I personally like fractional quarters and I don't care about the premium as this is for the long term. I have a lot of sliver but no plans on further purchases, takes up way too much space! Great video as always!

I bought a couple of quarter Oz. once just to "try it out", but I didn't like it. Once you're used to the weight and size of a full 1Oz. you don't like to go smaller... At least not for me. Furthermore here in Europe when I asked the shops what would be the amount they pay if / when I need to sell, they told me "spot". No matter which coin, no matter which size, they pay just spot price. So there's no point really as the premium on smaller coins is way higher.... If I can't afford a full Oz. I just don't buy anything.

Good vid! I think in the long run sticking to one type of fractional will work well, especially if you’re plan is to hand it down. Your kin only has to research one type of coin vs the 20+ different kinds you might have left them. Your tube of coins idea helps that. Also if gold does have some solid gains in the short term, fractional might be more palatable to the average buyer till the cost levels out……. Now I just need to stop making dumb purchases so I can actually buy gold this year 😬

1 oz is all I will buy in gold simply because the standard shop sells 1/4's and 1/2's at far too high premium. 1 oz is the best deal even if you can only buy 1 oz a year or something. I try to buy an oz quarterly or if I have anything extra that I'm not putting into silver.
@kian925 Жыл бұрын
Agree with your stance. Everyone has to decide what works for them and what costs they are willing to accept. For me the cost of fractional upsets my frugal side. Emotionally I like fractional and want 1/4oz coins but until premiums come down I won’t do it. That extra money, even though it can be recovered, is better to put toward more gold or use to get silver.

I like how you approached this. So many stackers seem to shame people for buying anything less than 1oz at a time, but as you pointed out, it can be a lot of money to have to find all at once, especially right now. Maybe another thing to consider is, my online dealer has an unallocated/pooled program where you can buy at spot now, and then later convert to physical only having to pay the premium at that time. Buying smaller fractions that way, and only converting when you have an ounce could be the best of both worlds.
@tslee8236 Жыл бұрын
Unallocated program is the way to save for that bigger coin or bar. You may even use it to diversify into silver and platinum for the short and medium term without paying the high premiums. The dealer is your counter party risk.

Why would you trade 4 x1/4 coins for 1x1 oz coin even up? You already paid the premium. At worst those 1/4’s were the same value as the 1oz but you lost any opportunity to regain fractional premium or flexibility to trade in smaller amounts?
@darrensoldan5972 Жыл бұрын
I think the biggest thing is to just set a simple goal at the start and don't worry about those premiums for now

I am focusing on 1oz gold going forward, but when I have been able to pick up 1/10th oz AGE’s at lower premiums than 1/4 oz’s, I have happily bought them. But that source had been mostly tapped out. I also keep an eye out for deals on fractional bars with low premiums and pick up when I find a good deal, but they are pretty few and far between. So agree with the 1 oz target, but happy when good deals on smaller sizes come up. Also I have been surprised to find certified/slabbed 1 oz AGE’s and Buffalos at almost the same price as raw coins. I buy these as well as they may provide broader audiences of potential buyers in the future for minimal additional upfront cost. Keep up the great videos.

Changed the strategy a bit with current premiums being what they are. 1/2 oz AGEs were a constant but that has been temporarily nixed in favor of 1oz Buffaloes and Gold Great Britain Sovereigns for fractional. Premiums matter to me and math is an inconvenient truth but it must be respected if you want to get the most for devaluating fiat. That is why silver premiums don’t make mathematical sense. Also worth mentioning when your fiat money is rapidly being devalued and metals are at an artificially low and affordable price, premiums are largely irrelevant. Also with just a hair of patience silver can regularly be had these days at $2 over spot or a 7-8% premium

I started buying gold in only the 1-oz. size but after a few years I realized that I needed more flexibility in how I could liquidate these coins at opportune times. Because of that, I added some 1/2 oz. and 1/4 oz. coins to the stack. I don't buy the 1/10 oz. coins because the 1 oz. 1/2 oz. and 1/4 oz. coins provide the flexibility I want. If I need to sell some metal that is lower in price than 1/4 oz. gold coins, I have silver than can be sold in amounts equivalent to a 1/10 oz. gold coin. At the present time, my gold stack is around 70% in 1-oz. coins, 15% in 1/2 oz. coins, and 15% in 1/4 oz. coins. These percentages are in the number of coins and not in terms of their cost. I'm done buying silver unless something attractive comes my way at a good price. This doesn't happen often but when it does, I will buy. But I am still buying gold on a semi-regular basis. I've been waiting for a decent price pull-back in 2023 but no joy so far. I'd like to see gold prices drop to $1800-$1850 but they have not gotten there yet. I am hopeful that they will sometime in mid-July through August. If they do, and the premiums do not rise to cancel out the savings from the lower price, then I will buy several ozs., most of which will be in the 1-oz. size. If not, then I will buy some 1/4 oz. Britannias or Maples, just to keep a hand in the game and add a little to the stack, even if the prices are not that great.

