For anyone still mulling this beauty over, let me just say that this review sold me on getting one, and even the video doesn't do it justice. "Gorgeous" was the right word. It's hands down the dressiest, and most expensive, watch that I own and I still frequently wear it to just bum around the house because it's so nice to just sit there and turn my wrist, and watch the light dance over all of those little surfaces. 100% do not regret the purchase. Now that takes my breath away. Damn near perfection for me, if they removed that date wheel I'd have pounced on it in an instant, though to their credit it is well integrated. That dial has such a wonderful pop and I must admit I'm a sucker for a combination of Arabic and baton indices. Definitely making my wallet itch. Great review, Jody!

So it seems these 3 smaller 38.5 presage are new for 2020, this was the first I've heard of them. There is also a blue and green version available called the Mojito and Old Clock if anyone is interested. The color and size are really nice but I'm not a fan of the arabics. I'd also finally like a no-date presage, please seiko, will look much better.

Just picked up a nearly new blue version. Looks stunning on and off the wrist, although expensive for the movement it has in it. Mine had a beat error of 0.7 and was running at +72spd. I had the back off and sorted, but come on Seiko, not good enough

Glad I was able to share this one with you Jody. I hadn't seen any decent reviews online yet so wanted to get it out there for people to see. It's funny, the date window on this doesn't really bother me at all. That said I then I thought this and I've been looking at a lot of no-date watches recently. So I guess a no-date version of this would've been my preference too. As for hardlex, Seiko needs to move on.

I bought the mojito recently and something all the reviewers are missing as they only review watches in sunlight. Is the mojito in dim light the face appears very dark almost black. So with adding black strap it makes a good dress watch with a black looking face (in low light) when it does catch the light, people notice something different about the face as the light glints of the facets of the face it does become a good talking point once they see the pattern and the actual colour of the face. I don't know if this is the same with the negroni. These can be dressed up and down with straps making them really versatile.

Looks really great, I dont think the lack of lume really is a problem. I have just bought a domed sapphire crystal to put in my snk805 for £10, I would guess that Seiko could get them for far less than that. There really is no excuse for not fitting sapphire.

Oh my gosh! Just widening the field of view, showing more of your arms below and raising your head more to the top of the frame COMPLETELY changed the feel! You no longer look short, and your studio no longer feels cramped. Bra-freaking-vo! Love it love it love it. Oh... The watch is nice too =)

If you’re having a Negroni - Hemingway’s favorite drink by the way - stir it, don’t shake it, and pour it over a big ice cube in a rocks glass or up in a martini glass, no ice. Garnish with an orange peel. You can make a somewhat less robust version by substituting Aperol for Campari. This is a sipper, with layers of complexity. Cheers!

I hate the focus on "specs". How many people really need 200m WR, scratch proof titanium, etc. I also feel like the focus on high power reserve is an indicator that some people just have too many watches... I don't know, maybe I'm just being grumpy, but as a collector of vintage watches, I'm used to small watches with low WR, delicate cases, and no lume. I feel like the obsession with "specs" and "value" is exactly the reason that there are so many identical Submariner homages out there... I like this watch a lot, I think it's great to see a nice little dress(ish) watch from Seiko.

hi Jody, I'm confused as to which way the strap is supposed to be attached....the way you're wearing it shows the seiko logo upside down, if the logo shows correctly, the long part has to be attached at the 12 o'clock pos., which doesn't seem right an looks strange...all the best from Berlin, John (love your channel...))

Gotta love a/the Negroni! Stunner! I agree - they've been a bit big for a classic style until this 38.5. Two gripes though: The Seiko logo is too large/prominant and the Presage logo is totally unnecessary (though not actually hideous like a Prospex one). Then, there's the domed Hardlex. Hmm, suppose its a dressy piece, but my wife wears a Bellini and her's is scratched to hell. Now, she's not exactly 'careful' with her watches, but I've never seen her hammering nails with it either... I wonder is there's an aftermarket sapphire upgrade? With that you'd need no more watch.

