BTW: the Mozart Violin sonatas are surprisingly underrated. I like them more than any other set of chamber music than Mozart wrote with the exception of string quintets. When it comes to recordings, I would pick Frank-Peter Zimmermann/Alexander Lonquich. They play real chamber music, they are not just two star musicians enjoying themselves (such as Perlman/Barenboim, who sound really seductive). And then there are Goldberg/Lupu and all that Grumiaux/Haskil managed to do is really magical.

I have a couple really great but lesser known favorites for a few of these works that I want to share: Dvorak American String Quartet - Quartetto Italiano Dvorak Piano Quintet No. 2 - Emanuel Ax/Cleveland Quartet Schubert Quintet - Heifetz/Baker/Primros/Piatigorsky/Rejto

I very much enjoy these marathon surveys! And it’s nice that you issue them in sections later.

I listen to the cello suites by Casals and Fournier over and again. I have heard many, many others of quality, but these two are the best. Good choices! And Henryk Szeryng is my top choice too for the chaconne and solo violin of Bach. I just don't like trying to remember how to spell his name. And for the guitar recordings, I would have to add Agustin Barrios performances of his own works, which I have only heard on KZbin.

Thanks for the time stamps! I honed into your discussion of the Brahms quartets and like you I found that there was an initial hump to get over before I could really enjoy them. Years ago I bought the Cleveland quartet’s lp which I believe was its debut release . It’s recently been boxed up in a cd collection which includes many recordings that have been unavailable for years.

I watched the whole video, thanks, very informative. I wasn't familiar with the Debussy, Ravel or Schonberg. If you want to include what you omitted here in a follow-up video, I suggest Saint-Saens, Boccherini, and maybe even Enescu.

Very interesting and enjoyable video, thank you. How many versions of the Beethoven Quartets should you have!? I have four, so far!

Biber is actually pronounced Bee-ber (it's the same word in German for the animal beaver (castor))

This is a valiant effort! I would have add the violin sonatas by Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber.

So many great recordings and works mentioned! I find the violin is very far forward in the 1952 Tchaikovsky Trio recording with Gilels. Better is the 1966 version with the Moscow Trio (Baskirov, Bezrodny, Khomitser) IMO.
