As a person that has two Revs and plays all three elite specs, I approve of this message, although I still love my Scrapper and Mirage specs the most. Anyone out there that hasn't given Rev a try, do it, you won't be disappointed.

I would suggest Engineer for a close second place. Power Scrapper, Power Quickness Scrapper, Power Holosmith, Condi Mechanist, Alac Mech, and Heal Mech are all very good builds. They cover all the same range of roles as Rev, but maybe Rev just has a bit better performance on some of its builds. And even though Mechanist is a beast of a solo spec, I can’t argue with how incredible Condi Vindicator is, that spec is cracked lol.

I agree, revenant is pretty awesome, but I find myself playing Firebrand more for condi DPS because of one really nitpicky issue with the Renegade shortbow where the skills will randomly get obstructed or fail to hit the target. 100 CM is probably the biggest offender of this, you'll frequently see "Obstructed!" pop up when using shortbow, despite the boss being in the middle of the room 😒Shortbow 3 and 5 will also straight up miss sometimes because it careens off a ledge or aims directly forward rather than up/down at an enemy's hitbox. Other than that, Rev overall is incredibly flexible and super fun to play.

That's kinda the reason I bailed on my Renegade condi shortbow back when it was hot. It worked great when it did, but there'd be random times where just the whole load would be Obstructed for what appeared to be no reason whatsoever, and poof, there went all your damage. It's like whatever point they picked for drawing LOS was at your feet on ground level or something, so any small height change or bumps/hollows in the ground map would just make it throw it's hands up and say "nope, get lost!"

A thing that is huge for rev also is their access to staff. Most rev builds don't even really 'need' a second weapon set letting you flex in staff when you need for very good breakbar/utility.

Revenant doesn't have enough customisability, though. It falls short on both class and weapon skills.

As someone who maining Rev since HoT released, the class has been going through up and low but i never thought the day Rev is at the top of the food chain would come. It was 7 years long and i am beyond happy. I'm also having engi with full role setup which engi probably end up at 2nd place in the chart, those 2 are the absolute power house there is no limit of what you can be and can do, not to mention both of them are actualy really good in WvW as well. As of this moment a rev can provide stab on demand, projectiles block (nearly 100% uptime), quick, alac, dps, condi, power, heal, tank, kite you name it and ofc Lord Hizen made a build that is immortal in solo play, this class is just ridiculous.

My only issue with REV is its lack of variety. All power rev build essentially end up with same old sword/sword Shiro, same for condi with mace/axe Mallyx. It gets old really quickly (however it may still be in a better state than Engi). Things like condi Renegade or celestial Vindicator do help with that a little though.

Yeah but Vindi uses GS, so there is pretty good variety. As far as Shiro goes, I was looking at what legends to bring on qHerald for most raid and strike bosses and you use Jalis over shiro for the majority because Stability is legit.

I really love playing Heal Herald at the moment. Tanking any Boss is super easy with this build and even without ever going to Ventari i can keep the whole squad at 100% health all the time. Plus you just dish out boons like crazy.

While I don't disagree with your words, I have to throw engi in the ring as a strong contender for best pve class. while it doesn't have the best access to quickness outside of scrapper. It does have mechanist and we all know that can basically cover any position it wants. As a former guardian main I thought FB was busted and then the game got mech. and then if you want a stupid dps build you get holosmith, scrapper also has huge support roles because it can just res squad mates if the go full on pepega. i really believe that it just gives Revenant a run for its money super hard right now.

Scrapper buffs for the pure dps variant arguably make it the best engineer dps spec since its less than 2k from peak power holo dps and the rotation has tons of room for error similar to mech. 37k mashing buttons off cd, superspeed, strong cc, combo fields for days. It's very good.

Bro i start the game some days ago, and i get a warrior, but now i but the expantion and i can try rev... but... my warrior is lvl 80 already and i complete too much in my character... if i chose a new character i start from cero??? Lvl 1, no complete quests??? Need to do the all game again??

when you bought the expansion you would have received a free Level 80 Booster in your shared inventory slot. You can use that on a new Rev

There is one thing that Rev can't really do, and that is the rez bot. Lately my favorite class to play in open world has again become the Necro simply because I need those antique summoning stones for Gen 3 legendaries and I feel Necro carries a Soo-won pug harder than Rev. Sure both Vindicator DPS and Herald boonlord are amazing in that fight, I feel on Necro I have the option to swap between Power Reaper (when the group is good and very few deaths in phase 1) and Heal Scourge (many deaths in phase 1, or many deaths in some escort events) depending on how experienced the group is.

it also is the only profession with truly terrible ranged options. You got hammer as a whole, no condi option for herald/vindicator, or the shortbow if renegade. That's it. even for skills, range is often limited.

