¡Buenos días! Twenty-one weeks from today, my husband Jorge, our happy, handsome Golden Retriever mix named Buddy, and I (Jody in English, Pepe in Spanish) :-) will climb.into Jorge’s CR-V and drive from Dallas, Texas, to Querétaro City to commence a new phase of our life together. Jorge is originally from Puebla City … I’ve been a Dallas boy for 67 years. Jorge and I have been together for almost 30 years … finally got married in March of this year :-) … we are both retired teachers. We will rent a home in the lovely community of Zibatá, about 20 minutes north of the central historic district. Super excited about the move! We love Querétaro City … in fact, we love the whole state of Querétaro. We aim to do volunteer work and, for me, it will be a joy to speak Spanish daily with my Mexican brethren. I started to study Spanish when I was ten years old … simply because I wanted to have Mexican friends … to be accepted by them … and now I will live in the country of the people I admire so much. ¡La vida es buena! ¡Saludos from Jody (Pepe) Quillian! :-)

Mérida has so many of the same draws as Querétaro! I think the biggest differences are Querétaro is nowhere near the ocean, high altitude, more mild weather, right in the center of the draws of central Mexico (including near Mexico City). Mérida is hot and humid, greener, near the beach, cenotes, and Mayan culture. They're both fantastic options but the weather is what tips the scale for Querétaro to us.

I can only give advice based off of what I've seen because I've never done research with children in mind. We used to live in Zibatá and the parks were so full of children playing every evening. I imagine this is true all over the city but a gated community like this might be where parents feel safest letting their children out of sight.

@sergtana
@sergtana 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes, Centro histórico is very walkable although, if you do not plan on having to move around too much, other neighborhoods such as Alamos might be good too since it's central so Uber would be cheap to go anywhere and it also has most things you need within the neighborhood. Cost of living in mexico city is honestly more expensive because of rent. The rest is basically the same and there are even some things that are cheaper. Of course, there are nicer restaurants in mexico city so if you compare those to regular ones in Querétaro it'll seem more expensive.

The historical downtown is very walkable but the rest of the city feels a bit car centric. At least to go from neighborhood to neighborhood.

Bonito lugar pero mucho concreto. Faltan áreas verdes. El transporte no es óptimo, a mi parecer. La gente es muy amigable y amable.

Queretaro is the place where the kids of drug lords live. So the drug lords want to keep it safe and clean for their kids. Thats why its such a great city

Querétaro is definitely cheaper than Mexico City but I believe it's still considered to be one of the most expensive cities in Mexico.

Queretaro is a money city if you don't have a strong income I don't recommend it it expensive there it has blown up and is over price a piece of land in cumbres de Lago in juriquilla cost 50k dollar queretaro is not cheap my uncle lives in cumbres and owns a lot there and that is why I no plus all the supermarket there are expensive you go to a sam's club or Costco and it expensive everything import from the USA is high price so if you don't have a strong income and don't no how to budget I really don't recommend I make dollars and I don't even live there

Can I get a house to rent in Queretaro with a back yard or they are all apartments?

There are certainly many houses with backyards that you can rent! It is a city though so you probably won't find huge yards unless they're fairly expensive.

Although we love Querétaro and lived there for a few years, the options that Mexico City offers in terms of walkability, a little faster paced life, vegan food, cafes, etc. It's just a more exciting place for us in this stage of our lives:)
