After a career as a 3 chord-song-root-holding electric bass player in a cafe orchestra i was so pleased with your ‘everybody can be a musician in his own way’. Playing just that ‘one’ note at the right time, synchronising my brain with that of others in the band and audience was already magic. Your enjoyable teaching (or ‘exploring’ as you so invitingly call it) of the workings of harmony frequently compels me to get up to my piano (!) to find so much more magic.

Wow, that's a lot of options! V-I-IV reminds me of what I hear in many pop songs.

I really like this kind of videos. Each progression has an other story to tell, an other feeling to it. Some are like questions or bitter memories, others strong statements and so on. Hearing them next to each other is quite inspiring. My favorits: 6, 9, 12

Classical harmony told us that the common resolutions for V are I and VI and we can not resolve it to a group of subdominant chords (ii or IV). In the ABRSM exam which rules should we follow the classic harmony or these progressions are good also?

Cadence resolutions from V are I or VI. The other progressions are perfectly possible depending on the context. Of course one needs to look out for parallels etc.

Hi Gareth. can I ask a question please? Is it ok or acceptable to follow a V7 with a V? It's often used the other way round to build tension befor resolving to the tonic. But I'm writing a simple tune in D with a repeated vamped four bar introduction which goes like this |: D |A7, A | D | A7, D :| And to my ears it sound ok. But I've not come accross V7, V before.

That’s perfectly possible. Usually V is followed by V7 rather than vice versa but if it sounds good in your given context go for it.
