The problem that I have with CS is that they make SO MUCH JUNK that when they come out with some REALLY nice knives, it's hard to take them serious as a quality knife maker, and put down the kind of cash that some of their high end products demand.

Awesome video! I would add the Voyager M/L/XL to this list too. I love cold steel. They make more or less the strongest lock of any knife maker, and they still make plenty of Amazing and usable working man knives, as well as some over the top, yet still functional models... People gauk at the Espada XL. It is huge, but you wont find a more compact machete/bowie type pocket sword anywhere else, let alone one that can hold over 700 lbs, 4 inches from the lock without breaking...

While I agree it is possible to close the Cold Steel AD-15 without having fingers in the blade pathway, you need to be careful not to get your fingers too far around the lock bar. That is, it would be easy to get your fingers, even sausage fingers, too far behind the lock bar and make a very effective guillotine.

There are a lot of 'personalities' in the KZbin knife community, and I enjoy many of them, but I find those others really make me appreciate the low-key straightforwardness and insightful expertise that David brings to these presentations. To me, he comes off as a knowledgeable presenter; not some pandering shill. (like a few others.. who shall go unnamed😎🙄) To be fair though, it must be a fine line in this business. Anyway, Cheers mate! Thanks for the info, and the chill. 👍

March 2023 look back: I think they should have kept the Pro Lite Clip point and tanto, but the spear point hole opener never appealed to me. The Air Lite has been an outstanding sleeper addition to their line up. The Luzon stands out for it’s lightweight 3.4 ounces. In this year’s all black version it is gorgeous and yet a bargain. The Crawford 1 doesn’t “feel” like a Cold Steel because design is by Crawford (the younger) not Demko. It excels for thickness and height of blade, couple with a surprisingly thin handle with rubber traction inserts. Green edition is as ugly as an alligator but the all black handle scales version tone it down. Still, that blade is blindingly polished shiny and needs a more subdued finish. Where’s the Grik, I thought it was already out in 2019. Once you understand it (it’s a design that screams for patience), it all makes sense. The 1911 panders to to fidget crowd, but mine is very good with Amazon boxes - very serviceable but utterly boring. The 2.5” (2.7?) Kiradashi is a low key travel/utility knife with an under the radar reverse tanto. Finally, the Verdict is the new Medium Tanto with a low keyed traditional handle . PS - the 2.5” Engage in 4116 has no defensive aspirations whatsoever, a humble appearance, but stiff side plates and the sliciest thin blade since the Rat 2. You didn’t even mention the 4” Voyagers which are real under appreciated inexpensive work horses. Maybe it’s time for a video update, four years later???

Does anyone know where I can find a deep pocket clip for a cold steel knife?.
@paulminervino82984 жыл бұрын
Cold Steel makes very good knives but many of the sheathes for their fixed blade knives are garbage. As an example, their "Double Agent" is an excellent Karambit style fighting knife but its sheath is all but worthless; you need TWO HANDS to deploy it and there is no belt clip! Also, some of their belt clips snap off the body of the sheath which you may not even realize until it's too late to still expect it to be lying on the ground/floor sometime later. I've written and called several times but their R&D won't respond and are out of touch with their public. So, there are other knife companies out there.
@ibelieveicansoar4 жыл бұрын
The Double Agent’s sheath lacks a clip b/c it is designed to be a neck knife. Get creative with lashing it to a belt using its cord holes. (I have a Double Agent II.) Yes, I would buy a sheath with a clip if one were available.

I swear I’m not being rude or sarcastic but - why is the tri ad lock so important? Do other locks fail a lot? Should I be nervous about my liner locks?
@knifecenter5 жыл бұрын
Not at all. It is mostly bragging rights. Cold Steel's customers appreciate the added strength. It is like buying a car with a V8 rather than the economy engine.
@mdubb4855 Жыл бұрын
Go watch the Joe X destruction tests and you can see how the various locks fail. Cold Steel TrAds hold up very well, even their liner locks. That’s why sometimes they can’t be dramatically snapped open and one hand closed. They design for safety not playing around at home or job.
