Love it for the fall/winter seasons here in NYC. I prefer colors that mirror the Spring/Summer season once it gets warmer. Navy blue all year round though.

Really could do with charcoal for my next suit, never really owned one & if I can get it in herringbone then I definitely will 😂 but won't get anything from s&m until I'm earning a bit more and gained weight so I'm happy waiting

A Charcoal suit is the 1 suit to have if you only need a suit a few times per yr. It's arguably more versatile than the other wheelhouse colors, ( med grey, light grey, navy, or cadet blue). The herringbone creates subtle pattern which adds visual interest. The tailoring and fit is on point! Would love to see a comparison / before and after tailoring OTR 46 and how it compares to this one. I agree that 11-11.7 is mid rise and a full 12-13 is going to rectify any dreaded shirt triangle situation that most affordable OTR suits / SC seem to have.

A ‘Plain Front Pant’ hater? Oh, my! Don’t pleated pants amplify the mid-section. Something to avoid if you have excess. Maybe with jacket on it doesn’t matter. I enjoy your content, thank you.
@v_r_
@v_r_ 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your kind words, Andres. I’m a huge “plain front pants” hater and I’m not hiding that fact at all. Pleated pants do not amplify your midsection at all, au contraire it gives you even more room due to the excess fabric when you need it like when you’re sitting down for example and they stay flat when you’re standing. What amplifies someone’s midsection has more to do with the trousers rise as most men have too short of a rise and wear their pants under their belly as opposed to at their belly button. A pleated high rise trousers is the 6-packless man’s best friend. I should know since I am one.

My guy says he wouldnt be caught dead in flat front pants. Similar sentiments were shared for loafers and suits ;) I'll give you another year before you are ordering flat front pants from spier and mackay. The charcoal suit looks good. I purchased one of their off the rack charcoal suits. It's sharkskin and I got it at a decent price. It's my more formal suit...well mostly for funerals heh I also like the jacket you're wearing. The lapels are a dead spier and mackay give away. Spier and mackay is a treasure...i hope they stay in business for years....but not so much that I want everyone else wearing what I wear haha.
@v_r_
@v_r_ 4 жыл бұрын
Oh hell no! You can’t compare those 2. Wearing loafers was just a matter of extending my sartorial palette, if you will. Flat front pants is something that I used to wear prior to discovering Classic Menswear and there’s no turning back for me. That’s like wearing cuffless trousers and skinny lapels and belts instead of suspenders. Those things will NEVER happen again.

I certainly respect your opinion regarding wedding “attire”, however I disagree with parts of the argument. I do think that you should steer towards darker colored suits but also think items like “brown shoes” can be worn tastefully. Point being, if you understand the rules of style, you can know which to follow and which are acceptable to be broken. Beyond that, I appreciate your videos and certainly have gained some useful knowledge. Keep grinding sir!

I missed if you mentioned what the charcoal suit was made of. You said it was 370 gr. but is it also 100% wool? I love the idea of having a suit that could work year-round and be very versatile. I live in Houston Texas where it is super hot for the majority of the year so a lot of my sportcoats are either 100% linen or have some linen woven into the blend to try to keep me as cool as possible. Do you have any year-round fabric recommendations for me that could work in a hotter climate?
@v_r_
@v_r_ 4 жыл бұрын
What’s up, Benjamin? The fabric is indeed 100% wool. For the Texas climate, I’d say it would probably be a bit too heavy. I’d say 9 oz would be a perfect all year round weight.

Hi Vlad. Great video. Referring to Spier and McKay custom program, do you have some advice on how to measure, what to consider to get the the most of the experience
@v_r_
@v_r_ 4 жыл бұрын
Sure, to get the best experience would be if you already have one of their RTW items and make adjustments from that. If not, their sizing guide is pretty accurate. So if you have a garment from a different maker that fits well, you can measure it and cross reference it with their guide.

Those pants look a little tight in the crouch, man. A 370g fabric should drape pretty well, and those X wrinkles you have at your crouch could either because of the suspender or the thigh being too tight. Try to loosen up the suspender a little to see if it helps.

