I suspect that was a joke - much as if he'd suggested Hope as the best character in FF13. Come to that, anybody other than Lightning in FF13. Of of the big things FF7 has going for it is its overflowing roster of unique and interesting characters. It's probably equalled in that regard only by FF9.

I had some xp with Motion Capture and really admire modern FF titles' seriously fluid, accurate animations and movement and fight choreography - it finally did the cinematic style of the narrative justice. As well as the character's facial likeness and performance capture. Kudos to the devs. Ps. You almost saw me as Leon in these new Resident Evil games :)

FF7 to me is Sephiroth. I think he's one of the best video game villains of all time, and he's the first villain I hated as a kid because of you know what... Plus hes got the most iconic villain theme. Stories that can create a really good villain makes the story worth watching

For me it would be cloud and sephiroth as a close second. They both just have so much depth to them the reason cloud would be mine is he came from all of those problems broke and lost himself and still pieced himself back together again faced and conquered his demons. Definitely agree on sephiroth being the most iconic villajn still is my favorite of all time.

How is Laguna not the best character in 8?! He is the only flushed out/likeable character in the entire game. Seifer has a cool concept behind him (Squall's nemesis and all that) but is so misused and poorly implemented that he barely leaves any impact on the player (and other characters, for that matter). He's cool and him cutting Odin in half was pretty awesome, but that's it

Honestly, I think Final Fantasy 8 is too convoluted and often ambiguous to have great characters. But I think Squall is the best just because of his character development.

@@DRAGONOFDESTINYZ definitely agree on the first part, but wholeheartedly disagree on Squall. His development and relationship with Rinoa is so forced and Squall himself goes from being an asshole loner to a slightly-less-assholish-slightly-less-of-a-loner. And I just didn't feel his "becoming a leader" arc. Like, at all. Laguna's arc on the contrary is well structured, emotional, has good chemistry and Laguna himself, as I already mentioned, is a very likeable fellow. I also really liked how Laguna's rather eventful life story, had an impact on the entire storyline and some characters (including Seifer). The conclusion to his arc is the only one in the game I've actually cared for.

@@DRAGONOFDESTINYZ no, he was just a Galbadian soldier. He was in love with Rinoa's mother during his service and later a sort of adoptive father to Ellone. The original concept for FF8 was to have both Squall and Laguna to be fully fledged protagonists, but Laguna's segments were eventually drastically minimized. And even so, his 3-5 hour story manages to have more depth and cohesion than the main story line. I do agree that he definitely deserved more time throughout the story, but considering the type of character writing of the rest of the cast, he definitely shines the brightest and somehow his briefly shown relationship with Raine is much more touching than Squall and Rinoa's (THE LEITMOTIF OF THE ENTIRE GAME)

Each to their own, and everyone has their own opinion. But I got to say, Zidane over Vivi? Seifer over anyone in 8? Noctis over Ignis? Why? I would say Vivi for 9, Squall, Zell or Quistis for 8, and Ignis for 15. (He literally goes against Ardyn, and is blinded because of him, still manages to fight through to help Noctis)

Clive's character arc is finished before act 1 even is finished. The game skips over most development Clive has with timeskips. Cid steals every scene he is in with far less screen time than Clive. I'd argue Joshua and Dion are more interesting than Clive.

I've haven't played much of Final Fantasy Games, but I have Final Fantasy XIV and XV on PC and I've been thinking buying and playing Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth to PS5 defienitily Rebirth The Newiest One. Final Fantasy Characters what I know and like are Cloud, Sepiroth and Tifa (Final Fantasy VII), Noctis Lucis Caelum, I remember when I've watched someon'es Tqwitch stream about of FF XV, the Streamer and Chat said he looks like a Live Action version of Sasuke from Naruto, Cindy and Gentiana (Final Fantasy XV). I've been interested and excited for Final Fantasy XVI for a long time since it's launch, and I have PS5. Should I buy XVI on PS5 and play XV on PC before that? We can argue for days over this, and some are debatable : I would definitely pick Yuna for FFX (most compelling character with the best story ark) and Ashe for FFXII (yeah yeah, Balthier's is cool but the whole story revolves around Ashe and she is one of the most fleshed out female protagonist of the entire series (much better than broody Lightning!)). But who on earth thought there could be a better character in ANY Final Fantasy game than Vivi Ornitier??? I like Zidane but he's not even close second best!

There is no possible rationale by which Vivi is not the best character in IX. His emotional arc makes him one of the best characters in all of videogaming. I was divided on whether Yuna or Auron was the best character in X. I still can’t decide. Sephiroth should’ve taken Tifa’s spot for VII. Otherwise, I think you got it right.

I agree with almost everything in your list, i would just add Seltheus in 11 and emet selch in 14, also prefer squall before seifer despite his emo behaviour and i really like steiner goofy vibe in ff9

I agree with most of these! I'm impartial to 8, so I have no favorite. I would change 6 to Locke. Celes is a worthy candidate and great choice, though! I never played 2 or 3 but they're on my to do list.
