There’s no shame in having a good cry now and then. For this list we’ll be tearing up as we remember the saddest and most emotionally damaging deaths in the Final Fantasy franchise. What’s even sadder than aerith demise is that Joshua says his final words to Clive before dying in his arms and after ultimalius fight we see many flashbacks of Clive and Joshua 30 year journey ranging from childhood to There teenage years and now seeing clive saw his brother die a second time and failed to be his shield.

Spoilers: I feel like Joshua needed to be on the list instead of Clive,or maybe even Cid. Joshua’s death with the flashbacks and music to me was more impactful than Clive’s,and I believe Clive is still alive at the end of the game,but it’s really up for interpretation and purposely left ambiguous.

Noctis death is definitely the most saddest to me. He's been raised as a pig for slaughter, a fate he can't avoid, unable to live a normal life with his friends or the love of his life. Everyone knew that, it's horrible that they lived carrying the awareness that Noctis couldn't escape that cruel fate. His talk about his emotions about his imminent death at the end of the game is terribly heartbreaking.

Oddly enough, while Cid can be saved in FFVI, you are better off not doing so. Thematically speaking that is. Nothing quite sinks in the feelings of hopelessness and despair, like Celes watching her new family die and then attempting suicide. It really drives home that the world is ruined and all hope is lost.

Can you not spoil in the freaking THUMBNAIL???? Edit: Apparently it is not clear that the Aerith of the thumbnail is the one from FF 7 Remake trilogy. A trilogy that embarked on a goal to "alter" the original story and therefore, create something new. Tetsuya Nomura himself asked to people not spoil the finale of Rebirth, knowing the expectations behind Aerith's fate in the new trilogy and how people feel about it. So, in case it is not clear, do not spoil the end of Rebirth to anyone, cause there are a lot of people who do not own the game for various reasons (me, for example, still dont have a PS5 or the means to buy it). Hope it is clear now.

Aerith's death for me is unquestionably the most heartbreaking, not just in Final Fantasy but in every game or franchise I've ever seen. Also, after they made Jessie's story more in-depth in the FFVII Remake, I confess that it also hurt much worse than in the original game.

Bad news for you Mojo but Clive is largely ambiguous, but if you follow the narrative set up… he probably lived. The community will tell you Clive has a habit of taking on other names throughout the story, and he has a conversation with the lore guy in his final quest line about writing a book when the journey is done… which is hinted to be the book Final Fantasy by Joshua Rosfield. Jill also knows when the dawn comes, Clive will always come back, hence why she and Torgal stopped mourning. There’s a lot of narrative to catch if you ever paid attention in English class during literature lessons. Chokov’s Gun. You don’t put something in a narrative unless it’s gonna pay off later

I know the list is subjective and all, but no mention of either: Minwu, Richard or Josef from FF2 seems odd. Then to miss out Aria who was the first character to have her own theme is even more so. Even Tellah from FF4 is worth a mention as all he wanted to do was avenge his daughter and then in death he acts as a guide to Gordon. This list just seems to focus on FF7, and yes, Aerith does deserve to be on the list as her death is iconic, to overlook the earlier entires in their series is bizarre.

Yeah, I mean, you missed quite a few. I know this is a Top 10, but it probably should be a top 20/25. Four deaths in FF2. Tellah in FF4. FF6? Probably Leo’s death is more heartbreaking than Cid’s. And FF14, you have Moenbryda, Hauchefant, Ysayle, Papamylo, Minfilia. And also a ton of fake-out deaths. Honestly, you should have one on best and worst fake-out deaths in Final Fantasy.

Somehow you missed Tellah's death in Final Fantasy IV, when he sacrifices himself by casting the meteor spell against Golbez. Everyone knew Aerith would be #1. By the way, the original Final Fantasy VII came out in 1997! That was the most powerful moment in the original, so there was no way in hell Square Enix was changing that in Rebirth, so no point crying about a "spoiler" in this video.
