Hello! Welcome back to my channel! So recently, I have been asked a few times if going grey affects the colours in your colour palette, and the answer is usually yes, it does. As a result, I decided to create this video to help you determine which colours will work for you and which ones to avoid.
Like anything related to colour, I do not believe we all fall into the 12 traditional palettes of 'cool summer', 'warm autumn', etc. Many of us fall predominantly into one of those palettes but slightly into another one, too. This can change even more once we decide to embrace the grey.

Loved this video! I went gray in my early 50s because I got sick of the monthly expense (& chemicals) to keep my hair colored. My mother grayed early, & eventually to lovely/ striking white. Beautiful silver kept peeking through for me & I wanted to finally feel authentic. One relative told me: “You can’t possibly go gray - you have teenage daughters & you’ll look old!” I said screw that! I’ve never looked back & love my short, spikey cut. I have noticed, however that black sometimes looks a bit harsh now & I gravitate toward charcoal & navy. When I was dark brunette (pale blue eyes, cool skin undertones) I was a winter palette, now I’m wandering into some lighter cool tones. It’s fun to continually evolve in both fashion & life. Aging - & the wisdom it brings - is a gift!

I have in the past - when I was dark brunette. I’m a hybrid now - some pastels look great (blues) & some wash me out. If the pastel has a lot of white in it (icy shades) as opposed to warmer undertones then it makes my face/ complexion come alive. But I can still rock cobalt, navy, blue-based red, fuschia, deep purple, etc. So I’m a hybrid!🤣 And I’ll keep playing w/ colors.

I’m a hairdresser, I had a lot of negative feedback when I started growing out my color. Now, I’ve never gotten more compliments. Even from the people that said don’t do it! 😂

I ve had grey hair since I was 30. I am 68 now. There has not been a day when women would ask me how I could accept my grey hair or others trying to convince me to colour them. I have always felt confident with my grey hair and I am happy to see that women feel the same now . Yes it is important to wear the right clothes the right coulours and have the right attitude to avoid looking old.

@@capsuleclosetstylist Pretty much. I'm about 1/3 grown out with brown dyed hair lightened to not look so weird. Pretty shocking to me at this stage. Will probably still be till next year till it's all my own color. I'm a warm autumn so clothes are confusing and I've been swayed to cooler shades because of the hair, which has made the contrast with my skin color worse. So this video was so helpful.

Hi really enjoyed your video. I was only just thinking about everything you discussed. I’m 61yo l am quite silver now use be dark brown. lm glad your doing these videos as lm basically wearing navy all time but l had noticed it’s a bit dark, so l thought maybe l need to get my winter colours in their softer hues. I quite like the summer palette too now. I’m big believer in solid basics but even my style has altered and lm looking for softer more flowing outfits. Thanks again. Kym😊

So true. I went grey (easy to do with short hair) after I retired 6 years ago. My grey is strange. It is predominantly white and pewter with warm here and there from the natural hair still in it (I was always golden blonde as a kid and my hair darkened to dirty blonde and then a dark golden brown before I greyed). I find some autumn colors work on me as well as a few spring. Some winter does as well. I fall into summer with my skin and eyes and lean towards more muted and true colors. Darks don’t really do me any favors except black - which I use with white and tan as my main neutrals. I have a difficult time with browns that look good on me. 😬 But I agree wholeheartedly with this video. As we age our hair and skin really makes a difference in the colors we wear. And I love color. 🥰❤ And no, I’ve never had an analysis. I just go with what makes me feel good and look good. Maybe I should have my colors done? 🤔

Yes this is why even if you are not grey some colour analysis colour palettes do not work (in my humble opinion). In the last week I have worked with three ladies (one of which was grey) and none of them fell into the standard colour analysis palettes. I had to swap a few colours in and out for all of them. To be honest if you look around you in a crowded street it is hard to se how all of those people can fit perfectly into 12 categories perfectly. Most people are a combination of cool and warm leaning towards one side or the other. If you have gone grey, it usually means you go a little cooler, but not always. I colored my dark brown hair for decades and finally decided to embrace going grey at age 60. After a year or so, it's all grown out and looks great but now it seems like my natural hair is getting darker again!

I much prefer my grey hair to the previous natural drab brown. Years ago I had a colour analysis done and was typed as an "early autumn," but find that the earth tones don't work for me anymore. Strangely enough, black was given as one of my neutrals, and I still have that as one of my wardrobe staples along with peach (my skin tone) and teal (my "high" shade). My colour analyst also said I could use "all the metals," which is great because -- surprise! -- I am leaning a lot more towards the white metals! A few years ago, I purchased an outfit in burgundy, and whenever I wear it, I always get compliments.

Can you please do a video on how to tastefully accentuate one’s eyebrows when greying and/or having lost the outer third (hypothyroidism so common at this stage of life). Something on how to choose glasses that best flatter a woman of a certain age would also be great

I am a winter and when I was younger, warm tones made me look 10 years older. Now at 59 I find I can wear cream as well as white, as my hair is now mid-grey.

Yes embracing the grey definitely does adjust your palette. Sometimes more for some than others.

I retired from teaching 7 years ago and went from dark brunette to stark white!! Since then, I have purged my wardrobe and find I look better with this hair color than before. I find black tops are better on me now; the contrast looks good. It never looked right as a brunette. I love black but it isn't in my neutral cool summer pallette. I can't break up with black... My favorite colors are in the blue/aqua family but I often default to black. Navy blue and gray are new in my wardrobe (both go well with blue) My problem is hairstyle. I like the photos in your examples. Any chance you could show specific styles for those of us with white hair?

However I suggest you check out Donna May London she is a friend of mine and has lots of content similar to mine but in relation to hair and make up. It is very likely that the colour palette for clothes you had as a brunette is not the same as it would be now. Have you had a colour analysis since turning white?

I don't think I could ever go gray. My eyes are dark golden brown, my skin is fair warm beige. I keep my hair colored with golden brown so I can wear my warm browns, mossy greens, rust and tomato red.

Dark brown eyes, pale warm skin tone, whitish silver hair - love my newish hair color - cannot wear really dark brown, still can wear all olives, mosses, khakis, navy, greys, & VIOLET & purples. You may be pleasantly surprised.
