Walmart because I can’t afford 200.00 for pants and 160.00 for a shirt!!! I get cotton tees for under 10.00!!! I’m even finding linen clothing !!! I wish I could buy things from your store but way to pricey for me!!!! Love your videos anyway I just have to shop Walmart or I also thrift vintage and some of these big brand stores and I can’t afford at the thrift!!!

I am 69 years old and I have been shopping at Talbots since my 20's. They always have something, whether I am looking for a corporate suit or now that I am retired polished casual outfits. I also like J Crew, Nordstrom and Ralph Lauren as well. Thank you. Lately I have tried Sezanne, Massimo Duti and Lilly Silk, all are good. I wish they had a physical store to try their items on here in Boston MA.

I am also 69 and have been shopping Talbots for many, many years. Particularly because I’m a petite, and I will only buy clothing proportioned properly for me. I lament Talbots’s decrease in quality. It’s really sad. And their Hollywood style pants that were perfect for me, they no longer make. None of their pants fit me.

At first I was enthusiastic about Talbots but after purchasing a few of their "wool" blazers I became thoroughly disenchanted. The piling began during the first wearing. Just got worse for every single one of them. Too high of a polyester count that overwhelms the wool. A real tacky look for a lot of money. Also I don't like slacks that come up high way on my hip bone - I want coverage when I bend over especially when I was teaching. All the other stores are about the same - not classic, not tailored and cheap materials for a great deal of money. LLBean and Land's End now charge over $112 for a pair of denim ho-hum jeans - yikes!!

Spot on! I’ve been a fan of Talbots for years, classic pieces at good price points. Another one I love is Coldwater Creek. They rose to prominence in the early 2000s, but due to over expansion closed all their brick and mortar stores in the US. They do have a strong catalog influence and are a good choice for ladies over 50 who are not ready for the floral house dress!

I’ve had nice clothing from LL Bean. Their prices are reasonable and they are of good quality. Their main store is located in Maine, so the clothing is mostly aimed toward casual , easily worn clothing. I’ve been really happy with their shoes, sweaters and outer clothing.

Seasalt is a great brand (especially if you like dresses) and they also use older and some curvier models. Similar to Boden but a smidgen cheaper. Dresses are between £60 to £80. Lovely designs and fabrics. Really recommend them.

I have found quite a few good pieces at J.Jill. They are age-appropriate without being staid or matronly and they have a great selection of petite sizes. Their reversible tanks are my favorite foundations, I have one in just about every color! (Loved your comment about grumpy models...they never look like they're enjoying or even like what they're wearing! Very off putting!)

I LOVED NYDJ. We get them here in Germany, high prised, but as long as they "proudly were made in the US", they fitted me perfectly. I have 5 of them. But now they are made in Asia and seem to have another body shape. I stopped purchasing them, they don't fit my body anymore, but the older ones from my closet do still fit me perfectly, so it's not my body which changed. PS: I love Ralph Lauren!!!!! About BODEN: i have some items of Boden in the meantime, but it lasted a little while, as I thought after finding only young models in the katalogs, the garments might not be made for me. I'm 76, still working.

I used to wear NYDJ but now I find that their sizing is off. I’m the same size and measurements but their pants don’t fit as well. You’re probably correct that it’s because they aren’t made in the US now.

Now, I can my focus my attention on purchasing affordable, quality wardrobe pieces. I’m on a fixed budget, so browsing different stores online is a great way to create a ‘wish list’ without actually making a purchase. My goal is to add one or two items whenever my budget allows.

I noticed you mentioned Chicos, but not White House Black Market....I am in my 60's and definitely drawn to some of their classic designs... My problem ...but it's a problem with many lines...is finding long inseam pants. I'm.. 5'9" and the average lengths pants are 1.5 "-2.5" too short for me. Everyone seems to want to make their legs look longer..well I have long legs and and it is nearly impossible to find pants long and even dresses long enough... in nice fabrics ...neutral colors.like cream, beige, camel, putty, are virtually impossible to find in Long lengths. I have plenty of blacks but would love other neutrals. ...without costing a fortune. 15:31

Thank you, this is such a help Deidre - I've made a list! Massimo Dutti is a favourite, and luckily one of our local boutiques does sell some items from the label. At the mid range price points, I would add Gerry Webber (quite good if you are short waisted) and also Hobbs, which has a petite range. I would much prefer to shop in store (and I really miss going to London - rarely been there since Covid ), but online can be a good alternative once you get to know brand sizes. Here in the UK, for various reasons, we do seem to have lost so many stores and some of our favourite brands - it's good to know that there is still a choice out there! .-

Hi, I'm so surprised that Marks and Spencer were not part of your choice. They were out of sync for a good few years but now are spot on with many of their pieces. I love the fit of their jeans and the choice of lengths. I'm 72 and like to use colour to look stylish. I see the idea of neutral pieces but must add a pop of colour otherwise I think 'boring!' Unfortunately, my lifestyle is very casual now and my weight goes up and down a lot, so it is hard to justify a $500 blazer. Definitely agree with your comments on the miserable models vs cheery faced models. Who on earth would consider buying an item worn by someone who looks so miserable wearing it? It’s massively off putting! I am just so surprised no one else has mentioned this, common sense sadly lacking. I feel it’s very influential to see a model looking happy wearing a garment.