Despite Herald being a top tier support in the game, I pretty much dislike they way ANet implemented its boon application. This has become more prevalent with the like of spammy utility skills such as wells, facets, spirits and banners regardless of their original function just to keep the boon up. Meanwhile, Tempest, Mirage, shield quickness Chrono, Firebrand have boon embedded to their spec mechanic and Renegade, Mechanist just have to press one button.

I've been playing a ton of Rev lately on all 3 elite specs. With the changes to OFA this class is a powerhouse and feels, a little slept on tbh. Herald can be a real hard carry for groups that struggle with boons or stab. Renegade is a solid alac DPS and good in both Condi and Power variants. And even Vindicator is a solid Power DPS option with a ton of dodges and survivability baked in. Rev is the only class that I enjoy all 3 specializations on.

Ok I have a question, I just returned to the game. My main was a warrior somewhere in the HoT exp. . Now I returned (because of my steamdeck easily playing gw2) and leveled up a revenant fresh to get back into the gameplay. I just thought it could be fun and its amazing. Now i am at 80 and have most of the main game unlocked, and gear is a mix of celestial and Beserker right now, still on basic revenant after ca 30h. Almost done with personal story. And have a good chunk of HoT and PoF maps unlocked (for HP farming in a train). Now i have around 500 Hero Points to unlock 2 Elite Specs to play with. My goal right now is just mostly PVE OpenWorld/storymodes and maybe some early fractals or strike missions. I just dont want to be too easlily killed from open world bosses. Which 2 of the 3 specs are best for that? Gear wise i know i dont have easy acces to ritualist armor so i think condi is out, if celestial is not good enough for that, which would be fine, i could get the rest to full celestial easy with bladed armor. Anyone got some tipps?

I would unlock Herald as Quickness Power Herald is one of the best builds in fractals, strikes, raids AND open world. It uses mostly berserker gear so its easy enough to spec out. check out hardstuck.gg for the full written build guide.

Cata is in a rough spot because as a pure DPS build Weaver is a bit ahead and the quickness cata support build tends to be weaker than firebrand or the herald. I wouldn't switch mains though, play the class that calls to you aesthetically.

Catalyst is very strong in raids, strikes and fractals. It's just a lot of buttons to press. Power weaver is easier to play with the same damage, but not as tanky and provides less to groups. Overall catalyst is great, but it can be hard to main since you have to many skills in your rotation to justify picking it over an easier to use dps class like spellbreaker.

I've been maining Rev for about a month a I'm enjoying this class as nothing else before. Really like the versatility and utilities it can bring. Even as dps Vindicator, I can still bring ventari bubble or boon strip with pull, stability or even staff for CC and I won't loose that much damage. Also qHerald is awesome and Alacrene is god in CMs fractals I don't understand why I was avoiding this class for this long

I would argue that Quick Scrapper is a tier below Quick Herald, Holo is half a tier below Vindi, and condi mech is a full tier below condi ren. HAM is the one build thats a bit better than the Rev equivilant (heal quick herald) but over all Engie is roughly the same as Guardian, a notch below Rev

@@dukefx32 I specifically mentioned PvE not PvP/WvW. I also didn't say they were weak, just "fine." The vid is "best PvE class" and it is extremely unlikely thief will ever occupy that spot. Main issue is we've always had DPS and nothing else, and even when we get a "healing" spec, ANET just can't commit to letting it be good at healing. We basically provide alac and some barrier, but still focus DPS. Look at consume shadows. Since the beta, it has been nerfed 75%-95% and had its ability to rez removed. Scourge can have an AoE rez though that's fine. We also get single target prot and quickness...super useful. I still really enjoy thief but I'd like to play what they advertised (heal/defensive support) and not just damage all the time.

Maybe ally target auto chain could bounce or something as well. Shadestep could also be way easier to use with a "target nearest down" key or even just better squad UI. It doesn't have to be awful but they just don't seem to care enough to make it more useable.

