I'm with you on purchasing fractional gold. My lcs only charges $10 over melt on them which tells me he doesn't pay much for them. I will definitely not sell to him unless I am in the clear but at the same time I just enjoy being able to sell fractional easier than a one ounce. Thanks for your insights!

I agree living in the states the American gold eagle is the easiest going to liquidate, but I’ve also found that the Mexican libertad and Peso’s hold their value and they are more scarce which helps their value.

Enjoying your videos, thanks for sharing. Here in the UK Sovereigns are liquid and my local coin shop it's his favourite coin to deal with. I have some but my only turn off is the copper content with it being 917 gold as opposed to the 9999 coins like the fractional Britannias. The fractional coins could be more favourable in the future (if/when) gold prices rise .

Another UK resident here and I share the same thoughts. You can sell Sovereign coins literally anywhere, even the cash converters will take them (I know someone who works in one) but I can't come to term with the colour of them. The allure of gold is it's shine and lustre and as a made to handle coin they lack that. I always buy Brittanias but the Canadian maple leaf is looking appealing, mainly because I can stash a few on me for the next time I visit the US as an emergency monetary fund incase I need it. Im not sure how easy it would be to liquidate 1oz Brittanias in the US.

@@bigbill74scots I agree with the beautiful yellowy colour does it for me! Seen a fair few Brits popping up on stackers videos over there. I guess any bullion dealer here will take Eagles or Buffalos but just be treated like a bullion coin though it depends on the dealers I suppose. Cash converters ever actually sell any of their sovs at the prices they are advertising? I've not been in one to ask

@@SovereignSaurus Incredibly, they actually do. The lady I know who works in one says sovereigns are one of their hot items that move easily. My only thought is that those paying the premium on them maybe dont have access to bank accounts to allow them to purchase via more mainstream ways.

Well, I just started getting into gold. Before I only had silver and not very much of it. But all my loans are paid off now, so gold is an option where it really wasn't before. 2020 Sovereigns and Swiss 20 francs are what I have been getting. After I get a few of each I'll be building up toward 1 oz (probably a Buffalo or Eagle), then back to world gold. I'd be happy to hear any suggestions. Also that Chris Reeves Sebenza!!!

I bought my first Buffalo a couple weeks ago and I’m about 99% certain I’m done with silver. My problem is I do want to buy monthly but the premiums are too high for fractional gold coins(even though they are still less than typical silver premiums). Those 5 gram bars in the assay cards appeal to me. Easy monthly purchase and it would be fun to fill one of those 25 card bins. Plus low premiums. Would you suggest the 5 gram or should I just bite the bullet and buy the quarters in coins? I’d like to buy 1 5 grams assay card every month for 4 months then in the 5th grab a ounce coin.
@2is1gold

1/2's are my favorite size; but I mostly stack 1/4's and 1/2's, and avoid 1/10's. I know they all carry more premiums than a 1 ozt coin, but premiums on 1/10's are ridiculous. I eventually want to get a 1 ozt coin, but I buy the 1/4's and 1/2's because I don't want to save for months for a full 1 ozt and then not be able to afford it with the spot prices being unpredictable.
@SovereignCajun78
@SovereignCajun78 Жыл бұрын
Something that bothers me about the fractionals is kind of minor though. I know the denominations mean nothing, but why is a 1 ozt denominated at $50, a 1/2 at $25, and a 1/10 at $5, these make sense but a 1/4 is $10? Shouldn't it be a 1/5? If it doesn't mean anything, why not just make a 1 ozt denominated $100.

I don’t mind them but I guess it’s the least sold size. Great vids awesome gold chat my fav metal by far. Oh you know you can buy 20 mm air tites fits those maples sweet. Also aren’t the maples a little cheaper for you down there ? My thing is I want 24 k doesn’t matter which country really. I have found you can trade 24 k anywhere but not so much with the other purities. I had a similar issue with the sovereign European gold. Harder to unload.

Maple leaf metals we do get Maples a little cheaper here, and they’re a popular option. There’s a specific but widely misunderstood tax ‘benefit’ to buying American Eagles that adds to their popularity. (Despite their purity.) As for 1/2oz, I’ve never considered buying them until recently. But, I definitely see them increasing in popularity as prices increase. Thanks for the comment!

I don’t trade up any of my fractionals. My fractional eagles are the coins I will hold on to the longest. I actually trade “down” when really good opportunities are available. If your LCS gives you the premium back on the fractionals when you trade up, that’s remarkable. That does not happen at any of my LCS’s.

They only give me _some_ of the premium back. (Like $10 of the $40 paid.) But in an even trade for a 1oz coin, I'm willing to give up the premium now and then to make it easier to stack consistently (1oz is my preference).

Bobby Van Gilder Good question. I'm planning a video on this soon. I use Air-Tites. It's pretty common to find them at a local coin shop, but I've picked up a bunch from both Amazon and APMEX. APMEX will tell you the exact size you need on the product's detail page - 1/4oz Gold Eagles are 32mm. You can get direct fit capsules or capsules with black rings. If you search Amazon, you'll find both the individual capsules and the storage container tubes (with the red lid). I personally use the Air-Tites with the black rings (because the outer diameter of the plastic will then line up with various coin diameters, from Silver Eagles to Canadian Maples), but the direct fit let you see more of the coins. Thanks!
