had off centre tie outs then there would be no greater tarp. It's either this of the Aquaquest Safari
@RedBranchBushcraft
@RedBranchBushcraft 2 ай бұрын
It's far better made , better quality , heavier stitching etc , but less tie out points along the ridge reduce it's versatility a bit

Great advice. I was thinking. With all your supports/suppliers I think you should do a bushcraft basics give away - pack, basha, knife, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, ferro, etc. I am sure it would help your subscribers and I am sure the likes if Varusteleka etc would support you. Use your experience/knowledge and suppliers to Help one lucky sub to get out and enjoy the great outdoors.

I always keep a 3x3 for camp FreeSoldier makes a great tarp. Next i carry a 5'x7' emergency tarp in the chest pocket of my poncho. I don't like using my rain gear for shelter. I don't believe any tarp is worth $200. I don't leave my tarps up so i could understand in that case.

Have you tried the Alton Goods 3x3 tarp? I've been using it for a couple of years and am pretty pleased with it. I've spent a not of nights under an Australian hoochie and would much rather carry a 3x3 Alton.

@@RedBranchBushcraft Been pretty good so far, but I only use mine on overnighters and have only had really bad weather once. Any tarp is only as good as your set up. but lots of strong tie-outs and good material. Easily up there with a DD for quality.
