So glad I found this video! I have a 4 and 6 year old we will be starting in the fall this coming year. I’ve been really drawn to the Charlotte mason philosophy. So I was originally leaning towards A gentle Feast but a friend told me about HOD and have fell in love. Such an informative video. Thank you!!

Love your homeschooling content!! I am looking for more secular home learning programs, but this was very helpful and informational!

Wow, The Lord brought your video into my algorithm. I heard of HOD curriculum yesterday, for the first time ever. I’m a work from home mama with two littles and I want to homeschool my children so badly and hearing you say that we can do this really spurred me on. Thank you!!

You can do it! It’s not easy but with structure and the right attitude it can be done!

Thank you for making this video. There is not much content about this company. I’m very heavily towards using it this fall for the first time. I was jumping back and forth between using Ambleside Online or A Gentle Feast. Basically planning on using AGF but I still just wasn’t settled on it. Then I started looking at HOD and ordered a catalog and after looking at the book lists and whatnot I feel like I have peace and this is what I want to do. I don’t like that AGF doesn’t show you what books you are going to use. With HOD the age groups line up perfectly for my 2 younger kids to work together and then my 2 older kids. It just feels right in a way that I didn’t feel with AO or AGF but still praying about it. ❤

This is the only KZbin comment I've ever made just to say- thank you for being so thorough while walking through the books. It is very helpful.

I enjoyed your review. I actually watched the entire video without fast forwarding 😄 Am curious are you still using heart of dakota? We started with pre k then moved onto my fathers world. But thinking about trying heart of dakota out for 1st grade.

Thank you! We switched to Peaceful Press now that my middle daughter is in kindergarten to save time but we absolutely loved HOD and miss it! I wish they made a family-style curriculum!

I wanted to do HoD but can't afford their curriculum.😅 It's definitely one of the spendier family-style curriculums.

Thanks for such a great review! I’m so excited about this! My oldest will also be in 1st next year. You mentioned you do some of it with your 4 year old. What you do together? And how difficult to you think it will be to use this curriculum with both when you have both one in K and 2nd grade? I know their website mentions it, but I don’t see how those ages would line up, and I imagine it all has to be very parent led still.

I don’t think it will be too bad but only time and trying it out will tell! I may only end up following some of the curriculum and not all and just buying the guide and doing for sure the history/literature stuff but probably doing our own Bible verse memory and morning basked type stuff as a family and maybe science as a family too. I love HOD though especially for beginners because seeing how it all goes together has given me confidence that I could also piece things together too

Thanks so much for making this video! I’m strongly considering getting this level for my 6yr old boy in first grade next year. I really appreciate that you went over each aspect. 2 questions: I’m curious whether the curriculum follows the seasons/holidays at all? For example, going over thanksgiving history and fall science activities in October and November or Presidents’ Day and spring science ideas in Feb/March ? Also, I am already using All About Reading for phonics and reading but would I also need something else for language arts that goes beyond learning to read?
@HomeschoolGlue2 жыл бұрын
From what I remember, no it doesn’t. It is meant to be started at any time. I used Brighter Day Press’ Thanksgiving and Christmas guides
@HomeschoolGlue2 жыл бұрын
And no- you can use any phonics/reading program!
@TiffanyAlaniz2 жыл бұрын
I am so thankful for your thorough explanation. We already have a math curriculum that we love so I was glad to hear that we could continue to use it. I have always peiced together my favorite curriculums but your explanation of the cohesive approach has me intrigued. We don't use the good and the beautiful because of the Mormon origins so I would need to supplement language arts in a different way. Thank you for this video! I have been watching your videos for years and am so glad you made the jump to homeschooling. You are a wonderful advocate for it. Keep up the awesomeness Sarah!

I'm glad this was helpful for you! Yes - you can definitely use any math as well as Language Arts/phonics program! The Good and the Beautiful is what we chose separate from Heart of Dakota - the Heart of Dakota options are totally different.

It's actually not just written by a Mormon. It's written and checked by people from different denominations actually. They address this concern on their website. So from what I've read you shouldn't need to worry. Just covers shared basics such as mentions Jesus and God is good etc. :)

I was commenting to ask this. I am considering HOD or MFW and also joining a classical co op. Did you feel it was too much to do both? All the memorization work and different approaches to learning give me pause since we plan to follow a Charlotte Mason style of education. Would love to hear your experience with this :)
