Great review Rhett! I got a pair of these, haven't used them on a proper short film yet but only small testing videos, although it is quite a change of pace when it comes to having and rigging cinema zooms. While I love the concept of a cinema zoom lens on a conceptual level, on a practical level it becomes challenging for a solo operator. My "issue" with these two lenses is that I always find myself swapping for an extra reach on the 10-24 or a little wider on the 20-70, it makes the recent Laowa 14-60mm seem like an absolute banger when it comes to overall versatility, that does feel like a proper "only-one lens" lens. Also Laowa has their S35 Rangers which are absolutely tiny! I guess what these lenses have going for them in the end is the image characteristics.

@@loiccardenas I’m trying to get them to send me that lens but they’re being a little shy!!! Yeaaa I really felt a lot I was only using the 20-70 and then the 10-24 spend a LOT of time at 10mm only Was there anything I missed youve found ?
@loiccardenasАй бұрын
@@RhettThompsonFilm I rarely use 10mm mainly because of the vignetting with filters, that's the other issue with the 10-24, you need a matte box to prevent vignetting. So most of the time I used 12-14mm. I like the lenses but I wouldn't buy them again mainly because of the practical aspects of using cinema zooms, although they are pretty fun haha.

I was waiting for your take on these! “Detailed softness” - Best description of the characteristics
@RhettThompsonFilmАй бұрын
I’m glad I thought of that term because yeah I think that describes it best! They are clearly not the sharpest lenses, but the detail rendered is actually pretty good even wide open

Another dope lens review - really helpful to hear about the user-experience from someone who used it on a solo wedding shoot, since sometimes the specs don't tell the full story. Very cool lens pair and could be interesting to compare against the PL 10-25 and the classic Sigma 18-35mm w/ focal reducer

At least such a lense looks great on lumix

Hey Rhett. I have a 20-70mm DZO cinema lens. It is slightly soft but looks more filmic than photography lenses. It is a very well built lens.
@RhettThompsonFilmАй бұрын
Yea it’s strange but really beautiful honestly. They give you that “look” in a zoom lens and that’s pretty rare!

I have a Panasonic GH5, and these were on my radar way before i even thought of buying that camera. Finally seeing a good review of these is definitely nice, and confirmed that they're good. For now i don't have the money for them, i have a sigma 18-35 with a sleedbooster, which i usually use at f2-2.4, and looks actually quite similar to these, if slightly cleaner. I'm using my sigma in a similar rigged up configuration, as a solo operator, and it's actually quite nice. I'll have to see if fully manual zooms will guve me the same experience though.
@RhettThompsonFilmАй бұрын
Yeah, they really are a premium experience. That sigma is a nice lens, of course, but I really love the wider angle these provide and really pleasant focus and contrast and everything on these lenses is really beautiful and if you have a rig definitely seem like a good option. Might be worth renting at least one of them for a project maybe just to see for sure.

I'm looking at the Laowa anamorphic zooms for my first cinema zoom lens. These DZOs look really good though!
@RhettThompsonFilmАй бұрын
@@AfoteyAnnum for MFT?? Man if they ever email me back I’ll let you know cuz I’m trying to test that out! They’ve got a non-anamorphic zoom lens too for MFT that I haven’t heard anyone talk about! Cine zooms are so complex man you can really just feel the engineering power that went into making these and I’m sure those Laowas too. The more Cine lenses the merrier I say!

Oh, these are super cool lenses! I wonder if you put them on the s5II, will they capture the aps circle?
@RhettThompsonFilmАй бұрын
@@ggdfggdfgdffgfddg34 they might but I doubt those corners would be too pretty. I think DZO makes some APSC zooms or even maybe some full frame ones but not sure.