As a new player you can just camp greatsword with no need for weapon swap and still do top tier damage. In general you want arcemoris/shiro legends and start fights off with arcemoris legend. Take a look as the build/traits that Nike linked specifically power vindicator. The build might ask you to weapon swap for dual swords, but that's not really needed since you want staff as a 2nd weapon if you need lots of cc. Here are some tips to help you maximize power vindicator : 1. Arcemoris elite skill then dodge or atleast dodge to start off all fights. Death drop trait gives damage boost after dodging and gain even more damage by having less than full endurance so keep dodging to keep the damage buffs up, but don't over dodge since you need the dodge for mechanics as well. 2. Generally speaking, prioritize 2 and 3 on your greatsword, but also remember to finish auto attack chains (3 auto attack chain) in between using these skills or any skill for that matter. I'll discuss greatsword 5 next. 3. Your biggest damage comes from greatsword 5! With this ability you always want to use it during shiro legend with Impossible odds (shiro utility skill) active. During shiro always keep impossible odds on and spam greatsword 2 and dodge in between while waiting for greatsword 5 to comeback. Don't forget to stand as close to the enemy as possible to land all the attacks of greatsword 5! 4. Always try to use Arcemoris elite skill before swapping to Shiro, but also keep in mind you want to swap to shiro immediatly off cooldown for legend swap and turn on impossible odds. 5. Some other tips : Greatsword 4 block is super strong and lasts super long meaning it can block multiple consecutive attacks and countless other mechanics

What about heal alacrity? Engi has hybrid quick and alac, also has heal quick and alac. Holo is a fantastic pure dps. Engi also has simple rotations in mech and complex skill Ceilings in Holo. I personally don't play too much engi outside of ham and some qscrapper in PvP, if a player said they'd only ever play 1 profession, I'd recommend engi over anything and I didn't even consider rev a choice. I learnt to raid on a Condi renegade and it holds a special place for me, wouldn't say best profession in the game though.

I 100% agree that Rev is in amazing spot right now, but i'd argue that it doesn't really excel at anything (except for Alacdps since alac untamed and staxe mirage tend to be abit to difficult for the avg player). I'd still take a HFB over a qh Herald, QFB beats any quickness spec by a mile. Spb and virtuoso are the best allround dps atm & guard+ele are doing an amazing spot at high raw dps builds. Healalac ren is also alot worse then stuff like mechanist, druid and Tempest. Id probably still give the nr1 spot to guard right now. It offers BiS for qheal and qdps, dps output is great on CFB and Pwillbender, alacdps is also very solid on WB and has amazing range. Sure it lacks abit in the healalac departement, making it abit less versatile then rev, but it definitely makes up for it in higher build quality in the other party roles.

Imo qherald and qscrapper are both better than qfb. healquick herald is behind healbrand because of aegis, but is stronger everywhere else. Condi ren and condi firebrand are neck and neck, but ultimately cfb is much easier giving it the edge. All in all guardian is hard carried by firebrand spec and the video is about the best 'profession' not the best elite spec. Renegade, vindicator and Herald are all relevant and meta while willbender and dragonhunter still feel slightly niche as dps or support although they aren't weak by any means

I wouldn't say it's strictly the "best class" it's more accurate to say it's the best well rounded class because all their specs are viable. However, keep in mind that rev is going to go back to being in a bad spot in a future patch as ANet has their eyes set on rev. Long term, Guardian may still be the safest class to pick as quite frankly in a handful of months vindicators could get gutted even further along with renegade leaving the viable options for rev being support Herald considering no wants a Herald for their DPS.

Thief needs a huge rework. I never stick with it since it lacks cleave damage making it only really viable in raids or strikes and it suffers a lot in fractals and open world unless you're against one enemy. Thief in general sees so little play I think the devs purposely ignore it since so little players are impacted.

I'm surprised you didn't title the video "The best class in GW2 PVE RIGHT NOW is... (2023)" We all know that Anet can flip any profession and it's builds upside down in one swift "wtf are you doing" move XD Anyways, I 100% agree that revenant is top notch right now in a lot of ways. I don't think that heal herald is particularly good when it comes to CM's for most raid and strike missions because it lacks the same healing potential as druid (and firebrand when it traits for healing) and it cannot provide stability at all (which especially knocks it far down the list when doing strike CMs and fractal CMs). Just a PSA for all those who'll be trying out revenant from this video: you can turn off all audio sounds that revenant legends and activate utility skills make so as not to make your ears bleed with frustration. Remember that your audio experience matters and will impact your enjoyment of the class because it's the noisiest class in the game (with tempest coming in second and mesmer's inspiration signet "I cAn oUtRuN a ceNtAr" coming in third XD)

Or let's at least say that there are significantly fewer players who know how to output as much healer as druid than what there are druid players who know how to output a lot of healing. Heal herald is a lot more complex and requires knowledge of how the traits contribute to your healing output and this often results in it outputting much less healing on average then your average druid player.

@@kajhall3581 quick heal herald is easier to play at a good level than druid. I genuinely don't know why you're debating this with me. Play heal herald for 5 minutes and you'd see its healing is almost entire passive with huge output.