Completely agree! Not sure why the focus on youth - I certainly have much more money at 60 than I did at 25. Also, the distribution of sizing in most US stores is ridiculous. Looking at sales racks is a clear indication that whomever decided the distribution of sizes is dreaming. Ann Taylor which as lovely, well made and polished clothing stocks 1-2 size 12s, a overstocks XXS. Almost as if they don't want to sell their clothing to a certain set of women. Do they really not want me to purchase in their stores? Talbots and J Jill I always find the right range of sizes. Seems common sense to me. Have you ever wondered about the difference about a white shirt and a very different one. Yes Deidre, I have thought about it. It's the buttons, one which I experienced 30 yrs ago, when all wore white shirts all 200 of us. Well, I decided to chance the buttons,.. And the possibilities are enormous, They can change an ordinary white shirt in an enormous jewelry, or color or nacre or color ... The buttons indeed are a touch of reflection of match, contrast, .. Pewter buttons, ..semi precious stones, Yes, recycling beautiful buttons on a simple white shirt, why not?

Yes! I have their liquid faux leather moto jacket in black, in fact wearing it right now! I bought it a few years ago. It goes over every top without the sleeves riding up. Best purchase ever. So light weight and I feel super cool and polished in it, lol. I just bough the same jacket in the camel colour a couple of months ago and I’m very happy with it too. A real wardrobe staple! What pieces do you have or suggest. For reference, I’m 62 and 5ft 3 Pear shaped. I love a classic style with a bit of edge or a twist of interest.

Absolutely spot on with your observations on young skinny models modelling clothes in (which we try to imagine on our mature/maturing bodies). It is so difficult to picture us in such items. One company I recently purchased from (I’m a 66yr old, size uk 12 ) is Vardy. It is UK company based and offers seemingly casual based clothing. Talbot’s clothing is shapeless and boxy …. Quality is awful ! Look around the store - no one under 75 in their stores ….They keep laying off people as sales continue to plummet. They need new clothing designers and higher quality materials. Running 50% off sales on everything in the store is poor business planning. They need more seasonal clothing for southern states … no one is buying corduroy or poly filled vests in October when it’s 85 degrees out.

Funny I was just texting my friend tonight about a cheap and surprisingly awesome first haul I received from (please forgive me) Temu. It wasn’t complete rubbish, I’m actually keeping everything. Super surprised! Im in retail for 30 years and I fully understand quality, but I struggle to find that amazing quality anymore. I currently work for another American brand that is similar price point to Talbots and have had to return many things due to quality (a lot of times I just won’t buy it because I can tell it’s not going to wear and wash well). Deirdre I'm from the USA and I really enjoyed seeing the "brands" Vlog. Love knowing the UK stores you like. I don't enjoy buying on line very much. I would much rather try on clothes and see how they hang on my body and feel the quality of the fabric. But I do SHOP on line to see what is new and what I might like. I have some pieces from Nordstroms and J.Crew which I love. One of my favorite stores here is Talbots as I've found that they have my sizes and it's easy to shop as well as buy on-line.

It would be much better to go to the shop and try on the clothes we plan to buy. Unfortunately, I don't live on a big city so I often buy clothes and shoes online. I always read the information about the sizes before the purchase. Recently I bought some good tops and jackets from Mango. Great ideas, thank you. Could I add Cos, Hobbs and Seasalt. The latter is very environmentally friendly, the clothes are modelled on ladies of a certain age and a range of sizes. They sell brilliant wool coats and beautiful knitwear. Well worth looking at. They often have discount codes.

Another terrific video!!! I had recently been hoping you’d post something along these lines. I’d like to suggest Clara Sun Woo liquid leather moto jackets, that do NOT have the usual boxy cut. They are easy to wear and machine washable. I think they are cut for the more mature figure, but retain some edginess. The MSRP is mid-range, but there are usually good sales from Clara Sun Woo and authorized retailers. I’m not sponsored or anything, just want to help others. I’ve also just purchased a London Fog single-breasted maxi trench coat that I can’t say enough good things about. I’m hourglass and this trench shows that off. I like most of the brands you named, except Chico’s, Talbots (except for shoes) and Mango, which uses mostly polyester and acrylic. I avoid those mature brands, J.Jill is another, because of their constant promoting tunic tops and 3/4-sleeves, both of which I hate, they’re aging and frumpy. There are also sizing problems, at least for me. I would add Quince and Theory (US), and the internationally-shipped Lily Silk and Daisy Silk, Equipment, MMlaFleur and Sezane.

why do channels that are geared for "more mature" always recommend higher price products? its like people think that if you are 50+, you must have a decent amount of disposible income. the only way i'm going to be buying any of these brands is if they have a HUGE sale (80%) or if i find them at goodwill or garage sales.

I highly recommend a new company (to me), named Quince. I believe they’re only online (I’m in the US), but if you love cashmere sweaters and silk blouses, this place is for you! At least 1/2 the price or more of other stores. They have no middlemen so are able to pass the lower prices on. The collared camel cashmere sweater I bought is beautiful! The fabric is a nice weight and very soft. I bought one shortsleeved silk shirt in a copper color and was so impressed with the silk and the craftsmanship that I’ve gone back for 2 more. They have cotton sweaters, skirts, dresses, etc. I’m hard to convince on trying new brands, but they’re definitely on my list to go back for more. And no, I’m not affiliated in any way with them, just enthusiastic about the brand.

Mistook ( for women 50-80’s ) Asian; never changes fabric dyes. Never dry clean , ( ALWAYS, cold wash ) never loses color. Can purchase any items months, years apart they still blend well to match. For women not necessarily size 0-12 Can’t beat that with an egg beater lol😅😊Disappointed return even if worn for months no questions asked. What is there not to like!
