I've been loving these colour theory videos! I learned colour theory as an acrylic and watercolour painter and I was looking for validation for how to break out of the "recipe mindset" introduced in Episode 1. Those recipes are handy for making whole armies but even then they sell you so many paints you don't need! Three highlight colours??? Four skin tones??? Are you kidding me!? Applying these concepts should save tons of money!

Great Job Roman. The lesson was logical & easy to follow. Where most people have pants arranged according to the hue, I have mine according to purpose. I have all my USAF & USN colours together & NATO colours together & all my Soviet/Russian colours together for example. So when I'm building an AFV or Aircraft kit I can quickly find the correct colours according to the source material. Unfortunately, scale modelling is more about replication than creativity.

Again a great video in these series. I watched different video of this topic and read some books about but this makes it very clear. Also the "homework" is very good to learn. As you mentioned browns are difficult to mix. As colours with a special tonality like for example "Ice Yellow", you know it's yellow but also not ;-). Thanks again for making this.

When you say "contrast range" do you mean "value contrast"? I don't think contrast range is a common term in art or other fields. That being said, it's not difficult to understand what you be by that term.
@Hudston
@Hudston 9 ай бұрын
Not to put words into Roman's mouth, but I think he's using "contrast range" specifically because he's referring to more than just value but doesn't want to overwhelm us with too much art jargon right away. Value is usually the most important and obvious because we're trying to paint light and shadow, but you'll probably also want to incorporate some contrast of hue and saturation to help you describe the type of material you are painting, imply the lighting of the environment it is in and even just express your own artistic style (I'm looking at you, Craftworld Studios!). I might be wrong here, but it sounds like Roman plans to go into more detail in a future video anyway so I look forward to finding out!

True, the pace of these videos and the series and how the content slowly builds up is based on my experience on how to take beginners to advanced painters and even make professionals understand more about painting later on. It will take its time, but on the other hand I am always happy about "correction" as I am not a native tongue. In this case I learned from twenty years of experience that the "contrast range" helps people in the start. We will grow together on top of this . Thank you both!
