Like all card games, Magic: the Gathering has variance. However, some cards take this to another level -- like cards that have you flip a coin to determine what effect you get! Most of these cards are pretty awful, but enough of them have found success at Magic's highest level of competition for me to make this video!

So looking at Mana Crypt, it is basixally the Sixth Sense of MTG. A gamble-based card with an innocuous effect that turns broken upon seening how little the gambling aspect matters to the detriment of the card.

Ahhhh coin flips, I'ma be honest, I don't like them in MTG. I find that the stuff happening in my OG card game of YuGiOh makes for more fun interactions with coin flips. But hey, with a #1 with that many Vintage Points, maybe this list will get some representation on "Top 10 Vintage Cards (Minus Power 9)"!

Tbh; at first i thoughts nr 1 would be the thumb, i had completly forgotten that mana crypt is a coin flip, seen as most places i see it, they use a dice odds and even, for head and tail.

Just for fun, you should have given an honorable mention or even a fake spot to Athreos, Shroud-Veiled. He is one of the best cards involving coins. So what if he doesn't actually flip them.

A funny little bonus about Krark the Thumbless is that there’s another card called Krark’s Other Thumb that deals with dice rolls and is one of those acorn cards that would actually not be unbalanced if released in a real set. This explains why he has no thumbs.

Mention for Krark of course: Copy your Krark, only need one copy effect to resolve and if the other bounces the spell you get to cast it again after getting the spell effect off the other trigger.

About a year ago I played a 60-card casual game with a guy at my LGS. Early on, he played Chance Encounter. I got excited and asked him what coin flip cards he was using, that it was fun to see an alt-win deck, etc. He seemed confused and told me that he did not, in fact, have any other coin flip cards in his deck. So Chance Encounter did literally nothing. Its inclusion actively made his deck worse. He did not seem to comprehend this when I explained it to him. He lost the game but won the war, because now I will always think of him and his baffling deckbuilding decisions when I see a coin flip card.

One IMPORTANT difference between the Frenetic Efreet vs the sliver counterpart. The sliver requires it to be in play in order for the ability to go off. Where was the Efreet does not. Meaning you can activate his ability infinitely getting you not only infinite effect triggers but also infinite coin flips which matter for some commander decks. If i'm wrong someone please do correct me however.
@astuteanansi4935
@astuteanansi4935 4 ай бұрын
Yes, the Sliver has a "If this permanent is on the battlefield" clause whereas the Efreet does not. So with the Efreet you can use the ability any number of times in response to itself and get functionally infinite coin flips. This wins instantaneously with Chance Encounter and can power Okaun & Zndrsplt

Another difference between Frenetic Efreet and Frenetic Sliver is that its ability doesn't check if the Efreet is still on the battlefield, so you can use it for infinite coin flips. I guess that distinction hasn't really mattered in the relevant formats though.