I just bought it. Thanks for the review. I compare it to the red Rado Golden Horse, and this was 1/4 the price. Holding it next to the Alpinist, it's comparable in size and dial,a bit dressier. I like the clasp but don't love the strap.

I picked up 2 different black dial Zen Garden watches. Sapphire crystal, different textured dials with ivory handsets. Seiko can make some stunners. Too bad they love their Hardlex. Sapphire only for me... Saw these cocktail times on a Japanese site. I think they had a turquoise and a salmon dial version, too.

As a long time Seiko fan, I’ve recently found a love of micro brands. You definitely get more for your money. I’ve realised how formulaic Seiko are. When are you going to review the “homegrown” Second hour Gin clear divers, I’m intrigued, Swiss movement, premium build quality, but I’m a big fan of your impartial reviews, so I’d like to hear your thoughts in these before I commit to buy !

There’s a numeral every 60 degrees on the dial if you don’t include the date which means it’s symmetrical.

I really like this one, being a sucker for burgundy recently, due to this new fetish I bought an orient kamasu red which ive nicknamed the vampire! The size of this one is suberb! The dial is smashing and I really dont mind that they used the same hands as the sarbs. Fully agree with you about the price... should be 100-150 bucks cheaper!

Well, this is much much better than new disgusting line of Seiko 5kx, at least this watch is not trying to be something that it's not. I knew that the Seiko is still able to make a normal watch, not some funky honky tonk not-diver not-dress not-nothing watch like Seiko 5. I would say that this is a real affordable every day gentleman's casual watch. A dial is beautiful. Good job Jody

I don't get the hatred for hardlex-- I've never broken one but I've shattered a sapphire. I like this, strap could be a bit narrower (imho would be better proportioned) & wish they'd offer alternatives without the ugly & completely unnecessary date complication (surely folk aren't that forgetful they need it more than once a day 🤔!!!) Shattered sapphire was 60mph into a lorry on my bike, so pretty exceptional circumstances admittedly (watch totally destroyed when it was eventually found , bike destroyed and I very nearly was too) & my Seikos have all been divers so the crystal is protected by the bezel I guess... & yes, obviously I'd rather have sapphire. Seiko really does know how to make a beautiful dial. My wallet is happy that this watch has a strap that wouldn't fit my arm, and that it costs more than it should. Otherwise I would be scouring the internet for the best price, and adding it to my collection. Since my current watch case is full, I would have to buy another, which would mean I would have a case with empty spots, and that leads to even more watches (to restore symmetry). By the way, nice new background. The unusual shelf behind you is quite nice. Also, you really need to do a "State of the T-shirt collection" video sometime.

It's nice, but I prefer the blue moon cocktail time. Cheaper, I prefer the classic cocktail time pattern, just as thin (if not thinner if I recall correctly) and the color is electric. I totally agree though that your last cocktail time with the power reserve was way too thick and that the 38.5mm is nice compared to 40mm of the bluemoon. The red is intriguing too.

Gotta agree Seiko makes the best dials at this price point. You can get the same effect in a 100 dollar Seiko 5. I have an SNK603, which has a pretty similar dial texture, though it's blue.

Love to see new Seiko models coming out in smaller case sizes. And no argument that guilloche dial is beautiful. Shame it doesn't come across better in photos. Many people shopping online are going pass it right over without ever knowing what a stunner it is. Of the three color ways, I am least fond of the red model. The ice blue seems a better match for the silver arabics and hour markers. And the green variant contrasts nicely with gold markers. Quite the surfeit of holes on that strap for far smaller wrists, no? It appears to be designed to accommodate some truly diminutive wrists A subtle hint that Seiko considers this a unisex watch perhaps?

Tell me anything 40 to 45 seems to be the sweet Spot But the nice part is I could get away with a little bigger to sometimes
