Philippines 🇵🇭 deserves Number 1. Not in this video. More reasons why. 1 Pronunciation. Their speech 💬 is influenced by Spain 🇪🇸. The Spanish language is pronounced well. When Americans brought English to the Philippines 🇵🇭, Filipinos already had clear pronunciation. 2 Use of English in the arts especially in music. Many Asians already know that The Philippines 🇵🇭 has great singers from Morissette Amon to Zephanie Dimaranan. Their English sounds as if it is sung by Americans. Underrated for English: South Africa 🇿🇦. I am not a fan of Charlize Theron. Yet, her English is clear.

This ranking is a great reminder that English proficiency isn’t just about smaller European countries-it’s fantastic to see larger and diverse countries like India, Nigeria, Germany, and especially the Philippines among the top. These nations show that English skills flourish in places where it bridges cultures and connects millions.

I disagree -- Ph should be no. 1 as they're a BPO - Call center capital of the world as 90% of the population can speak English while India--there are certain areas with no English In Ph even in remote areas can speak good English.😊
@r.layug5821Ай бұрын
90%? Where did you get that data?
@iamedyboyАй бұрын
It seems you didn’t fully understand the video. Population plays a significant role in this ranking, which is why India-a country with 1.4 billion people-is ranked highly. Even if only 10% of India's population speaks English, that's still more than the entire population of the Philippines. Singapore has an English proficiency of 80%, much higher than the Philippines at 60%, but it ranks 15th because it has a population of only around 5 million. Try rewatching the video. If you still don’t understand, it might be an English comprehension issue.

No offense for opinion of yours but when it comes to the highest English fluency percentage, only in Anglo-Saxon circle countries(like United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada, Australia, Ireland etc.)have the highest English fluency percentage of speakers regardless of population numbers since they are former English colonies, only those with Secondary language countries(like India, Pakistan, Nigeria, the Philippines etc.)have the lower fluency percentage of English speakers since it is conflict with their respective national language and English is only used in commercial and professional communication not as its cultural lifestyle of the locals. I think you should study and research carefully of this kind of case...

Thank you for the comment. The "Population-Based English Proficiency Analysis" evaluates and ranks countries based on the size of their English-speaking populations. It constitutes to 60% of the criteria. This section is a combination of two key data points--so it's not just about population. We only accounted the %tage of the population that's considered by the EF EPI indicators as "English Efficient" where the Philippines has 60% versus India's 30% only. Here's our methodology for this section: Total Population: This is the raw population of each country. English Proficiency Percentage: The proportion of the population estimated to be proficient in English. By multiplying these two, we find the English-speaking population for each country. Then, to standardize and allow comparisons across countries, we normalize this population number on a 100% scale using a set maximum (1.5 billion). In summary, this section helps us see not only the level of English proficiency but also the potential global influence and reach of English speakers in each country based on sheer numbers.
@rotneder2814Ай бұрын
Looking at these data, I agree with you that the Philippines outperforms India in individual scores across criteria. (Biases aside, magaling talaga ang mga Pinoy pag dating sa English, period.) Let's take a closer look. 10% EF EPI Score (Philippines: 8.6 vs. India: 7.2) 15% IELTS Normalized Score (11.33 vs. 10.33) 15% Literacy Rate (14.7 vs. 11.65), 10% English Proficiency (60% vs. 30%). However, India’s 30% English proficiency within a population of 1.5 billion suggests an estimated half a billion people in India can communicate in English. This ranking values that scale, as it highlights not just proficiency but also the global impact of English presence in a country. Larger populations of proficient English speakers play a critical role in global communication, economic influence, and cultural exchange, making countries like India and the Philippines major players on the world stage. Including population in the ranking reflects where English truly has a large presence and measurable impact worldwide. While countries like the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, or Singapore may perform better on average, their global English influence is not as substantial as that of countries with larger populations, like India and the Philippines.

Iñ the Philippines you can't get a high paying office job if you don't hurdle interviews conducted in English. In the Philippines school English is taught from grade 4 in elementary grades up to college.

That's not exactly a 100% true. I once applied for a job in a call center and I don't have any problems talking in English since I love talking to foreigners. I was interviewed separately by 3 managers of different accounts but I ended up rejected by the 1st 2 managers. But on the 3rd interview I change my style of answering questions that is were I got accepted. The change was I realized during the first 2 interviews, I talk a lot, answering every questions with longer descriptions. But on the 3rd interview I only answered most of the questions with yes or no or just with a simple 1 or 2 sentence reply.

This is the POV of an American. Philippines 🇵🇭 should be Number 1. I am an American in my hometown San Francisco 🌉. I meet many Filipinos and other foreigners where English is a 2nd or 3rd language. Not in this video. The Number 1 nation which uses American English outside of the USA 🇺🇸 is The Philippines 🇵🇭. Philippine English is easier for Americans like me to understand than British 🇬🇧 English or English from the other Commonwealth nations. India 🇮🇳. I cannot understand some of them because of their accents. This is why I downgrade them on English. Australia 🇦🇺 and New Zealand 🇳🇿 get more attention and higher rankings. But, figuring out some of the vowels is confusing 🤔 😕!! Underrated. South Africa 🇿🇦. Vowels are pronounced well. The accent is clear for me and other Americans. Naturally, I prefer Canadian 🇨🇦 English over other dialects of English: Canada 🇨🇦 is the neighbor Up North. Easy access!! Clear pronunciation. The slang and spelling are somewhat understandable for Americans. I have no ranking for Number 2 and thereafter. Some details are on the pinned comments.

This is a very good ranking, but it overweights adjustments for size. I don't think India with only a 30% proficiency rate should rank that high as it means more difficulty communicating with the average member of the population. Conversely, Singapore should really be higher and is penalized too much for its small size.

All filipinos who have access to education both in the urban and rural places (remote areas) can comprehend english very well. As long as there is a school there, English is taught from grade school to high school. They might not be able to speak straight or as fluent as native but they could speak the language. Most of them are just afraid to be judged cause majority of Filipinos are judgemental. 😂 They will point out every mistake that you'll make when speaking the language.