Great stuff as always. Thanks. And I got it. You´re not a fan of flat front. I can see why. I am about to order a MTM suit these days (char coal by the way), and would say that I am quite a slim guy (194 cm tall; 84 kilos). The dude in the store told me that my body type would not favour pants with pleats; meaning they would seem to baggy on me. When I asked him about a flat front in combination with a higher rise than the more custom hip-ish model they´ve got. he looked at me like I was crazy and said there is no such thing :) Any thoughts and that, Vlad? :)
@v_r_
@v_r_ 10 ай бұрын
You are really tall and slim but I highly disagree that pleats won’t favor your body type. I haven’t found one person who didn’t look better and more classically dressed once they switched to pleated trousers. For example, look at my friend Clément here, he’s 83 cm tall and 70 kilos and he looks great: instagram.com/reel/CxnuhursZDj/?igshid=YjVjNjZkNmFjNg==

Vlad. This brings to mind a couple of questions that I/we amateurs have irt fabric weights/seasonal weights. This one is 13 oz., and you said it's an all year round use. What are the standard fabric weights per season? Obviously lighter weights for summer/heavier for winter, but what ranges of weights are appropriate seasonally? Inquiring minds...?

I have a charcoal suit by bonobos that I kind of hate lol The lapels are too skinny for my frame, and makes my shoulders look like a tank. At 40r I need at least 2.5” for the lapel, that’s why I buy from spier and mackay.

S&M serves an important market and makes really nice suits in styles that, if made in Naples or Florence, cost many times more. I have a S&M suit and, owning some custom suits, noticed that the armholes are rather comparitively low. Other than that, the clothing is very nice. If you notice how Vlad's suits bunch up at the shoulder when he sits, that's from the larger arm-hole. This being said, when you approach $1,000 for a S&M, I think it's worth at least looking at/investing in an Orazio Luciano, Ring Jacket or Gennaro Formosa. Yes, it's 1.5x -2x the price, but you'll immediately feel the difference and you'll get a suit that will look better as it ages, obviating the need to buy more suits.. And the price should be weighed in light of the fact that some people buy 20 S&M suits anyway. Again, I want to emphasize that S&M makes wonderful suits and the Chinese factories that make them are as best as any in the world. But I'd like to see Vlad sort some variety and show people how they can move up a notch if so desired.

What’s up, bro? From my experience, I’d say the Neapolitan jackets have higher armholes compared to other mass market brands. But not as high as niche brands like the ones that you’ve mentioned. Eventually, I’ll get there but right now, I’d rather spend more on my shoes while still staying under the 1k price point with my suits. Not sure for how long but I guess we shall see. I appreciate the comment and thanks for watching.

Great video as always Vlad! If there's one point about suits and jacket that's often overlooked, it's the size of the armholes and how a high armhole would always add to the freedom of movement and comfort of a jacket. Do S&M jackets come with a high armhole? Would love to hear your thoughts on this and hopefully an idea for a future video. Stay safe, A viewer from Tokyo

What’s up, Bruno? Pleats do serve a function as they open up a little when you’re sitting down, as someone with a bit of a stomach, I can use it. But more importantly, it’s just a look thing, just like side-tabs, 2” cuffs, etc. they just look way better to my eyes and couldn’t imagine wearing tailored clothing that didn’t have those features that I came t love since I’ve gotten into Classic Menswear.

Learned a lot from you when I wanted to buy suits here in Japan at this place called Big Vision. Just picked up three 3 piece suits mid gray Loro Piana Australis , navy Loro Piana Zelander, and charcoal gray Zegna Trofeo fabric. They have some insane deals on MTM suits here. 2 Piece Loro Piana and Zegna fabric was on sale for ¥59k + ¥10k for the vest + another ¥10k for lining, button and other customizations. This is a MTM customized 3P suit in designer S150s fabrics for less than $550 each. I also grabbed a Harris Tweed sport coat and Zegna Cashmere chesterfield overcoat in camel. All MTM…sport coat was less than $300 and coat was less than $750. Might pick up some Yearn shoes and grab an Intro tie if/when they come back in stock and if they ship to Japan. Come to Japan and get some suits!

You don't wear t shirt under a suit I wss told. Is that a school boy error or personal.
@darionwinters2542
@darionwinters2542 4 жыл бұрын
It’s perfectly fine to wear a t-shirt under a shirt. It helps for a number of reasons. The trick is to keep it invisible, for example by not showing when you unbutton your top buttons. Also, when you wear a white shirt underneath, it’s a good idea to look out for an undershirt in a colour which matches the colour of your skin a bit more closely. Again, this is so it stays “invisible” underneath your shirt (otherwise it often shows, unfortunately).

Vladimir Riché I believe the gentleman above is referring to wearing a t-shirt underneath a button up shirt (not sure what it’s called - an undershirt?), and the issue of its visibility when you unbutton your top shirt buttons. As it is the case in your video.
