I've never been to the Isle of Man, James - seen it from Cumbria, Scotland and its islands. You certainly seem to be blessed with great skies! I visited the Fanal Forest, Madeira in 2020 - sadly the mist was so thick each day that I couldn't see the famous laurel trees. Really dangerous there as you couldn't see a metre ahead.

I enjoy the way you approach your subjects and also your multitasking ability to shoot stills, narrate and record on video at the same time (when you have your ball head). Thermal inversions are quite common in winter here in the South Okanagan valley of British Columbia, and I seize the opportunity to shoot them whenever I can. I'm so looking forward to capturing them with my new Z 14-30 f/4, which you so highly recommended and which should arrive any day now.

Fantastic images all the way through this video, but the mesmerising scene of mist/fog timelapse at the end blew me away! I can only just grasp how you must have been feeling actuallty standing there! The scene that you filmed with the wider shot of the trees, stone wall and pathway, I thought that was a deserving scene in it's entirety, as well as the smaller scenes which you showed us. Thanks for sharing, have a safe, and rewarding 2022 , looking forward to seeing more from you.

Last Saturday was amazing. Coast to coast across Central Scotland. Like you, up to high ground for dawn, missed the first shot I went for by ten minutes or so as I'm not as fast as I used to be uphill but made up for by the islands of mountaintops in the mist under a clear blue sky; home for lunch and then back out for misty trees and waterfalls in the afternoon. Great sunset shots; kind of wish I'd chosen to do a sunset above the mist as well but you can't be everywhere at once.

If you don't have a threaded hole for a anti loosen screw in the top piece that your tripod head mounts to, you should put a drop of removable loctite on the threads for your new tripod head. Nice conditions. On my screen, once you get past the clouds around the mountains, it just looks like a frozen tundra.

Thanks James for sharing these astonishing pictures. Even before you lost the ball head, I feel sorry for that, I wondered where you left the geared head? It was your enthousiasm that did me buy one and I still love it. So why use a B2 instead? I'm looking forward to your adventures in 2022. Have a great and healthy year.
@JamesBrewphoto3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. The geared head is still my main tripod head. However when I want to travel lighter I do use a smaller secondary tripod with the Benro G2 attached. The geared tripod head is way better though, so don't worry you'll be seeing plenty more of it. All the best for 2022

Topside post and images, James.👍 Part of “special” is “sometimes” - did you weather plan the inversion? How long did it last and how often do they occur there? Pano w/sunset a super image - would have been even better w/off-center sun, IMO. Didn’t get the reference to radio interference at summit (prob w/your gear?). Looks like you lost weight. Is rail line in vid still active - wouldn’t want your gear to be run over by a train😀. Common James, how does one “lose” a valued and often used tripod head - perhaps it is still back home. Expected to see Misty in the mist😁. Have a great New Year, James! Cheers!🎉
@JamesBrewphoto3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul. The inversion lasted 2 days. I completely missed the first day as I just assumed it was a typical grey day, it was only when I checked online that I saw the high ground provided views out over the mist. Therefore I set out the next morning with the hope the conditions would be the same, luckily they were! We get misty conditions like that maybe 4 or 5 days a year but this particular showing was one of the best I've ever seen. There are radio transmission towers at the top of the mountain. My camera picks up the radio in my recordings, If you listen back you'll hear it in some of the b-roll. Tripod head is gone forever unfortunately, looks like it fell off without my realising at some point on the mountain - annoying but just one of those things. All the best for 2022! 🙂
@jamesoliver66253 жыл бұрын
Not much to say James other than It would be possibly worth retracing your hike to search for your ballhead. Those images are what it takes to relieve the burnout. The misty tree is Simon Baker-esque. The panos are both portfolio shots. Full stop. You made my day. Thank you.
@JamesBrewphoto3 жыл бұрын
Thank you James! Glad you liked the video. Sadly the tripod head is gone forever - couldn't find it. Will have to get a replacement at some point, it's not my main head thankfully. All the best for 2022!

Love the vlog, as always, but the pedant in me (I can't help myself) has to say that there's no such thing as a cloud inversion. It's a temperature inversion. I know, I should seek professional help :-)
