I had the same exact problem as you had in holding the pick for almost 10 years! It was so frustating, but I wasn't able to figure out where I was wrong, and being a soloist mostly plaing metal music made things even worst! I was asking to friends, trying to find videos on picking techniques, but nothing worked. Once I was quite down about that thing and I asked God to let me understand where the problem was, and suddenly I found a video of Paul Gilbert explaining few exercises, and in this video he explains that he had the same problem as me and you had! So I changed the way of holding the pick not to the tip of the index finger but to its side, and thank God I've improved rapidly from that day! And now I want to learn some country because it's amazing!

You are such a great teacher.. if i were in your area i would pay for your lessons. Being extremely adhd it's often hard for me to find teachers that can teach me in a way that i understand and remember. Ive learned more from your videos then I learned in 100's of $ of lessons. I was a drummer for 10 years and when i moved into an apartment i decided id like to learn guitar to express the music in me with out taking space and its easier to sing with. Learning how to play the music i feel is so rewarding after months of practice. I have to say your videos helped tremendously, you certainly have a gift! Keep up the good work. Sharing your knowledge and talents and helping others and having a great time going it.. im inspired! Thank you, god bless! -Rock N CaROLL

This is so freaking addictive and enjoyable to play on the guitar. Actually it's such great enjoyment that I played this for 5 hours without a break. Is it common to play the eight notes straight or is it ok to play it slightly shuffled too sometimes? Thank you :)

Hi great vid..simple and to the point...your "pick U D U" explanation is great...I have to disagree with one of your viewers (pagen gods) who says he plays with his fingers so can't apply this....I "thumb and strum (with the back of my fingers) and this vid fits that to a tee...I "Pick" with my thumb " (All down strokes of course) use the back of my fingers for D and brush back with either nail or finger pad for U...as I also do a bit of Travis picking, for any other single notes in the patterns I just use my fingers as necessary...More strum patterns and connecting licks/runs please...great stuff

Nice! It's pretty amazing how smooth the bluechip picks sound...especially when you find the sweet spot at the right angle.