Really get and respect the 1 ozt premiums. Usually purchased and stockpiled 10 ozt silver. Then looked at the 1/10th ozt gold bits and saw that, with good deals, it matched or was under the silver bar premiums (RCM bars). Thus, set on searching and getting the fractional. Might flip between the Ag bars and Au fractionals over time just to balance it iut

Another thought.... because most people are not disciplined savers, they rarely have anything left over every two weeks when they get paid. Or if they get a raise, instead of saving that, they increase their spending proportionally to the raise. So, even if you buy 1/10 oz gold eagles, or some silver junk or eagles (all three of which have exorbitant premiums), you at least have “something” to show for that raise you recently got. And it is “forced” savings because only the most dire of needs will force you to sell and lose that exorbitant premium.

What about the 5 G bar of gold... Let me explain.. I sat here for about a week or two looking at the different prices and trying to see what type of gold I wanted to buy... as for the last 10 years I've only bought silver, that's a long story in itself but it boils down to it was frowned upon by the indigenous people that I'm associated with..... Anyways, I was looking at the 1/10 sizes.. whatever was the cheapest @ today's prices was about 250 a coin... then I realized for an extra hundred dollars making it $350 I could get the 5-gram bars which is 2 G more then the 1/10 coins... Plus instead of waiting 10 months of DCAing I would have my 1st oz in 6 MO.... well I would have to buy an extra G or whatever to make it a troy ounce.. But my question is, is it actually worth it to buy the fractional bars... and do you know how people are like 5 - 7 dollars over spot for silver is the most anybody should pay in premiums for silver..... is there something in the world of gold that is like that... like if I'm about to go buy something and somebody like that's crazy if you buy this amount for that price... thought it would ask😂..... anyways just throwing some ideas out there trying to figure out what works for me and thought it wouldn't hurt to try and ask you

I have to admit for me personally i get MORE motivated when the price goes down to buy more. For me knowing the inevitable feature of fiat known as inflation means that i want to get more while i can because i know the inexorable march in one direction of the US Dollar. That doesn't mean it can't be stuck low for a long period of time but it does mean that eventually the inertia of reality will move it up regardless of the day to day, week to week and month to month, even the year to year. It's just an eventual reality of how inflation and fiat works.

The 0% spread deal at Alpine Gold has me intrigued. Through a UPMA account, you can purchase a few Goldbacks at a time until you have enough to trade for a 1oz eagle or buffalo without losing any premium. On top of that they have that lease program where you earn interest in Goldbacks as well, but you have to vault them with Alpin Gold, though it’s free. However, I’m a firm believer of “If you don’t hold it, you don’t own it”. You think this might be worth looking into further?

i have had many conversations about fractional Gold. and personally, i would rather have plan for any situation that comes my way rather than making something work when it was designed for something else and in this case fractionals would work. while the 1oz coins could be for bigger things, the fractional can have the smaller issues covered. also sovereigns are a pretty good deal with premiums and to have a little bit of history is nice, can you imagine being in 1913 and having a nice chunk of change like that?

My budget really only allows me to stack 1/10 britannias (1 a month).. is this a terrible strategy if holding long term?
@jimmechanikong6924 Жыл бұрын
At least Brittanias have a much lower premium than Eagles.

Aside from a few numismatic pieces, I'm only really interested in 1 Oz Gold and above. Same for silver.

Here in Canada the lowest is $820 for 1/4oz Gold random year maple leaf CDN - the conversion on $571 usd is $774 It’s better for us to drive to the USA buy there and bring it back

You can blow $225 on a dinner with your family or buy a 1/10 gold coin instead. Most people are going to spend it is my point.

@@DrSchor blowing $225 on dinner is. We prefer to eat in a cook together while spending 1/5 the price dr.

We hear talk about The Gov Confiscating our gold... If that happened what would be your plan?? how much gold would u have to have before u think about moving to Canada???

I started stacking last year. I don’t personally like the American Eagle other than the design. The reason is because it is not pure gold. I would like to get a Buffalo coin, but bars and maples are just more economical.

I really try to pick up something monthly. When I can afford it, 1 oz is a great goal. But the next month, it might be a fractional. And try to remember, in the words of Bill and Ted, “Be excellent to each other.”

Only thing with a full OZ is most cant afford the $2K price tag. Both when selling and buying. A few hundred dollars is much more manageable and will make the sale and purchase easier.

When i started. If i waited to "save" enough for an ounce i would not have done it. But, of course like all finances we should watch every one and make calculated purchases to maximize the profitability. Or just collect it and be happy.

1oz Britannia whenever possible, but also want to start building up on Gold Sovereigns and Krugerrands for a little diversity as well as decent premiums 😁

I did what 2 is 1 did when he first started: some silver, fractional foreign like roosters and sovereigns, then graduated to cute stuff like maplegrams and finally now Eagles and Buffalo. It IS a pricey learning lesson.

AGEs and Buffalos for the win! I picked up 3-1/4 Maples a year ago and am deciding if I want to complete the set (every time I go to the LCS I can’t convince myself to get the 4th maple) or trade for another Buffalo!

My girlfriend says it isn't about the size, so long as it fits snug inside the capsule 👍
