Stunt car racer was one of my last c64 titles before switching to Amiga around that time. It still has replay value. Definitely still a favorite

1989 definitely seems like the year quite a few people done exactly the same, I’m looking forward to revisiting ‘89 with the Amiga once I finish the C64 ones!

Our family skipped the C64 straight for the Amiga. Batman is a flipping brilliant game. Good rundown!
@Retro_B811 ай бұрын
Ah mate I used dream of owning an Amiga for years when I still had my C64, I think it was ‘92 maybe or even ‘93 by the time I finally got one! It’s about time I started doing a few more Amiga videos! Yeah Batman was super fun, Ocean definitely had a good template for their movie licences!

The last year I owned a C64 before getting the Amiga 500 Batman pack. Probably peak C64 games for me, especially Batman, Cabal and Stunt Car Racer.
@Retro_B811 ай бұрын
Ah I was another 3 years before I was lucky enough to finally get an Amiga, luckily my brother got my C64!so I could still go back to it every now and again! That Batman pack is pretty legendary, even I remember it and I didn’t even get that one haha! Cabal entertained me for a very long time, I loved the fact you could destroy the scenery, it’s probably the first game I remember playing being able to do that so it always sticks in my mind

Stunt Car Racer was great. I could never master the Drawbridge track though. No matter how hard I tried, I'd always end up going off the drawbridge when it was up, and then crashing.
@Retro_B811 ай бұрын
I just adore stunt car racer, oh the drawer bridge, that brings back mixed memories! Seemed to me when you went full pelt with turbo I always failed but if I went slower I did sometimes manage it, am I thinking the right track? Class game, my favourite racer on the C64
@lurkerrekrul11 ай бұрын
@@Retro_B8 The drawbridge is the one that goes up and down. If you went off it when it was up, you'd go flying a really long distance and crash. If you went off it when it was down, it would only be a small jolt.

So many great games for the Commodore 64 in the year 1989 😺👍🕹️. I still have TOOBIN' as a tape version in a compilation called TNT 😺👍🕹️. I bought it from a local retro game store in Tikkurila, Vantaa (Finland 🇫🇮). I also have the tape version of ROBOCOP (boxed), but it wouldn't load on my Datassette 😹.

Wasn’t it just Ari! Toobin is such good two player fun, have you ever tried to adjust the azimuth on the datasette? It’s definitely worth a try mate

The evolution of the C64 games when you look back is amazing. Just got better every year. Loved Stunt Car Racer, by the time it was released,I’d worked all the school holidays to save up for an Amiga. So I only played it on that. Might have to buy the Amiga mini thing to play some of these games again. Great channel, keep up the good work. 👍

Ah wow, thanks mate that’s some very kind words indeed, I’m really enjoying making this series as it’s always the same ten or so games that make lists but these are where my C64 nostalgia is at so I hope there’s a few in there that people don’t always talk about or even remember! Oh, the Amiga mini is great I love mine, not so good if you need keyboard commands like gunship 2000’etc but you can plug a USB keyboard in. Hopefully a fully working keyboard version will be announced very soon 🤞🏻

@@Retro_B8 I've just tried Cyberdyne Warrior, classy game! But as you said, really hard! I thought I'd lost a life then found it was game over altogether! While browsing other games under 'C' (on Lightning Modz console) I found Cybertron Mission, which is pretty cool, elements of Berzerk plus more exploring and things.

I think C64 version of Shinobi runs smoother than than the Master System version, despite the limited color pallette. I love Toobin - I've only ever played the arcade version, but the c64 version looks great!

The drivng/flying sections of Batman on the C64 are £1.99 Mastertronic quality despite coming out 2 years after Buggy Boy perfect conversion so I wouldn't class that as 'best' anything myself. Scrolling platformers are ten a penny on the C64.
@Retro_B811 күн бұрын
It’s a completely subjective view of my own, myself and countless others would disagree with your view, as many including you disagree with mine. I enjoy it and overall think this game is infact one of the better games of the year. Thanks for watching.
@madcommodore11 күн бұрын
@@Retro_B8 Like I said, Buggy Boy existed 2 years earlier, no excuse for the driving game section to be 2D. Almost every gamer I know also finds the 2D sections frustrating putting aside lack of technical sophistication, this is just compared to other 2D scrolling racing games. But like you say if you liked it then no problem, as long as people liked what they spent their money on.
